I don't know Chavez, but Yo La Tengo was at its peak in the 1990s (Electro-Pura). And Pavement was transcendently good. Malkmus sounded like a young Lou Reed. And if you can expand your count of favourites (are you British? Or Canadian?), there were Soundgarden and Nirvana. And Phish. And, of course, Superchunk in the 90s as well. Smashing Pumpkins. Sonic Youth. Sleater-Kinney. Pearl Jam. The 90s were a pretty decent decade for rock and its offshoots. Stone Temple Pilots.
I dont know why, but my twin 7 year old daughters are obsessed with this video...and I am not complaining at all. We've watched it every morning before school since it appeared it my feed.
it cracks me up to hear about kids seeing through irony, appreciating an art product with no cultural context whatsoever, and liking it merely because it's fun and interesting and cool!
Stephen Malkmus always has such economical, purposeful solos. It's very inspiring honestly as a songwriter...Another great example is with the late great David Berman with "In the Wild Kindness" on American Water.
Lyrics and music here, truly saving me from all dread. They'll learn. No matter where Rio is, he's up above. Where we're all goin'. Thanks to the four of you for this song, truly. See you at the Cradle 3/23, I'm your man in the chair for the gig.
Río Hackford will live forever in our hearts. What a beautiful sentiment to him from this talented bunch and now the whole world gets to feel it. Wonderful work, gentlemen.
“Thirteen”? I saw that on another social media platform. I don’t hear it at all. What Big Star song? And what part of this song sounds like which part of whatever Big Star song y’all are hearing? Some other dude said this just sounds like Pavement
It’s on my Americana playlist. Which I redefining that genre name to not just mean the Allman brothers… but as anything that feels like THEE great American road trip OR the 4th of July! 🇺🇸
Just read about this new band on my feel presents email subscription- Dirty 3 ams Pavement have been two of my fave bands since mid 90s! This band is truly exciting for this day and age!! Song sounds great guys!! Come and play the Gold Coast this summer
i wouldn't have picked that but now you mention it i can kinda hear some dead in there how beautiful!! Someone else said big star which yeah wouldn't have thought it unless someone mentioned it i hear pavement with new overtones and shades if big star and dead now ❤️ it
What a brilliant cocktail recipe for a band this was. And you can hear all their influences simultaneously, there's no overpowering member. Really impressive. BTW: Do yourself a favor and listen to Dirty Three : Ocean Song and Horses. Straight through.
God this is good.
Thank you, Tim.
Our values are under attack.
5 bags of popcorn, 5 bags of soda
Great job!
Thanks Tim, God is good
Ibold tending bar. Hell yeah.
This is truly perfect!
Amazing to notice
@@jymirIbolds bar I’m pretty sure
Wild that our lads are older now than Mick and Keith were when they shot the video this is winking at.
Matt Sweeney is such an underrated vocalist!
A king
White's drumming just keeps this tugging forward from beginning to end
Supposedly Jim “cannot drum” according to some ding-dong in the comments on the other Hard Quartet video
Jim's drumming is vital to this song!
@@slacktoryrecords4193 He is the drummer! Drummer of drummers, dancer of dancers. And style for miles and miles.
I'd heard of Jim for a while (Smog, etc) but his skills never actually registered with me until this song. He's the secret ingredient here.
I suddenly like new music again
The band we didn't know we needed.
This song shouldn’t ever end.
Malkmus checking out the trash bags for a second is maybe the best part of the spoof (Keef does the same in the original video, hilarious).
00:33 my favorite 6 seconds of the video is that strut down the steps
Mine too
Not the part where Malkmus does that Keith Richards thing with his folded hand in front of his face while sitting on the steps? That’s gold!
I liked the sauntering
@@GeoEnvi The affectionate quotes of the original Rolling Stones video are bang on, right down to the drummer's bald spot.
The shot of Malkmus glancing at trash bags on the side of the road cracks me up for some reason
hamming it up for sure!
I was just looking up Stephen Malkmus, and discovered he was in this band. This is so bloody good!
Pavement and Chavez were easily my two favourite bands in the 90s... this is mind-blowing.
And Skunk, I think Skunk was one of Sweeney's first bands.

Going to be listening to this about 347 times today
it will only take 13 hours so that's a very reasonable goal !

It’s a ripoff of the Stones waiting on a friend.
@motorcity7137 yeah mate...we all get the joke. But thanks anyway
@@motorcity7137I’d prefer “homage” lol

maybe not true economy ala Neil Young on Cinnamon Girl, but definitely tasteful and not overthought
Song of the year maybe I can’t stop
SM and JK Simmons are in a rock and roll band together? This truly is the greatest timeline.
this song just saved my summer

We are alright my man
Loving this record everyday since it arrived ♥
The idea you guys did a shot for shot remake of waiting on a friend on the same stoop is iconic.
Río Hackford will live forever in our hearts. What a beautiful sentiment to him from this talented bunch and now the whole world gets to feel it. Wonderful work, gentlemen.
Malkmus and Sweeney could be brilliant together. Plenty more please
Waiting on a Malkmus
This whole album kicks ass! Without a doubt my pick for record of the year!
So great to hear Sweeney singing. Wonderful tune and lovely tribute to Rio. ❤
Sully and Efron! Repping some dope skaters!
my new favourite tune
I can't stop listening to this song, it's kind of perfect
This makes me really, really happy
Great to hear Matt's voice again, and a great stones reference
I had never heard of these guys, and the video came up in my YT feed. I thought it was David Cross and Bob Odenkirk for a hot second.
Because it's comically whoreable?
Shades of Big Star. Nice.
❤️🥰🌟🌟🌟

"All We Gain, Isn't There For Us To Keep..."
“So We Howl In Our Sleep”
So good! Also makes me miss NY
Stephen Malkmus be that Keith Richards of indie rock on one song's video. Never thought I would think or think to type that ever.
The coolest dudes in the world right here!
Brilliant ❤ Only moment missing is Emmet & Jim (Bill & Charlie) sniggering at Matt (Mick) and his hat behind his back 😂
Love this. Just noticed Mark Ibold's cameo as the bartender.
Such mellow soulful vocals this Sweeney guy rocks. Love the riff too. Wonderful tune
Song of the summer
This song makes me super excited to hear the rest of the songs. So good.
such an instantly easy tune to listen to
man, this is a really good tune
This is nice!! Iove all of it but matt is the coolest guitarist. His solos are emotional
Sounds like Malkmus takes the solo. It has that Church on White feel.
Waiting on a friend tribute!!! Well done guys!!! What a riot!!!! So so cool!!!
I'm old and this short and sweet tune is solid gold !
Beautiful, greetings from Colombia

The kid with the miller lite is the best!!!

This video reminds me Waiting On a friend by the Stones
oh really
really really enjoyed this one, gents. What a great tune and a fun video. The vibes are gold.
I love that bar.
Sublime stuff is happening here.
I especially like what it sounds like around 1:16.
I love this song, everything about it.
I didn’t know the Barre Internationale was still open! And I walk through the damn EV every day. (And see Matt & his lady a lot.)
It moved down the street a few years ago.
Love this a lot
