HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 6 июл 2024
- The Nubia REDMAGIC 7 was just announced, and I had a chance to thoroughly test this exciting new phone. With an active fan, AMOLED display, shoulder triggers, and the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, let's see how it handles Android gaming and game emulation.

Being a past RedMagic owner: be warned. Customer support and updates are poor. The cost might be lower but you get no warranty either. Since the device has an OPEN exhaust port that means you accept responsibility for any damage, i.e. water damage. The earlier devices tested showed water damage when exposed to high humidity environments - like in your pocket when it's raining, in the bathroom during a hot shower, etc... You get a 14 day warranty for manufacturer defects, but after that you're on your own. It's a gaming phone, not a daily driver.
Yeah, ill just get a poco and blackshark cooler.
I owned one too. I found that android was horrie on it. I.e the sms and contact feature worked horribly. It couldn't sink with my contacts. I found it was only good as a game phone period.
Such warranty standards are unacceptable. I don't even think it's legal in a lot of countries to have a warranty that short
@@TPSautobot They ignored or skimmed over every other aspect in favor of gaming. Anyone who buys this will unfortunately realize that it sucks as a phone
So that warranty thing is illegal in places like Australia. I know they sell RedMagic phones in places like JB-HI-FI too.
I have the x2 controller too but for some reason, the buttons don't seem to map properly on Dolphin. Using an Samsung S20 - any pointers?
Bluetooth or usb c?. Either way I have no issues. Go into input settings, emulated and start binding every key.
Dolphin doesn't auto bind any controllers
@@Drivenby USB C. It seems like the UP is mapped to left and down is mapped to right ?

I really laughed when you said "it just says the phone has covid" and I thank you because it's hard to laugh about all this, but you made me smile on top of already loving your reviews !
Nice mini-golf, hope it was fun !
I busted out laughing when he said that
We had a great time, thanks!
Request: Full guide for Android phone gaming & emulation.
Great video as usual!
no micro sd was a deal breaker for me, would've bought this asap if it had it
So far most new phones have no sd card compartment anymore
I agree. The only phone that has it and is powerful is the Xperia 1 III, but it's expensive and the battery sucks.
Yep. It seems like "Cheeto" Steve struck again with this decision to not include a microsd card slot.
@@samnite3 Is idiotic consumers not caring that do this. They still all run and buy the new phones with no Sd instead of choosing a model with an SD card so they can send a message.
If you don't talk with your money and choices manufacturers will do whatever they like.
Reviewers are also pissheads with their casual "Well no Sd card unfortunately, moving on".
If the phone had no camera they will be whining about it threw the whole video but no Sd is just a split second mention.
Absolutely. No micro SD equals no purchase from me on any phone. Expandable media storage is a necessity not an afterthought.
I’ve been waiting for this one
Your channel is 🔥
Will we be seeing an arrival for an improved version? Just like the 6s?
Have you tried It with the dock from Odín? Does the gamecube ports work with this phone?
Been subscribed to your channel since the beginning and it’s been really cool seeing your progression in editing these videos. The song at the intro slaps and the fading out from intro to tech & specs was incredibly pleasant. Keep up the great work 👍
why are your videos so entertaining and good my man 🔥 i'm never gonna buy this product and many products on your channel.. but I still watch all your videos
Very thankful for this video. I was resesrching a lot on the Red Magic 7 and couldn't find in depth review on games, especially on retro emulation. This video has given me great insight to whether or not purchase this product or not. Thank you Russ!
The fact that gaming phones are a thing and how semi decent games are starting to get on phones ect is really impressive. Can't wait to see what will be possible in the next few years, especially with emulation.
There’s actually quite a few really good games on mobile, not just semi decent ones. Just skip the f2p model and stick to premium games.
@@Splackavellie85 What would you recommend? The only premium games I know are Grid Autosport and Rocket League Sideswipe.
@@RGGeek Depends on what you like. I’ve had a lot of fun playing Dead Cells and Alien Isolation. I mainly play platformers and third person action games.
Oddmar is pretty much a Rayman Legends clone with great visuals and a nice art style. And Suzy Cube is a Mario 64 clone.
There’s Sponge Bob Battle for Bikini Bottom, which is haven’t played that much yet.
Pascal’s Wager is a premium game that looks and plays like Dark Souls.
The three Oddworld games (New ‘N Tasty, Stranger’s Wrath and Munich’s Odyssee) are all great ports. So are the GTA games (LCS, SA, VC, GTA III and Chinatown Wars), and Bully Anniversary edition is my favorite of the Rockstar ports.
Thronebreaker The Witcher Tales has a great story and is a really polished game, but not really my cup of tea.
Levelhead is pretty much Super Mario Maker on mobile. Great platformer that works perfectly with a controller and that offers an endless supply of community made levels.
Then you’ve got Dandara, which is similar to Dead Cells. There’s Grimvalor, which plays like a 2D DMC/God of War. Or puzzle platformers like Max and the Curse of the Brotherhood, Teslagrad, Dragon’s Trap and Candleman (which makes really great use of light based visuals).
Transistor and Bastion are gorgeous games by the same studio that made Hades.
Space Marshals 1 & 2, Time Recoil, Tesla vs. Lovecraft, JYDGE and Neon Chrome are all awesome twin stick shooters.
Ofcourse, you have the HD ports of the Professor Layton series if you’re into relaxing point&click puzzle games, all of which play better than they did on the NDS.
And lastly The Talos Principle is an absolute favorite of mine. It’s a third person puzzle game that is very similar to Portal, but with completely different mechanics, great graphics, clever puzzles and a really intriguing story. It’s probably my go to game to show that the mobile platform can cater to actual premium gaming.
That’s 30+ games to check out. Surely, there must be something in there that you like.
@@Splackavellie85 Wow, I think this is my favorite RUclips comment ever! I added a bunch of these to my wishlist and downloaded Oddmar already. Would it be ok if I reposted this to r/OdinHandheld, so our community can discuss and give these games the exposure they deserve?
@@RGGeek Sure, go ahead. The more people realize how good mobile gaming can be, the more incentive there is for developers to bring good games to the platform!
Hey, thanks to you now i have the rg351mp, but i have a question. How can i add psx games??? WHat is the format?? How can i turn the rom into that format????
I have Emuelec
But does it support pass through charging with the controller?
Can you use it's built in key mapper with gamesir x2?
Thanks for the review :)
I'd love to see this chipset in a set top box for a lower cost. Maybe in a year or two?
I almost always rewatch the intro for those killer tunes. The 8 Gen 1 is an absolute beast in emulation, I hope we can see that tier of performance (or a G3X) in an Odin-style handheld sometime. Playing PSP or other content on a native 16:9 handheld with active cooling like the Odin's would be the last handheld I ever need.
that would be a dream come true.
Odin 2? 😄
Anyone know the song??
Odin can already handle PSP pretty easily so the only reason to wait for an 8 Gen 1 version would be if you want upscaled GCN/Wii/PS2/Cemu
Wow I just bought the 6 is there a way to upgrade?
Have you tried demanding arcade games? Does Killer Instinct run on the Red Magic 7?
I never comment, but you had me do a spit take on the phone has COVID. Love the reviews!
Been waiting to see an 8 Gen 1 phone with active cooling. The GPU on it rivals the A15 5-core but most phones with it throttle to 60%
does it support dual sim cards??
Do you know of any Bluetooth controllers that are thin enough when not expanded to fit a modern phone in TATE mode? I am sick and tried of all these solutions that only work in landscape mode.
Do you know if Red 7 Pro have Global Unlocked Version?
I can only find Chinese Version of PRO.
Wow ...you, ETA and Taki all on the same day! Redmagic really scored today ;)
I'm only a minute in and I'm already impressed. Why don't more phones have touch 'shoulder buttons' for games?! It's such a great idea. Don't get me wrong, I adore clicky buttons, but a phone isn't held like a controller, you aren't given the grip you need to squeeze it comfortably like you would triggers on a controller. However, tapping little 'triggers' on the top of the phone is perfect. Especially if they give haptic feedback like when you are typing.
Asus gaming Phones do it too, Black Shark has well if memory serves. It's a common thing now with "gaming phones" !
@@Allyouknow5820 Awesome! I will be honest though (and I'm sure this is just because I'm in my 30's) but I really struggle to game on my phone. For some reason my brain just refuses to let me enjoy it, it feels wrong in a way I cannot describe, hence why I love this channel, looking at emulation handhelds, when phones are probably better than all of them... Anyway, I will get a gaming phone next and maybe that will change my mind.
@@novelezra I’m almost in my 30s and I felt the exact same way about mobile gaming but then one of my co-workers got me to download Call of Duty: Mobile so we could play it together at work and I found myself totally addicted.
Does it have a bypass charging anyway now i found out that there's some smartphone out there that can handle stable 60fps genshin impact
Loved the "on the back here" edit (4:41), I was confused for a second haha
hello, i have a question : is there a version of the gamesir x2 that runs on micro-usb or is there a similar controller that exists on micro-usb ? I can only find controllers on usb-c or iphone and it's kinda sad searching for something that might not even exists
Sorry there isn’t a micro USB version, but there is a Bluetooth version that would work with any phone.
bought a RG351P (like everyone who watched ur videos) and I've been loving it keep up the great work
Here's something that might be interesting to someone - on my Oppo find x2 Pro, if I left the screen refresh set up Automatic, or 120hz, an emulator like DuckStation would show 60fps but with obvious stutter. It was driving me crazy.
Setting the phone refresh rate to 60hz, cleared this up instantly. I don't know if this is the case with other Android phones but definitely try it if you notice stutter in emulators.
Curious... Don't most TV's have a zoom in function to reduce the black bars? I'd imagine that playing those 4:3 games zoomed in would look a lot better. Probably won't fill the entire screen but at least you won't see huge black borders all the way around....
Sucks that they're taking a page from apple in not including micro SD...although i guess you can use a mini micro USB adapter as a makeshift workaround to put your roms in.
As far as this new snapdragon chip, i was hoping that it would eventually reduce the price of the 888 chip, but considering how hot it runs, there aren't a lot of manufacturers that would be willing to throw in active cooling in their devices...at least not yet anyway. Still for $600+ it's not a bad deal considering other phones with the 888 chip run close to $1000 or more at the moment.
Hey, thanks for this review :)
Could you try Genshin Impact in Inazuma ?
Because, my old Rog Phone 3 can reach 60fps too at the begining of the game...
The last region in Genshin Impact, Inazuma or even Ekonomiya, are far more demanding in terms of graphics and details.
This could be a real test for this phone.
Concerning the fan noise, can it be disturbing in a silent room at night, for someone next to me ?
isnt there another dex like video out option
Are you planning on getting the Steam Deck?
Just got a 6R, I miss the 3.5 jack and there are no stereo speakers, but I just love anything else (well cam is very mediocre...). Love that it supports HDMI out through the usb-c, I can play with my slideout controller everywhere and at home just plug the phone in my USB C hub and play it on the big screen and I can charge it at the same time and when it hits 80-90% I can just switch it to bypass the battery (I wish I could set this to auto). Yeah and the fan is not needed for what I do with the SD888.
this is quite an interesting device! question, however. about the Gamesir. I’ve purchased one to accompany my LG V60 and I cannot get it to respond. The controller will express operation when plugged in through pass through but my phone seems to not power it on. Is there a specific setting I need to turn on within the device?
I own an X2 and it's pretty plug and play for me on a Samsung Galaxy S9. For what it's worth though, maybe you just have a faulty GameSir and will need to get it replaced (either by them or Amazon if you bought it there). I got my first one in July and had it break on me after less than a month. When I got my replacement from Amazon, since it was still covered by their warranty or whatever, it worked perfectly and has continued to work perfectly aside from it's USB C jack for passthrough charging not working at all. I honestly haven't replaced it since I can't be bothered to/don't think it's worth the hassle, but it makes me think these controllers are just unreliable
Thank you for taking the time to respond! My personal experience very well suggests that their is in fact a quality lottery with these. In fact, that seems to be the case among many of the players in this market. I guess we'll put up with it for the sake of gaming, hm? I wish us all better fortune.
Great Review!! Was this the Global Version??
Hi Retro. The "Covid forehead thermometer" is a laser thermometer and you weren't able to get a reading because the object you were testing is reflective. Try taping some matt finish tape to the phone before you start the test. That should do the trick.
I was already set on buying one before this video. Now I am even more confident in that choice. Thanks for the review! I'd like to say that the pro version is supposed to be out Q2 of this year. It only goes up to 120 hz refresh rate, but has an even higher touch sampling rate. Also it will be available with up to a whopping TB of storage. For me though, like you, I prefer using a controller. I am going to opt for this version over the pro.
Anyone here know the power it requires to operate charge separation feature on rm7/7pro? Coz I'll use it on a powerbank with the same rating.
The app "2nd Screen" in the Play Store can fix your aspect ratio problems. You don't need to root the phone but you may need to do some steps involving ADB.
I have a 6 Pro dedicated to gaming and it's fantastic. The pricing is amazing. If I didn't love my Fold 3 so much I'd probably go for this as my daily driver.
Ridiculously indepth vid, thanks for putting so much time into this. I managed to nab one of these on amazon today for 250$ between giftcard and discounts so I'm pretty happy
Out of curiosity since this seems to be a bit of an older vid, do you have a phone controller attachment that you'd reccommend over the gamesir nowadays, or is that still the way to go?
How about a HelioG25 for emulation?
Most of those contactless forehead thermometers have dual modes: one for body temp, and another for objects. The body one has a much lower range in most devices, and the object mode has a higher range but might not be as accurate. You'd want to check your thermometer and see if it has an object temp mode. I figured this out when I used object mode on my forehead by accident and it said I had a temp of around 95 which would mean I have hypothermia lol
How do you know that the 8 gen 1 is known for being hot???? Have you tested multiple phones with the doc???? I know the 888 did but I thought there were only 2 or 3 phones with the 8 gen 1 in it currently....
Is Drastic even working???
It doesnt work on my phone with Android 11,,, given they didn't update it anymore
But it still working on my old phone with Android 9 (Redmi Note 3 Pro)
If you click on the 'Mode' button on the side of the thermometer it changes from BODY to SURFACE mode and it works like any other thermometer
Yeah but that will ruin my joke! Just kidding, thanks for the tip.
Seeing Star Fox Assault in 1080p is just amazing! Donkey Kong looked so good too! I wish the aspect ratio was better but that’s what I’m looking for. GameCube at 1080p in those perfect pixels will just make me smile for days.
It was very nice! Plus you could always do widescreen hacks if the game supports it. I chose to keep most games at their original aspect ratio, but I did sneak in some widescreen F-Zero GX :)
@@RetroGameCorps Ooh that is good to know! I'd be interested in something like that :D the gamecube holds a lot of great memories for me. My sister and I grew up playing games together on that so it would be cool to revisit a bunch of those but in a nicer higher resolution :D widescreen F-Zero GX also sounds awesome.
Does it do video out? It's a big deal for me.
These prices are similar to the Steam Deck, I wonder how it will be a comparison of performance "for retro gaming" (not android Vs PC games).
You should check out the Razer Phone and/or the first ROG phone for good "used" options in the gaming phone space.
Amazing content as always.
Support 120w?
wow russ, you and chris tabletman uploaded at the same time
Bro please can you check for if the red magic 7 supports 90 fps on pubg mobile ?
Yes it plays at 90 fps when you set it to Ultra High FPS mode and with the highest available graphics, too.
Are all the games free to download or how does that work?
Yup, they are free to download
against the fan concerns. I'm still on my red magic 5 since their release date and the fan is still perfectly fine. only the battery life has maybe like 10 capacity loss if not less. and i consider myself a heavy user. my only complains are the fact that the screen generated some kind of backlight bleed at very liw brightness after years of heavy use. and my concerns are that the red magic 7 doesn't have the ability to chnage framerates dynamically to save battery like other sd gen 1 phones
Nice, just bought this in 2024. And weighing it all, I would still go for it.
Hearing about 100 degrees on the screen gave me a scare jump, until I realized you were talking about those obscure old traditional american units of yours.
I love the chicken break!!
they need to make a console with snap 8 gen 1 or 2. i would buy. odin pro is already really nice
Dark alliance baldurs gate is a famously difficult game to emulate. The latest aether update nearly gets it at full speed though
I have my 6R super smooth no issues with it.
Saw a viewer telling he got RM5 and fan is still good and working. Nice, just bought this in 2024. And weighing it all, I would still go for it.
The price is actually really nice.
I wonder how long it's gonna take till we get a good handheld emulator for 3DS
I just got a 3ds for 180
YES! pls bdm review next 🙏
Kinda wish my Odin had a chipset like this.
please continue to use cpu float when testing performance and gaming
*1:36** Bro what game you are playing please reply me I am waiting for your reply*
Burnout 2, it's listed at the top left corner of the screen!
@@RetroGameCorps Thanks bro I didn't notice
can i request aethersx2 the new update on Rp2+
Glad theres no notch. Still never got over losing home buttons tho. Would gladly take bigger bezels for that. Hate the rounded corners too, but hey at least there's an aux jack
can u please put a reciew plying black dessrt mobile
Try k50 gaming if you can
And add mgs3 in your tests plz and thanks in advance
You named your cat Chicken????? 😂😂😂😂 Thats's the funniest and cutest name for a cat I've ever heard, apart from calling a cat "Dog" this is the next best one
No Switch emulation test?(
Жаль, что не протестировал эмуляцию Switch.
Is this more powerful than Odin Pro?
maybe 10 times or even more :D
Much more powerful .. this is more powerful than SD888 chips and the Odin uses SD845
Does it sustain the fps for Genshin Impact on extended gaming sessions, and how long does the battery last when playing the same?
According to Taki's video it does sustain it (at least for 30 min), which is far better than not actively cooled phones which tend to drop frames progressively until about 6-7 minutes in and stay at the throttled frequency
sana all may ganyang android phone
👏😔🙏😍🥰
Snapdragon 8 gen 1 "plus" version built on TSMCs vastly better process node is out in July. Seems Samsung's process node for this SoC is just not up to scratch, hence the reportedly bad thermals. I'd urge people to wait three months and see if the plus version improves things. It's not as if we haven't seen all this before in previous generations of Snapdragon product..
BTW - are you going to review the Nacon MG-X-Pro? Seems to be the best phone gaming controller on the market at the moment; would love to hear your expert opinion. :)
EDIT: Three attempts later, I've finally got the exact name of the controller correct! :)
why battery nerf
Looks like Asphalt is running at about 30fps there, despite the fps counter
@retro game corps listen I know it's hard to tell a difference between fps but personally I played a few days switching to 60 fps and it's much different once you get used to it
Wow this does look like a really good deal for 620 usd. A little deal breaker is lack of sd card (no giant rom libraries) and battery is also small. 4500maph is just not that much for the hungry snapdragon chipset and one day battery is not good enough for me personally
Personally speaking, I think the touch sensitive keys on the side of the phone aren't a cheat considering that alot of mobile players can use 4 finger set up.
While yes it might free some space on the display but, here's the thing. You'll mostly be looking at the middle of the screen, not at the sides.
Though I would like to have a 2nd opinion on this one.
I'm sold, next moth I'll get this phone leaving the galaxy note gang, I had like 5 of those
Use Egg NS for Nintendo Switch emulation bro
This phone looks bad ass.
Game name plz
Yeah I was thinking about buying this phone but the more I read into it I realize it's not a suitable replacement for even my old LG v20 I still currently use considering it has no microSD card slot it has no removable battery it has no support for Verizon and even though it has no removable battery it can still be very much susceptible to water damage due to the exhaust port so that's a quadruple nope
117 fahrenheit (45 ish celcius) is perfectly fine for most electronics. I wouldn't recommend charging a battery while it's at that temperature, so ideally you shouldn't be charging this phone while gaming, but it should be fine-ish for discharge, so you can play at that temperature reasonably safely. Obviously, though, colder is better.
You can see the btemp going to 51 lol
i bet it gets warmer than that while charging, my phone charges at 67w and gets kinda warm
and he's using 165hz and rise mode too that's why
It really seems like the Citra emulator, at least on Android, isn't quite mature/optimized enough.
Most games do run fine, though considering its been out for years yeah.
Wow really wow.. Gaming phones should only be revieved by gamers...
A samsung phone with this performance would be perfect 😥 they allow dex
My RG351P quit working.... Squaretrade gave me a $98 check because it couldn't be fixed. I'm worried about ordering the new $250 model
you should buy a ayn odin instead it cam emulate a lot mpre than rg552
@@garycd72 can you order the odin or is out of stock
i can get them for you much cheaper than that and get you one. have a few Rg552s sitting here and am already getting a couple odin pros and an odin lite and dock. rg552 is still worth it
I'm looking for something pre-loaded with games. (I don't have a computer) but if it's free and easy to download games then I'd consider something better.
One sad thing with the rg351p was playing a 2 disc ps1 game and only being able to play the first disc....
I imagine if AYN start using this chip or at least a more current one 888 etc .. that the price point will be similar.
Nope. It would be quite higher. Simply because of the company size, It makes using snapdragon chips more expensive because of the upfront investment needed. But AYN supposedly said that they want to stay well below the $499 price mark for everything they do. So, even a 870 based device is not happening until a year and a half from now.
@@AlexDiaz-gw5ov Anymore than $700-$800 and noone would buy it!
@@AlexDiaz-gw5ov Be good if we could get an Odin with 888 or something for under $500 .. but agree dont see that happening for a long time!
@@MrNobodylikesyou yeah. It is just not possible to do right now.
Game name plz 11:00
Genshin Impact
The gamesir x2 actually runs switch games. You have to install eggns off of their shady WordPress site. You should demo how it runs with this processor.
Yeah, I chose not to demonstrate Switch emulation due to the shadiness and stolen code in that emulator. I’m hoping that the open source option improves over time!
Seeing a new phone with no notch and no hole in the display is very pleasing to the eyes. I'm rocking a refurbished Galaxy S9, because of these stupid trends Apple always starts. Oh and because I can't afford a phone like this. Specially not upgrading anytime soon. Since I quite literally use my phone less than 20 minutes a day.
