The music was so relaxing! Gorgeous scenery!! Maybe sailor was filming this time? I saw everyone but her. 😮

      Thank you!
We wish Sailor could help film, but she doesn't have any thumbs so she can't hold the camera. I think she must have just been camera shy this time. 😎

Merry Christmas! I have really been enjoying all your videos!! We are planning on starting the Loop in the spring/summer of 2026 and are seriously considering a Kadey Krogen 42. It's the boat I first fell in love with about 20 years ago! We have since owned several boats and took our Cal 2-46 sailboat down the west coast into the Sea of Cortez for a couple of winters. We are currently boatless. Have you guys considered doing a video tour of your beautiful Onward KK42?

Greetings and Merry Christmas to you, too.
We've found the KK-42 to be a perfect size for our Loop journey. We had our eyes on a Kadey-Krogen 48 North Sea at first, but we're glad that didn't work out for us because the 42 has allowed us a bit more flexibility and access along the way.
We've talked about doing a video tour but haven't pulled that trigger yet. I think we need to move that up on our TO DO list because others have also asked. Thank you for adding your encouragement.
I hope our paths cross when you get out this way to do the Loop. It's a wonderful trip.

@ Thanks for the detailed response! I also find it fascinating that you came over to the KK after having owned a Nordhavn. Be interesting to hear your thoughts on that comparison as well. Love to meet up with you guys too! We are planning on an RV trip east to visit kids in Michigan and also start the boat search in August this year. Will look forward to that boat tour then! 😊 May your 2025 be filled with more love and adventure! P.S. Loved seeing your granddaughters with you!

      Kevin -
Comparison thoughts from the top of my head: We've loved both the Kadey-Krogen and Nordhavn. Both are solid and well-built boats, although. We never felt at risk or uncomfortable in either boat; they're both seaworthy and seakindly, even in very high and messy seas.
We've found the KK to be more responsive to helm commands (throttle and steering) and easier to keep on track with following seas. There are many things that influence performance-hull shape, engine power, propeller setup, rudder size, etc.-but for some reason(s) the KK is easier to handle and drives more like a family car than a large SUV.
Beyond those observations, we had some features we liked more in the Nordhavn-the galley had better workspace and layout, the interior lighting was much better (more uniform, brighter, fewer shadows, etc), the engine room was much easier to work in-and others we like more in the Kadey-Krogen-the salon has more room and more comfortable seating, the cockpit is larger and covered, we have a flybridge that makes landing and departures much easier, the guest stateroom is roomier and more suitable for visitors.
As you've likely heard, there are no perfect boats and everybody has different priorities, so it really pays to get on as many boats as possible. Trawlerfests and other boat shows are great opportunities to try things on for size.
Thank you for your kind well wishes. The best to you and yours in the new year, as well.
      We'll see you out there.

@@CruisingOnward wow thank you for taking the time to so clearly layout your thoughts on both of these great boats! I totally agree about getting on many different boats is totally helpful to see what feels like one that can meet all your needs or perhaps as many as possible with few compromises. We have been on quite a few over the years, but will be looking more carefully and earnestly starting this fall.

@@kevinbaerg It's our pleasure. We love talking about boats. 🙂
The quest for a suitable boat can take awhile, for sure. It took us just a little over four years of searching to find our first boat. Part of that time had to do with just setting up our lives to be able to pull the trigger, but we were also busy getting onto as many boats as possible to see what felt right for our needs and wants. Some features are negotiable-some aren't.
      Cheers!

When you get to Amsterdam New York roll up your windows and lock the doors.....

We're pretty security minded all the time. Amsterdam wasn't a problem at all. We had a great time and never felt at risk.
I'm sorry if you had a bad experience there. Things certainly happen. We were boarded by some punks at peaceful Joe Wheeler State Park marina a few years ago. You just never know...

Does it cost anything to go through the lochs?

    • @CruisingOnward
      @CruisingOnward  19 дней назад

      Thank you for asking.
There's no charge for recreational vessels to go through the locks on the New York canals.
If you're interested in more, New York has a great website for digging into the state's system of canals and locks. Enjoy!
