@@sassi9262 hmm yeah idk why she didnt do FB Marketplace. maybe this organization is able to reach people who dont have access to FB (i.e. people who dont have internet)?? idk im not familiar with the org but thats my guess. FB marketplace or local gifting groups on FB are definitely great options tho!
I work for a social service organization that completes Furniture Bank referrals for clients and want to say how happy I am that you went that route for the couch! The Furniture Bank helps furnish the homes of newcomers to Canada, people transitioning from shelters to housing, people fleeing abusive domestic situations, those whose furniture was destroyed by bed bugs... the list goes on and on. Its been a really high need for so many individuals, especially during COVID-19. Thanks for promoting it and the space looks great!!

Sewing your own covers is super easy. Use placemats, old skirts, rugs, throws, etc. from thrift stores.
I think this is your best makeover to date! You should definitely try to do more "masculine" designs in the future outside of your comfort zone because this looks amazing!

I fully agree! I find Alexandra's usual style very cute, but I don't identify much with it, to be honest... But this living room is absolutely dreamy! Would love love love to see more on this type of type of style. Not just dark and moody, but also bright and moody if that makes any sense? (I completely agree that calling it "masculine" is BS, but I am not sure how to name a bright yet "masculine" decor style. Any ideas? hahaha)
What I love about this makeover is that you didn't really change that many things and yet the vibe is completely different
FYI: In the states, habitat for humanity is a free service that will pick up furniture and donate to families in need.
They do that in Canada too! Porch pickup rn cause of COVID but its free
They resell it here!
They dont come to everyones home.you can drop off but they do not pick up in my state. Noe of yhe donation center will pick up
They usually sell the furniture also and build homes for families in need

Yeah. What's with the pompom obsession? And the coffee table and pendant light are "cheapie" looking and so not right for the space and the industrial vibe. Sorry. Best thing was the solution for the bike.
Love the room so much! But there's a glaring white paint line left over on the brick next to the blue wall. It just pops out now! You could get several small craft size colors of acrylic paint (brown red orange black white etc) so you can mix them and match the brick exactly.
This makeover was refreshing, finally no pink or pom-poms! You should do more masculine /moody rooms.

As someone who just got a new apartment after experiencing a year of homelessness donating your furniture really touched me. Because I'm one of those people who got their place furnished by a place like the furniture bank and it meant the world to me
Love the blue, and you guys are super cute, but is anyone else really bothered by the old white paint on the brick wall at the edges?! 🤯 Previous painters haven't been as careful as Alexandra with her tape!

Ya, (grin) that would drive me over the edge! hahahahhahahahaha However what drove me even crazier was that she painted "around" the outlet plates instead of removing them and then painting. Shame shame shame on her. Don't do a job half way.
Me too, also the baseboard! but I figured maybe is for rental reasons, if they have to paint it back to white? Dk
@@earthbybike I paint all the time but I never remove the outlets.. I just paint around them very neatly 😅
When we faced that challenge, the easiest way to deal with sloppy folks getting paint on the edges of the brick is a sanding block. Sand off the paint before you repaint 🤷

for some reason I always thought you lived with your partner but that he didn't care about how the space looks so you can pull through your own style.
I really really liked the part where you sat down with Noah at the beginning to talk about what he likes, what works for him ect, I think it's so important to really get what the other person's style and personality is. Otherwise a space might be pretty to look at but it's not made for the person who lives there.
I really really enjoy watching more of the behind the scenes, I think you totally could show that more often, maybe even some vlog scenes from the office...
I love the way you made it all look cohesive and beautiful and matching while mixing the styles a little bit. The final space you came up with is so so beautiful
She lived with a different partner and they broke up its why she’s down to one cat. And then got a new BF during the pandemic.

The rug, table tray, and hanging light are all too "boho-ish". I personally love the rug but I love boho-ish 🤣.
Missed opportunities to add more of his style easily. Also the white planter with the snake plant, she should have slapped some blue and black color blocking or striping on it
My living room is dark and moody with a lot of original Victorian and pre world war furniture mixed with some cozy, newer pieces. We use the newer cozy furniture in our commonly used sitting area. We kinda broke up our large living space into two seating areas. Keeping it all in the dark and moody colors. We only use the Victorian sofas area when guest are over. Otherwise, we keep those sofas covered. They both have original, velvet fabric in really great condition. We have cats and dogs and don’t wanna have to replace the original material. When you walk around the corner you step into our mid century kitchen and dinning room area. It’s a very retro Barbie style moment. It’s such a change from the dark and moody space but I love the immediate switch you feel when you walk around the corner. The kitchen is baby pink and that vintage blue green, chrome and black & white checkered tile. The back of the house where the bedrooms are we did in dark and moody boho style with some vintage accent pieces ofc. One of our favorite pieces hanged above the kitchen entrance. It’s an old Schwinn bike we picked up for like 15.00 at a thrift store. It has a basket that we put my old E.T. In with a blanket over him like in the movie.
Painting tip - go in a "w" and "m" pattern when rolling the paint on the wall. Prevents obv lines on the wall. ♡
It depends on the paint you use. If it is a fast drying paint like Benjamin Moore's Aura paint then making the w or m doesn't work. It's already drying before you go back over it and could cause lot's of problems. (Like the paint lifting off as you go over it.) So doing it as she did works in that case. I work in a paint department at a hardware store and that info was part of my training.

So I know that is an Ikea Kivik couch/loveseat! For anyone who has one but doesn't totally love how close to the ground it is, ikea sells covers for this and you can buy really sturdy legs off Amazon, it has COMPLETELY transformed the look of this loveseat and I love how it looks now
He has the masculine version of your apartment, layout, brick wall and everything! Loved this!
Another tool that will make your painting experience better is an 18 in roller frame and pan. It makes painting go faster and gives a better finish
the space looks like a great space to do a photoshoot. As someone said in another comment it is a moody space rather than masculine.

I love dark and moody with pops of colors and eclectic pieces scattered about. I’m a bit of a maximalist when it comes to antique, eclectic, fun finds.
I tend to gravitate towards light and airy but WOW! Everything goes so perfectly together. You’re so good!

I feel like a birdcage pendant without the birds would have been cool! Just a circle of wire. And a cool vintage-style bulb, or one that could change ambiance :)
A basket for the excess pillows and blankets could cozy it up, and also maybe hide some of the cords behind the couch? Which should def get new metal legs :) also, that picture in a metal frame would be so cool! Or, just spraypaint it silver? Anyway, I would have turned the living room the other way so the couch would create a division of the room and put the beautiful TV furniture stand up against the brick wall! To let more light in and use the window as an accent and put more pointy plants and cacti in metal pots :) and maybe not on the bookshelf, since it's clearly a space where plants are forgotten! Also, I think I would get rid of the round pillows on the couch since those are too cute and cozy for the space! Also I would hang more pieces like the pipe-hanger. It looks a bit out of place since it's just the one?

I loved everything about it except for the coffee table. I felt like that was a great opportunity to add a little more industrial vibe. At the same time, I loved absolutely everything else about it and that bike holder was InSpired! Also, the overhead light was a great solution.

It was the one thing that bugged me about every single mood board and she kept it EVERY time. Heh. Huge improvement over the ottoman, though, and a great makeover.

Alexandra I give you props for doing over a significant others place, it can be difficult to do, and you did it so well. He had alot of good things to start with and you just blended it ,mid-century modern industrial design and it works. I think you should expand your design esthetic to include things like this you pulled it off,terrific job especially as it's out of your comfort zone. Do more of these,stretch your design esthetic muscles.
Very good idea with hanging the bike out of the way.
Overall a very good job, you come up with budget conscious solutions.
Two things that would bother me, the ceiling light is too weak and I prefer a rectangular coffee table with rounded corners or an oval table, however
I always like your decorative ideas.

Great rug! It looked lighter on the mood board but it’s richer in tone and goes with the wall and the brick so nicely.

Love it!!!! A mix of everything he asked for. Some industrial but with a cozy feeling. Lamps, bike rack, brick was industrial. Sofa, coffee table more modern. Rug, traditional, pillows boho. Everything blended well and also added a masculinity yet comfy vibe.

Looks great! What I would have done differently is the coffeetable. I would have put in one with a bit more height, and maybe an oval shape.
And maybe some metal
I feel like he asked for industrial style (metals legs, etc.), and what he got was a masculine version of your style. A cozy industrial coffee table would have been something with a metal frame but a wood top maybe. That said, I like how the room came out, but the only industrial elements were the two lamps he already had.

He did say mix between vintage/ cozy & industrial but I didn't get too much industrial feel besides the bike rack lol. I feel like she could've brought industrial elements with a different pendant light and coffee table. The design looks nice over all, minus the spray painted basket pendant light. That just looks cheap imo

Blackcat, she chose the industrial hanger for the bike and hanging it like that added to the industrial look which was supposed to be a mix. I think she nailed it!
In Spain that plant is called "amor de hombre" (man's love) and If It has enough sun it's purple!

I take back my previous comment, the plant is Moses in the cradle and will bloom and is a ground cover so give it a large pot and it should fill it beautifully when it flowers. I have two large ones
Omg- just used these colors to add accents to my home office- wish I had found that rug! Love the one I got (same color palette and also distressed), but that was more the style I was looking for! I also did navy velvet on my daybed pillow- probably the closest I'll get to a Gater original!

Good idea for the couch! Maybe you can you do some styling for some of those people who are financially distressed or had been recently displaced that you gave the couch to.

That wall is perfect with the sofa and rug! Hey if you’d like to get a fluffier look for the pillows, buy covers that are two inches smaller than the pillow insert.
I loved the "do not kiss in the camara" was so professional and some how polite, in this times where people do every kind of thing to get attention I love that you keep your pro attitude even with your boyfriend. You both look great together and the apartment went really well.
