    I drove aM543 around Vietnam for a year from Long Bingh up to Pleichu on convoys or going out to the field pulling and replacing power packs on cannons or unloading ammunition at the ammo dump. Being a draftee I was used like a red headed step child.hahahahaha

    Yeah,when you wore an Army uniform,you used outriggers,blocks and you definitely did not drive around with the crane unsecured out over the cab.Not in my unit anyway.

    I have that Very Same truck, except it's a Troop Transport and it does not have the Front Winch. It was a Non-Runner when I bought it from the Auction. I put New Batteries, Tires, Fuel Pump, All 6 New injectors, ALL LED Lights, EVERYTHING on it is Operational. I drive it to Car Shows and Parades around the Phoenix area All the time:~) I changed ALL the Fluids so Everything is Fresh. I went to San Diego the first of the year. My GPS says she runs Steady down the Interstate at 60 MPH. and she gets 6 MPG. She is an Absolute BLAST to drive:~) I LOVE Your Wrecker:~) I Only Wish mine were a Wrecker:~)

      You own a M923.I use to own a 1983 M923A0.I currently have three of them yet,and one is from a Fire Department with a 1,500 Gallon Water Tank on the rear.The NHC-250 Cummins in all of mine get 3-4 MPG.

      @@Slim_Slid When I bought mine from the Phoenix Police Dept, they had run that Bio-fuel crap in it... It DID Not Run much longer after that! LOL I had to replace Every fuel injector, Rebuild the fuel pump and completely Flush the tank and fuel system. But she runs like a Top now. I do the servicing, so I know its done right. She gets a pretty steady 6 miles per gallon, and according to my GPS she tops out right at 60MPH. I still have the flat bed with the stock sides that come down into the benches for the troops to sit on. I would LOVE to find the canvas top and Ribs for the bed one of these days:~)

      @@DESPRADO111 My M923 with the G177/1100×20 Tires runs 64-65 MPH,one M923 that I've gotten that has NDT-900×20 Tires does the same.My former M923A1 that had 49/1400×20 Tires only did 52-55 MPH.A Fire Department with one M923 also runs those Tires and their truck does the same.My M931A2,M923A2,M932A2,etc with the 53/1200×20 CTIS Tires only goes 60-63 MPH.The 6CTA Cummins in my A2's does 7-8 MPG,the NHC-250 in my older ones never got higher than 3-4 MPG.
      The reason why it damaged is because of age,using heavier contents than Diesel in a older Ignition Compression Engine causes damage to Hoses and Seals.And the NHC-250 Cummins in both the M939 and M809 Trucks crack Sleeves and Gaskets when they are mis cared for.A Diesel Engine will Compress any Oils and Fluids you can find,Lubrication is what makes them long last.If it's in a top notch or decent status,other alternatives won't effect it at all.

      @@Slim_Slid Right, I only run the best quality fuel I can. I flushed the old coolant out of it when I bought it and replaced the antifreeze with the type that has the Anti-Electrolysis additive already ij it from NAPA. Electrolysis is a HUGE Killed of Liners. And I replaced the oil in the engine and tranny both. I went through it, Lubed it and checked the differentials and all the gear boxes. The only issue I have id that both front hub seals leak. It's not bad, It is just more Aggravating. I Hate leaks... I just can't seem to find a Good mechanic in the Phoenix area to replace them. And, I am getting Too busted up in my old age to redo those seals. I bought new ones from Eriks in L.A, I just need to find the Mechanic now.

    As being qualified on this truck…this operator is putting himself & others who watch this looking for a lesson in extreme danger.
    Having your foot outside the gondola is VERY dangerous. One false pull of the swing handle and you risk losing a foot. There is only like 2 inches of space….your leg would be sheared off at the calf.

    The star on the door is not correct. The stars on the bumpers and doors went away late in 1974 when camouflage patterns were applied. Equipment that was deivered in OD was repainted with camo at the installation prior to hand-off.

    This fool is a danger to himself and anyone close to him. I operated wreckers when in the marine corps ( m543, m816, and m936). Outriggers out whenever boom was in operation. And NEVER move the vehicle more than a few feet for a reset, without securing the boom.
    Guys like this make me cringe

      @staym925 5 месяцев назад

      😂😂😂 your lucking if you get heat, some guys have put ac in them, but even with heat and ac, they leak so bad that dont really help. Mostvof these trucks came with soft tops and can take top down. Best thing to keep cool in these trucks is tobjist tilt the windshields out and let air flow in. I rino lined mine, then used padding, so help cut down noise and help hold heat in and now I have a ac unit out if a kenworth going to put in.
