      Just as a note, a cat which stops grooming itself is also a sign of pain or sickness, so if your cat stops grooming itself, take it to the vet. Immediately (as sometimes, it can be quite serious. Cats hide a lot of discomfort, and they can turn fast).

    After what I heard this owner just screams irresponsible cat owner. You get a special needs cat who is both blind and deaf, you leave for 3 years during that time, and then you bring in a new cat, but yet you doesn’t understand why that special needs cat is so unhappy and aggressive. There are just some people who shouldn’t own cats, she is one of them.

    • @goldiemum3991

      And I'm just waiting for them to fall back into their old behavior. That Jackson had to give them a ton of instructions on how to play with their special needs cat and to properly take care of her... well that says enough about the owners.

      yes but they understood they were doing something wrong and instead of getting rid of the special needs cat (which many people would do) they acknowledged their mistakes and reached out for help, did the homework and improved everyone's lives. I think this screams a cat owner who learned from their mistakes and became responsible.

    It's wild to me that the woman thinks that they should euthanize the cat because it's not happy living with them ... How about rehoming to a more experienced and appropriate household? Does it not occur that maybe you're the issue and your care for this animal is inadequate and is what's causing the suffering?

    • @chibamoon6410

    • @ItsHaisho
      @ItsHaisho Месяц назад +92

      In the mom's defense, she thinks the cat is so severely depressed that her being rehomed wouldn't help. She even says, "I don't think she enjoys a minute of her day." This is also a cat that was never supposed to be her responsibility, but her daughter basically took her severely disabled cat, and dumped it on somebody who has even less of an idea how to meet its needs than she does.

    • @Chrizesu
      @Chrizesu Месяц назад +20

      When cats get really old/disabled re-homing can be such a traumatic experience that they don't make it. The humans have an older way of thinking, but they can learn to be proper caretakers.

      It was irresponsible, but they took steps to correct their mistakes and hopefully won't make them again. Getting help when things went wrong is a sign of someone who cares about and loves their animal. They learned what went wrong and how to go about fixing it. It can be easy to criticize. But once you experience a situation, you may realize how terrible and confusing it can be. Getting help was the right thing to do.

    Once a cat (or dog) starts going blind *and* deaf, you need to keep everything as consistent as possible. No moving the furniture. No new house rules. Keep it as is as much as possible.
    Their world is now based on smell, and information that they already knew. New things are super scary!
    Introducing a new pet at that point is extremely likely to fail... And sorry but, leaving for 3 years when they need you the most is a terrible way to repay the kindness and comfort that they provided for you. If you must leave regardless, don't expect them to treat you the same way they used to. That is broken trust, they went through the heartbreak of losing you and they don't know why. Not all of them will be thrilled when you return, some of them will keep feeling hurt.

    • @undefinederror40404

      Sidenote, our elderly sweetems is losing sight. She can still see, but we don't know how much she sees. We are not moving things anymore and keeping to established patterns as much as possible.
      I'm not so delusional that I think we're doing everything perfect. 10 years from now I'll probably look back and know how we could have done better. But as of now, I would have hoped every pet owner knew to accomodate blind (and deaf) animals in these ways 🤔
      Not to hate on the people in this video, I'm sure they would have done things differently if they had learned how sooner.

      No I fully agree and think that they originally didn't want to put in the work and locking her in a bathroom was a solution for THEM not the cat. I wouldn't abandon my fully healthy and seeing cats for that long because the relationship would be irreparably damaged. you just don't leave animals that long or kids or family and come back thinking everything is going to be hunky dory let alone an animal who's suffering and loosing senses that us as humans would flip out about if we started loosing them. I get no ones perfect but literally a simple Google search could have told them what their doing is isolating and causing depression it shouldn't really even really take that to understand. I can only assume they saw a video of 2 pets where one is blind and/or deaf and one is not with the non-sensory impaired pet acting as a guide animal and often times a therapy animal for the other. I can see why someone would see that and think “My pet has similar special needs to those in the video. If they are thriving with a buddy, maybe I should get my pet a friend!” , Except that you can’t just magically created a bonded pair. A lot of the time they were raised togeather or survived tough/traumatic times but other times they just clicked together. About three years ago, I had health problems that caused me to be in 2 hospitals and a rehab nursing home, and was gone for four months. The nursing home didn’t want to allow me to leave. I finally gave them a deadline. I acquiesced by giving them 30 days to put together a discharge plan. Baby was so upset with me. I felt awful about it. My friend checked in on her daily. To this day, if two or more people are I the apartment with me, she gets upset because to her it means my mommy’s going to leave for a long time again.

    Moving away for three years was bad enough but what the heck did they get the kitten for? *In a whiney voice* 'Oh our cat is (nearly) blind, deaf and difficult. Yeah let's get a kitten that will love us and we just shut the older depressed and broken cat in the bathroom. Perfect solution. Oh that does not work. We can always put her to sleep right?'. And doing that to a cat that literally kept you from harming yourself. My cat saved my life (well saved me from doing something to myself) and I love her to the Moon, the Sun....heck to the end of the Universe. And I would never put her or any other cat to sleep if I don't absolutely have to from a medical standpoint. They need to worship the ground Burberry walks on!!!!! Thank you Jackson Galaxy for helping this beautiful sweetheart.

    Make a decision! It's completely SELFISH to lock a suffering cat in the bathroom because you've attached some weak human need to cling to the memory of what the cat means to you. The cat and the present mean nothing to you! That makes me sick. I cried both empathizing with the mother and when I first saw this angry cat. I'm glad this guy was there to help her!

      It's the mentality of people in America. If a relative or loved one goes deaf and blind they go straight into a nursing home & are never visited again, since Noone wants to give up their own time to assist the person thru life or to visit. Generally the deaf & or blind person gave up their life to raise family members and that is how they are thanked.
