  • Castlevania 3 Boss 18 Dracula - No Damage, No SubWeapons. Played by ArekTheAbsolute. To everyone who came here after watching AVGN's review...
The fire pillars on first form are NOT undodgeable. The farther you are from Dracula, the more space will fire pillars give to dodge. Now please stop posting stupid comments assuming that this is an easier/top secret/otherwise different version of the game.

Still the hardest Castlevania for me. It's so random at so many points in the game, I can't quite handle it like I handle Castlevania 1 or Dracula X (both SNES and Rondo, although Rondo is pretty easy anyways). I've been following for a long while now, can't believe its been about 7 years now.

    • @laraa739

niespeludo I think that thexworst part is enemies appearing two locks into the screen instead of from the border sosometimes they appearvso fast that you have to remember they spwan there and start attacking before so you hit them thanks to the delay. My version also lagged a lot with more than three enemies ir secondary items on screen. It was way worse then the first game with enemy placement. I like it but a lot of levels are just cruel. Especially with the checkpoints

16 axes to beat Dracula's final form, and you have to jump and land each of them, without getting hit by lasers or falling in the pit in the center. Always save those sixteen axes for the demon form at the end. The hardest part of this is just staying on the ground, with that stupid floating ledge moving about catching your jumps, while you dodge the laser beam patterns and lob axes.
But yes, this boss is ridiculously Dark Souls, the first few times you fight it. You even have to fight your way back to it, and scale a couple pendulums with bats over a bottomless pit, every time you fuck it up. And if you let the first form get too close to you, it will always trap you in an undodgable trio of flame pillars.
Doing it with just the whip is a fucking nightmare. And then... the second run on hard mode with skulls instead of medusa heads just gets purely ridiculous.

FUN FACT: Almost every Konami console game from the 8bit and 16bit era was harder in their western ports. Castlevania 1 had an easy mode option in Japan. The Contra sequels tended to have superior cheat codes, unlimited continues, or in one case a life bar that was removed from the western ports. Their famous beat-em-ups were usually toned down in Japan. Bayou Billy was so insanely tougher in its western release its practically a different game.

I remember getting this game for christmas as a kid... It was one of my favorite games ever, but it was sooo difficult. I could never beat Dracula :( Still can't lol

Use the holy water trick. Start throwing holy water before he comes down, it will stun him and do damage as long as you keep throwing it. It might be the "cheap" way to do it but it was even recommended in manual for the next CV game. And it's better than never seeing the rest of such a great game.

not too difficult, but AVGN sure scared a lot of people away from wanting to play this complaining it was too hard, lol. also simon's quest deserves a nod, it too was one of the more fun CVs. memorable soundtrack as well.

You lie in your description! It clearly stats, No Damage but Dracula takes plenty of damage!

That happens for the reason Arek stated. If you stand too close to Dracula, the pillars will be closer together. You can see that on both the Grant and Sypha videos from this channel, as well as how he avoids it with Grant.

The close flames happen when you are close to Dracula when he does the attack. Easy enough to prevent most of the time, but there is no indication that this is the case, and you have to be close to Dracula to attack him. Remember, on top of being comical and not always trying to be good, AVGN plays most his games from the perspective that there is no internet and no way to look this up as if it were the 80s/early 90s.

Hmm, i wonder at the beginning, when AVGN reviewed this, the 2 flames that trap you were way more close together so there was no way to avoid the third flame. I mean, i never played the game, but did he something wrong or is this just a little bit easier version of dracula?

@Tuby1395 That shouldn't change the actual gameplay... Unless there is also a PC version, but I've never heard of that?

In the first clip there should be enough room for the middle fire geyser and Belmont to say separate within the fire wall had the nerd just moved tactically. That's at 11:00. But the following 2 clips there aren't any room for both Belmont and the middle fire geyser to stay separate. He literally can't stand anywhere within the firewall without getting hit.
I only played the first game so is that something that sometimes happens and the nerd was just being unfortunate?

is this a different version of Castlvania 3? Because I watch a review of the game complaining about the final boss having undodgible attacks. And it showed a video of him getting cornered in the two pillars of fire ( during the boss' first form) with no room to doge the attack.
But in this video, the pillars of fire that come from the floor are spaced farther apart. So I'm just curious if they had to come out with an easier version of the game.

Definitely the most difficult games of all the original Castlevania NES games. Unlike CV1, the bosses are quite weak, you can deal a lot of damage on them with any character, and kill them somewhat quickly, but the levels, goddamn... Enemies are so powerful, the beginning is okay but at the end, enemies tear you 4 health bars each time they hit you. You can die in only 4 hits, that's fucking insane especially in the parts with flying shielded skeletons and fireball-shooting skulls... arrrrgh, the castle climbing level (where you fight the doppelganger) was so unfair. Great game, not my favorite but still a classic.

True. The game is hard, but damn if it isn't fun.
They made the US version more difficult here than the Japanese. His third form beams are longer and wider than the Japanese version.
