Great video as always Shari. I love watching these best of/worst of videos. I can pass the info on to family and friends when they are looking for a new vehicle. We LOVE our 2021 Toyota Venza Limited. Averaging 5.72 L/100 km/41.1 mpg after 2 years. Sad to hear it is being put out to pasture again (it first arrived as a rebadged Toyota Harrier turned into a Lexus RX many years ago). Hopefully we will have many wonderful, stress free years with it.

My neighbor's husband bought a Alpha Romeo Giulia in spite of my warnings. That car was a constant problem, regularly going to the dealer, then a Italian "Junk" repair shop, that fleeced them mercilessly. Finally, they ended splitting up over the car's problems and after she realized why he wanted a flashy, middle-aged, "let me impress the young ladies car"...well you know the rest.
In short, the Giulia seemed like a curse. In more ways than mechanicals!😂

The decline started when Renault acquired 37% of Nissan's outstanding stock in 1999 and named 'the cost-killer' Carlos Ghosn as CEO in 2000. His top priority was to make the company profitable and he accomplished it by closing plants, laying off highly skilled (and well-paid) employees, and lowering quality like using CVT on most models.

THANK YOU!!!!! We are currently in litigation with Nissan/Infiniti to repurchase our 2022 QX50 Sensory. It has had so many electrical problems, sensor problems, and connectivity problems that Infiniti does not seem able or willing to fix. The entire A/V unit has been replaced twice and all 3 units failed to work properly. Nissan/Infiniti financial also has a 3rd party buyout lease restriction which would have required us to take a $10,000+ hit to get rid of a car that doesn’t even function properly. This process has been so frustrating. I’m just happy to see that there is finally information out there about how bad this car is. Not to mention incredibly unsafe because the sensors engage the breaking system and our Nissan/Infiniti dealership service department says they can’t do anything about that because they can’t get a code on it. Sooner than later that is going to do a great deal of harm.

@@tcnthecarnations1876Exactly, 💯 percent CORRECT. Go to any Toyota showroom, you'll find a 10K mark-up on the MSRP and the dealer will be totally unwilling to negotiate with the customer and they'll be dismissive with the customer, saying "We're Toyota". That happened to my cousin who dealt with the same Toyota dealer for the last twenty years. She walked out of the showroom in disgust. Just because of name recognition Toyota dealers have become emboldened to treat customers like dirt. Not everyone wants to drive a Toyota. Go to a dealership that respects YOU and YOUR MONEY. I drive a Nissan Altima and I've had no problems with it and I plan on getting a new one, especially now that it comes with AWD. Toyota and Honda prices are starting to look more like a loan sharking extortion operation. I don't mind passing on Toyota. Not at all.

Exactly. Most modern BMWs start falling apart at around 80,000 miles. If you were to survey the same owners after the vehicle hits that mileage, and is no longer under warranty, the satisfaction rate would be much lower.
But as long as you only keep those cars while the warranty is valid, they are fun machines.

I just think you have to be an informed buyer… and don’t take unnecessary risks.
Volkswagen and Mercedes-Benz appear on these lists, Porsche doesn’t… neither does AMG.
There’s just not enough people buying them that are CR Subscribers. Think about it… if you could afford an AMG S-Class why would you subscribe to CR? Or a Porsche 992?
Yet if you look at MB… the A series is not a heck of a lot more $$ than a RAV4. A GLA 250 starts at $50K… of course it’s not going to be as reliable as a GLS ($115K+).
The luxury brands are still expensive but they are also more affordable than they used to be. Even a RAV4 gas version can cost more than $50K and you are talking about 200hp not 450…

i own two Subarus, a 2018 limited legacy (assembled in us, 40% US parts) and a 2021 limited crosstrek (assembled in Japan) and my experience with each has been very different so far. The legacy has had a number of issues though all were addressed under the warranty. But im really disappointed about the CVT performance even though ive replaced the fluid every 30k miles. what is definitely not reassuring is that Subaru extended the CVT warranty to 10 years 100k miles and that had firmed my decision to trade the car in before then. On the other hand it has been a very different experience with the Crosstrek since the CVT feels smooth and refined and i have not had the sort of issues the legacy faced though it has features like dual zone climate control, heated rear seats, rear vents and Hill descent control that the lcrosstrek doesn't have, though it has X mode which is a step above. i will definitely consider their upcoming hybrids with a eCVT transmission and the toyota hybrid system though.

I went to the Toyota dealership yesterday and looked at RAV4s. The website said the two I looked at was 37-38k. Both were actually priced at 44k. If Toyota wants to over price these cars to this level I have no problem buying from someone else and boycotting Toyota. Anyone fool enough to pay 7k over MSRP deserves to get ripped off. Kia and Mazda's website was accurate at the lot. Over priced add ons that I didn't ask for and a huge markup from MSRP called SRP is no more than double talk. If they're worth so much to the dealer he can keep em.

Keep looking, it's dealer specific. I got a fully loaded Rav4 Prime that someone backed out on before it arrived (I only waited 2 weeks for the car to arrive from Japan), they didn't mark up at all and Toyota was running a $6,500 off lease deal (which I immediately bought out with cash). So the highest end Rav4 possible cost me $47k after tax. Keep looking.

Unreal. It is not at all Toyota, it is that dealer. My take: instead of going to the Korean clunkers, find a decent Toyota dealer. Or buy from the Koreans if you want to be happier than buying from Chinese commies or Germans etc.

The new 2024 Kia Seltos SX is just under 39k out the door with bumper to bumper extended 10yr 100k miles warranty. A lot of features for the money - it is extremely comfortable and drives well. I also own a Bmw X3 M -saying that because i compare same size and similar feel. Not the power as the BMW obviously but the Seltos goes pretty well. The Seltos is fun to drive. The plastic parts in interior is so far my only complaint and the parking sensors no beep when backing and no parking sensors in the front at all and no heads up display in the United States vehicles for some reason. That they missed their mark.

Car Help Corner, have you researched if C.R. gathered a large enough sample of car owners to make an accurate assessment of customer satisfaction. Are the surveys sent out to only C.R. subscriber members? I've heard those rumors, which could mean the survey sample is way too small and perhaps bias, because only a specific sect is asked to respond.

I’ve been looking into new cars to replace our 2017 CRV and 2017 Corolla iM. I am appalled at the price gouging Honda and Toyota stealerships are doing to people. We only keep our cars around 7 years and 180-200k miles. Subaru and Mazda dealerships have been advertising below MSRP even with the dealer addendum most sales rep have been saying everything is negotiable no matter dealer addendum. I’m just looking up which cars are equal to what we are trying to replace. I will then head to dealership only not stealership to test drive and maybe buy. Otherwise , I will hold out and let the high interest rates drive some of these stealerships out of business. Even better I would have save enough and just pay cash

It pays to be a smart consumer. I bought a dealer demo Certified Altima Platinum with 3,000 miles on it for $23k just before covid hit. The only issue was a bad antenna which was replaced under warranty. If i paid mid $30’s i’d agree that there are better values. Good luck buying a loaded car for $23k with a CPO Warranty right now. You might get a Versa for that price or a stripped down Elantra. The market is turning though. A reckoning is coming for dealers and OEMs. I believe in Karma and they are about to get a dose of reality soon.
