  • After 7 months of trying, today we finally got Ex SELNEC Southern Leyland Atlantean 7115 running again. all that was needed were new fuel filters, new 3 way fuel pipe joint, 3 new injector springs and some fresh diesel. within the next few weeks, the engine covers, tail lights, starter switch, stop switch, bumper, belts and radiator will all be replaced.

I once heard an AEC 505 without an exhaust revving. It was a sound to behold. It was a Swift bus here in Oz.

That's how a good old engine should be.

hi, no, it is park royal. unfoortunately it has come to the time now where i have decided it would not be feasable to restore it, and is now awaiting being dismantled for spare parts. :(

    Leyland Music. purring cat ;)
You may possibly get all the spares for this Leyland from Ashok Leyland since they have rear engined models. many are now common rail models IINM.
AVIA is owned by UK Based Hinduja group who also owns Ashok Leyland :)

In reply to Craighybus1, a quick look at the Ashok Leyland website reveals that they still produce 680 engines for marine use; powersolution.ashokleyland.com/leymarine-al6-series.php?ALM680. The engines in their buses are a Hino design known as the H series. They still build PD3 based front engined Titans; www.ashokleyland.com/product/buses

I doubt Ashok will carry spares for a Leyland 0.680. Their current units are Cummins derrived

Seems a shame to scrap a vehicle that was restorable, as there are groups out there who would have had it roadworthy again, as I knew this bus at Oldham depot till it was withdrawn, and would have looked great in orange again, but one of many 1972/3 reg buses lost from the Manchester area.

The internal steel body hadn't fared well being in a field as a house for a number of years. When the chassis was found to be cracked behind the rear axle it was then decided it would be best for spares. It's such a shame that none of the batch that were sold to the isle of man are with us anymore. But the salt air on the island takes hold of whatever it wants to.

My dad's mate used to be a mechanic at the Oldham depot I think in the 80's and 90's.

Unfortunately we didn't. There were so many problems with it we didn't get that far. Finding the crack in the chassis sealed it's fate.
