I’ve heard that the reason the Lamy Safari doesn’t come with a converter is because it’s usually the pen used by German kids learning cursive in elementary school. As you can imagine, most kids in elementary school would not be able to refill inks without making a huge mess.
I was born and raised in Germany and I can confirm. I am now 28 years old but we all did indeed use the Lamy Safari not only in elementary school but also in middle school and sometimes even in high school if we didn't feel "too cool" for it lol. I graduated 10 years ago but from what I've heard, the Safaris are still holding up pretty well in the new generations as well.
I picked up the Al-Star addition because of how popular the Safari was but I liked the metal look. I like them as a starter pen because how easy they change nibs, the larger cartridge compared to my kaweco ones
This exact Safari in Charcoal was my first fountain pen since I was a child many years ago. Got it about 3 weeks or so ago, and have been on a buying binge ever since, LOL....Got a Vista next, then a Blue Al Star...and my last one was the 2021 Black Forest edition Studio....Have added a bunch of other brands since then. It's hard to beat a Safari in the Price range....and yes, I did buy a couple of converters...at least they are inexpensive...
Yeah honestly its a good pen and the converters are affordable! Some other brands have these outlandish prices for their most basic converters. Congrats on your new collection!
Hi, great review but I think I noticed a small mistake. There are 2 guiding pins on the side of the converter that are supposed to go through the the in a specific way. In 2:23 you held the pen at an angle that showed the cut which is supposed to hold those pins
@@CraigRoccanova Yeah they are made to hold the converter tightly so it does not slip. I am glad it did not come across as rude. I hope you have a wonderful day :)
Just received my Safari. Blue with red clip. Can’t wait to use it. I’m a total newbie.
I’ve never tried a safari either but I agree it should come with a converter!

Concur. Love the metal version better, and the interchangeable nibs are the best. A very good, flexible option that allows a new user to experiment.
Just ordered one and was wondering what can with it nice video
I want to buy one. I love Lamy.
Nice review! I think I would be okay with the grip but I still have never owned a Safari
Found a deal on that exact pen with the converter at $30 including a 5 cartridge pack

Compared to Al star, I like the vista version. Good starter pen. 😊

Dude you were right! I just checked it out and saw the mistake! Thanks for looking out!

@@BASHER193 you too!
Converter needs to be rotated a half turn. It should push into the small holes.
Thank you! You aren’t the first person to notice it! It’s all fixed now!
When are you doing the 1000 subs giveaway?
As soon as the pen comes in! It's just stuck in port 😩
