My (2) Sonos Move speakers are the latest additions to my Sonos house system. I bought them primarily for outdoor patio/by-the-pool listening, but they've also found places in my home when not used outside. One landed in my home office (replacing my Sonos Play-3) and the other in the kitchen. When both are outside entertaining my guests, I'm impressed how "full" the sound is without having to push the power to the edge of distortion. I've owned Nakamichi power/pre-amp equipment hooked up to Bose 901s and JBL Studio Monitors, but the sound quality and versatility of these Sonos speakers has impressed me to the point where I bought a Sonos connect-amp to include my JBLs when playing the Sonos network of speakers. Glad to see you like them as well
I do, and also have a house full of them. And agreed, the Move is great outside, but pretty handy inside also. How are the Bose 901s holding up? The oldest speakers I have around here are B+W DM 330s. Mine are in good shape, comparatively, but a friend's cones just about disintegrated before he curbed them.
@@MaartenHeilbron My 901s were the older Series II (and in my opinion the best series) encased in those beautiful wood cabinets they made back then (70s). Unfortunately upon my final return from overseas before retiring from the military, they were damaged during the move...broke my heart when I unpacked and saw the damage. Never could replace them at that point.
@@themadgreek I am so sorry to hear. I had a friend who owned a pair - with a light organ on the wall behind. Between the space and the placement, I never heard anything that came close to that soundstage. Totally amazing entertainment experience.
Many similar questions fill various hifi forums re Sonos Move & Roam, viz. 'How loud is it?' and an answer in db or RMS output will suffice. The general answer is ... Loud. Thanks for clarifying 90 db for the Move. (7:42)
I've went for the roam, I feel like the move would be way too loud for my the garden as I don't like to disturb the neighbours so much, just something on the table when I'm out in the sun is enough for me. Really wanted something to sync with the kitchen speakers too so I can be preparing drinks and food inside and then have the music flow outside too. Sure the move would be better sounding but for most I think it would be a bit overkill unless they have a more private space outside
Nice concise review! Have you used a Sonos One before? Any opinion on the Sonos One vs Sonos Move? (or maybe even two stereo-paired Sonos Ones)? Also, I used to have a Google Home Max but I hated how I had to scream at it for it to hear me properly. Did you ever have any difficulty using voice commands with the Move? Like ever tried to mumble voice commands facing away from the speaker? I know that the Sonos One has a 6 mic array vs the Move's 4 mic array, but I'm wondering whether 4 is sufficient.
Thanks for your kind words. Although I have several Play Ones, they are older and don't support voice commands. I have several Google devices (including the LG) that usually seem to hear me just fine. As you suggest, they are not fully reliable under all circumstances, and they frequently mis-hear my music choices. Although I do still use voice commands, I primarily use the app on my phone - admittedly, it's much slower, but it's more precise. If you intentionally mumble, or face away from the device I'm not sure why you would expect good results.
Thanks for your informative review. I own a Sonos "box" that allows me to stream music through my traditional wired stereo system. Its a bit clunky to play my iphone music through this setup, so am wondering how easy it is to play music wirelessly from my phone on these speakers; I would lean towards the Roam unit. Thank you.
Yes, I also own one of those. Once any Sonos speaker is playing a stream, it can be joined by all your other devices.Connecting wirelessly to play music from your iPhone can be done with airplay or with bluetooth.
I have the Move and absolutley love it. Its loud and portable as long as you dont mind it being a little bigger/heavier, but you cant beat the sound quality. May have to get the Roam as well for pairing purposes though!
Love the review compared to others. clear voice and very detailed, what consumers are looking for when buying a product.
I appreciate that! Thanks for taking the time to comment.

The Move is loud, the Roam isn't really.

Great review, well done
Thank you kindly! It's always a please to read kind words.
One Move or two Romes?
One Move.
Can you pair a roam and move together over Bluetooth
Yes, although that is done within the Sonos app.

Question… my current in house unit is on. Sonos 1… does theRoam link to Sonos 1?
Yes. All Sonos speakers work through the app. Additionally you can connect to the Roam with bluetooth to play music, etc. directly from your phone.
great review👍

That sounds like my rationale.
