    Thanks to this video I was able to identify the camera I got from ebay (in a lot sale) as a Automat IV. The viewfinder won't close anymore on my model and the shutter seems to be a bit slugghish when using the slow speeds. Sadly that seems to happen to a lot of old leaf shutters that haven't been used in years. But as you don't really need them that often when shooting handheld I'll try it with film as soon as the weather (hopefully) gets better in the spring. This is quite an impressivly over-engineered piece of 1960s technology and it looks really pretty, so I'm lucky I got it for quite a reasonable price. Thanks again for your video!

      I have found my self searching for something like this when I've bought my Flexaret. But there was really less useful out there. Thats why I've decided to take this video myself.

    I just received mine via ebay, i was a bit startled as mine also has the 500th of a second shutter, i was a bit confused as on internet they only mention the VII version has 500th of a second. Anyhow very much tanks for your video, i was also stuck on how to cock the shutter, luck ; i did not know the operation of cocking the shutter was related to winding the film, luckily had some old fp4 lying around as well :P

    I just love your accent! Just correction. Flexaret was made by Meopta Přerov between years 1939 - 1970. The last model VII. was outdated and thanks to cooperation with DDR quite faulty.

      Sorry for the slight offtopic, but do you have any idea if it's safe to set the shutter speed on the VI model after the shutter has been cocked? I couldn't find any info online in English.

    Hi am wondering what is the magic electronic tool to measure the light intensity outside

    • @brainyphotographer2474
      @brainyphotographer2474  3 года назад +2

      It's a light meter. I am metering the intensity of the light which will hit the object I am about to take a photograph of. If you are looking for buying a used light meter don't buy an really old one which could be inaccurate because of old technology like selenium cells or mercury batteries which are no longer produced. Mine is quite accurate and uses 9v block batteries if you are curious about it.

      VII also has other masks with the Flexkin adapter so you can shoot other formats like 4.5x6. I am wondering if I can rig my VI to mimic this though

    Hello I have foexaret automat too, but it looks like the shutter is stucked. When I open the camera I can see through the lens so I can't even put film inside because it will be exposed eventually. Can you help me with this?

    • @brainyphotographer2474
      @brainyphotographer2474  3 года назад +1

      It is the top lens you are looking trough. But the film is exposed with the bottom lens. So you will always be able to look through the fiewfinder since it isn't connected with the actual picture taking mechanism. Look close to your bottom lens and see if the leaf shutter is closed then every thing should be fine with it. It could also be that you have locked your shutter release knob when you are not able to press it down. There should be somewhere close to it a small switch to unlock.

    You have an amazing camera. Is it possible to do double exposures with it? Greetings from Mexico

    • @brainyphotographer2474
      @brainyphotographer2474  4 года назад +2

      Actually it is absolutely impossible to take duble exposures with this camera. In the time it was manufactured the impossibilitiy of unexpected duble exposures was seen as a great feature which is mentioned for several times in the original instruction sheet.
      If you are searching for a TLR camera which is capable of duble exposures I would recommend you to check out the seagull 4a.

    It's a great camera, you have a wonderful looking one, looks in great condition.
    Mine of currently being serviced.
    Do you have the 35mm film adapter too?

    • @brainyphotographer2474
      @brainyphotographer2474  4 года назад +4

      I own the 35 mm kit, but honestly I have never tried it. To me it seems like a backup solution when no 120 film is availabe. You are only able to shoot portrait format with the camera in regular position. For landscape it is necessary to turn the camera ninety degree which comes really unhandy for using the top fiewfinder. But of course they built a small additional fiewfinder to slip on the coldshoe but I don't own it yet.
      Hope your camera is fine after service!
