Never expected tong po to be this interesting of an interview. I can listen to him for days
Agreed. And 13:30 comment, it makes me wonder what JCVD did to continue in the industry .. thinking Weinstein as in Harvey etc. I have no doubt he comprised himself, as do ALL in hollywierd the occult epicenter.
Thank you Scott for giving this guy to shine.
Absolutely. Per 13:30 comment, it makes me wonder what JCVD did to continue in the industry .. thinking Weinstein as in Harvey etc. I have no doubt he comprised himself, as do ALL in hollywierd the occult epicenter.
Absolutely scared me as a child. I first saw kickboxer on tv. Him kicking that post…. Great character!
Basically, Van Damme would have never been a star without Qissi. Qissi pushed him and what does he get for thanks? Nothing. That just infuriates me to no end.
Yes.but even with his help if he didn t wanted to be a star and if he didn t was that good he wouldn t become a star.and always without someones help you can t do anything
Spot on. And 13:30 comment, it makes me wonder what JCVD did to continue in the industry .. thinking Weinstein as in Harvey etc. I have no doubt he comprised himself, as do ALL in hollywierd the occult epicenter.
Or Qissi is over selling his role in the story. I'm sure there is another side to some of this.
It certainly looks this way, if Qissi’s account is the truth anyway.
What an absurd nonesense
Qissi was one actor whose negative characters dominated Van damme's characters in their movies, he made the largest impact during and after every movie
It's sad to hear that their friendship was broken. Qissi shows he has a big heart.
But for Po, I thought, for the longest time, that he was a real person too. He's a scary motherf**ker! 😨
Tong Po, was and still is in my opinion the best coolest / baddy. Tong Po had the best introductory of a baddy. Hearing those thuds as he kicked that pillar (off screen), then seeing him do it, then seeing his face and the reaction on Kurt's face as he kick the pillar more. Bloodsport, Kickboxer and A.W.O.L (Lionheart) are my best 3 films of all time. Watched those film's more than i can count. It's great to hear Mohammed Qissi's interesting stories of the past from his and Jean Claud's life and from the movies.
Qissi is so gracious, I absolutely love this guy.
Wow, thank you Scott, this interview is Amazing. My parents had a vhs with Bloodsport and Kickboxer, so me and my friend watched it on repeat hundred times during summer break back in the early 90s. And what an amazing advice for the kids. I also tach my kids to listen and respect their parents 🙏
I love how Scott said he was going to cut some parts down, but allowed Mohammad to keep talking. And Scott uploaded all of the interview. What a guy. Tong Po. What a timelessly most terrifying villain in any action/karate movie. Wishing Tong Po/Mohammed Qissi a happy fulfilling life for the coming days.
"Excellent interview! Thanks, Scott Adkins, for the insightful talk with Muhammad Qissi on martial arts in film. Truly inspiring!"
Thanks Scott and special thanks to Qissi and Tong Po. 😊 I suspect Scotts adoration for that movie and character is same as mine. I was maybe 10 years old in early 91 and started Taekwondo because I seen kickboxer and Bloodsport. We didnt have the money so i wore sweatpants and t shirt and never got a belt before i dropped out after several months and a bloody nose later. But i dedicated myself to marrial arts thru my teens. The respect, the exercise, fitness, stretching. I got the Bruce Lee Tao of jkd book and made my friends do the exercises lol. I had to move away so my friend that went to that school told everyone there dont mess with me i know kung fu so it was easy lots of respect. Id do situps hanging from a bar on the tree out front play basketball, hike, best shape of my life etc etc. Eventually i stopped being so strict after becoming a young adult, work girlfriends etc but i kept stretching and kicking and ever since try to keep that mindset from my teens like be aware and dont bully anyone or show off and be respectful. I never got s black belt but i always took Bruce Lees saying to heart, belts are only for holding up your pants. I think true martial arts is a way of if life and your mental state. Doesnt matter whos better, we're all equal. Just like Mohammed, jcvd may have been the star but it takes everyone working together to make an impact. And those movies meant the world to me as a kid. ❤
Wow Scott his name not being mentioned in Kickboxer you can tell it hurt and with Van damme issues. Wow this man definitely could have been as big as van damme in my opinion. Respect! So much respect!
Thank you Scott!!! Much love always. 👏👏❤️❤️❤️❤️
Beautiful ❤️ I love the show. Mohammed, your very sport person and good heart ❤️👍👏👑 thank you Scott!!! 👍👏❤ 🥋
I really appreciate the honesty of Mr. Qissi. This has got to be one of the most complete insights I've ever seen into Bloodsport, Lionheart and Kickboxer.
This should go into a book.
Come on Scott and Mohammed! Write a book!
Collaborate with JCVD.
???
Profit ;-)
Good idea
Maybe you should and help them out.
Wow. He could have been a co producer, producer, show runner for van damme. But sounds like JCVD wanted some emancipation which is understandable. I love how he stayed simple and humble. Hearing that he's never been paid for the role of tong po is ashame.
I mean the film industry didnt even want to use his real name Mohammed Qissi. They tried whitefying it into Michel Qissi because hollywood was and still is racist.
Ridley Scott even said studios wont fund fund a film if the lead actors are called Mohammed so and so from such and such
From what I recall they had a falling out do to the fact that Qissi got married to a producer Lady that hated JCVD and she convinced him to keep a car he bought for JCVD during Lionheart since JCVD didn't keep his promise of splitting everything 50/50 with Qissi. It's good that they are cool now but that is the story that is out there for their falling out it's told by a old guy that work with them it's on the vikingsamurai channel.
@@AlanJ1993 yes I saw that interview too. I missed the "married" part though.
If it's true that his best friend took their combined bank account, all movie profits, and never gave him a dime or any acknowledgement for basically dragging him to stardom that would break up the relationship forever. A friend doesn't steal from another friend, especially a child-hood friend.@@AlanJ1993
His multiple mentioned point such as 13:30 comment makes me wonder what JCVD did to continue in the industry .. thinking Weinstein as in Harvey etc. I have no doubt he comprised himself, as do ALL in hollywierd the occult epicenter.
Thankyou Scott that was a very good interview with Mohamad. Loved kick boxer too.
I've always had much respect to the martial arts industry and appreciate you doing this channel.❤😃🙏
Passionate man, i love seeing people who love what they do. Shame they stopped being friends.
Scott Adkins = one of the best..Maybe à next movie with Jason Statham ever 💯💯💯 Oliver from Belgium
Hope you can Imvite Jean Claude one day... love that
His ego won't let him go in this magnificent show unfortunately... 😒😖
That would be up to JCVD, If you can get intouch with him or not?
@@GothamKnight84661 they are not friend even made some movies together as Scott mention before , Scott said he don’t have JCVD phone no.
@@heyyou8103 JCVD has a huge ego. He toned down Scott's skills whenever they are onscreen together to not outshine him.
Great vid as always! Thanks Scot. Lionheart is the first Van Damme movie I watched and it changed my life!!!! 👍👍👍
Probably not quite the in-depth technical breakdown analysis of each scene Mr Adkins was hoping for but we still got fun anecdotes from Mr Qissi.
Thanks for shining a light on these guys. Action movie stars and stunt performers deserve respect too.
Michael Qissi, a true legend. Thank you for the great movies👌
I hope so much that we will someday see Jean Claude Van Damme on the @Scott Adkins channel😍💕It will be a meeting of two legends💕
If someone wants this too, please like this comment ^ let Scott see🧡
Man like Tong Po. One of the very best Villians ever to grace the screen. Chung like was also a badass villian.
I love it my fellow martial arts jakson, get Ernie Reyes Jr back that was a great interview he seems like he's a nice guy.🎉🎉
2 hours ago?
you're one of rare true martial artist acting and making high perf in movies, i am one of Vandamme, Mr Qissi, Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan fan , you're also one of my favorite actor
This just improved my weekend!
I still have Wrong Bet on VHS. Great movie
Love this! Two legends!
Thank you Scott for doing this!
Exceptional insights here, the best interview you've done yet. Mohammed's passion oozed from start to finish, very entertaining.
Thanks for this video Scott
Man. Scott has such an endearing look in his eyes in these conversations that you don't really see when hes doing action. Id like to see more drama, straight up drama roles from Scott. I think it could take him to a new level.
In undisputed 3, the character was tough, as they show him as cleaner watching others fight, you can see the emotions running high, as he wants to make a come back as a fighter, that was drama 😉
@@cobra8676 ive never seen that movie.
@dafrog491 your missing out dude
@@cobra8676 The scott movie for me is Assassination Games.
@dafrog491 He gained recognition because of the Boyka character, he was praised for his appearance as villain in undisputed 2. Everyone loved the boyka character over Micheal jay white
Waiting fr Wesley Snipes , Jason Statham, JCVD also
Are you going to help Scott get ahold of them, even though they maybe busy or maybe maynot want to do it?
This was great, happy to hear he found peace for himself. Thanks for the interview!
Fantastic interview!✌️
I'm speechless. I used to resent this man as a kid, thinking he's the ultimate villain. In real life, it was the other way around. Jcvd was the real villain. Listening to Quissi's attention to detail after decades...he still remembers so much...And that humbleness! He puts modern day pseudo-fighters from Morocco to shame. Disrespectful mafia brawlers at most. Listening about his father and the real fight outside the ring...makes me realize how complex being a real fighter is. All my life, all Moroccans I saw, were the ultimate hooligans, a disgrace. I can't believe the difference. Clowns like badr Hari ain't got nothing on Quissi.
I am continuing to watch movies with Scott Adkins. And now I watched The Avangement. Wow... That was powerful... I understand that, of course, that I can't compare Mr. Adkins with those actors completely, but that was really impressive! That reminded me Daniel Day Lewis in In the name of father and in Boxer or Tom Hardy in Legend, that reminded me the Oldboy by Park Chan Wuk. That reminded me Guy Ritchie films. And music by Sean Murray - it's like inspire with Ennio Morricone in Professional. Thanks for your job, Mr. Adkins!
فلسطين حرة 🇸🇩🇸🇩🇸🇩🇸🇩🇸🇩
Fantastic interview. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
we need a big budget hollywood hongkong crossover where all of these martial artists have a cameo.. maybe like a martial arts comedy spoof where they all make fun of each other in good spirits and where just being there amongst the best of the best is a blast.
Hi Scott,
You are a great great actor! not only for martial arts films. You are the best for me. Thank you for such an special content on your channel, it is a pleasure to see your enthusiasm and cordiality in each interview, it is clear that you enjoy doing it. May the successes continue and I hope to see you in more movies soon. I hold you from Argentina.
thank you mr scott ❤😍
Muhammed definitely needs to have another interview in the future!
Awesome 3 part interview! Soooo much info and great stories.
I hope i can get 💖 by scott adkins cuz his my favorite character.
Shocked about Van Damme ,he disrespect Mr Qissi who was a good influence on him and helped him so much in his film career ,im glad Mo Qissi is getting on fine now and is a loving father to his children,Godbless him 🙏🏼🙏🏼
A special shout out to Tong Po, who I hated and feared in the movie Kicboxing. 😁💜
Great Interview!
I think I watched Bloodsport 20 times...
Scott is spot on regarding Tong Po being more mysterious when credited as himself. I didn't even know Mr. Quissi was Tong Po until early 2000's. I first saw Lionheart (A.W.O.L. in the UK) in the early 90's and recognized Quissi from bloodsport, but never once recognized him as Tong Po, even though I'd seen Kickboxer mayber 100 times.
How down to earth and humble Scott adkins is, a guy whos done boyka who was bonafide bad@SS
Amazing video like all your other videos Mr Scott ✨✨✨✨
Yeah i loved Wrong bet, great movie.
Mind blown🤯
Super la vidéo Scott 😀👍
Scott, pls get Ron Smoorenburg on your show. He has been like in many of your movies.
My grandpa fav movies.. van Damme vs tong po
Brilliant interview Mohammed is a great storyteller. Scott Adkins all the best too
Would love to meet Mohammad one day, he glows with honesty and respect! 😊 Another great episode!
Love you guys 🥰🥰
Great interview
Beautiful interview
this guy 🙌
Very interesting interview)
Great to hear you also thought Tong Po was really Tong Po 😂 I had Kickboxer on vhs, told all my friends about it and how Tong Po was a real kickboxer from Thailand hahaha
I am From Egypt, and I admire you very proud to follow you, and my eyes 💖, you are my ideal ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Part 3 let's check it up
excellent 3rd interview!! QUISSI really can play any character!! from a rude man to the most secondary!!! Since I first saw the movie in 2000, when I was very young, I was afraid of it, especially when it hits the wall structure!! What is LION and BLOOSPORT??? They continue to be one of the most viewed films of the entire generation.
Thank you Scott for you great modesty and for your brilliant way used to rebring under the " Sun Light" these all talented actors. We need all this wonderful work do it by you here on this podcast but as well in your film career 🙏🏼👍👏👏👏👏
I was wondering about the Tong Po as himself credit in Kickboxer. Thanks for asking it!
Happy to hear Mr. Quissi encouraging parents to start children young. I started my son (Jean-Claude) in martial arts two years ago (he’s almost 9) and I’ll be starting my younger son soon.
The most complete fighter in the world!
He's a very interesting character! I've watched every part in its entirety! I'd never do that normally 😅
I have 100% Respect for Mohammed Quissi. Children R never too young to teach. Mohammed has a Wealth of knowledge & experience in which we all can benefit from 😊❤😊❤✊️👊🤛🤜
This is the very reason you have to choose your friends very carefully it’s very hard as it takes time too figure someone out if you can’t find a good friend better to keep yourself to yourself
Please make interview with Robin Shou and Jason Scott Lee
thanks scott. mohammed does look like arnold vosloo (from mummy 1999), first thought it was him...
Makes me wonder why they didnt cast him
The best actor in the movie kick boxer fabulous
The problem with some charismatic people is that some are charismatic in real life but that essence sometimes is not their screen persona. Tong po seems like an awesome fun guy in real life. Other actors are charismatic only on screen and boring in real life.
Scott, I'm telling you, brother; You would be perfect to do the remakes of Missing in Action (1, 2, 3). But updated.
More violent. Taken to the level of that work of art that is Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning.
Ele interpretou o lutador Ruan Paredes em BloodSport de 1988.
Lion heart is by far the best vandamn movie in my opinion
I remember after having watched bloodsport so many times, I then watched Cyborg. Yea it wasnt perfect, frankly a bit horrifying, but still ok. But when Lionheart (what was known as AWOL) came out, I was a super-fan from then onwards.
I am impressed with that how much Mohammed Qissi made for career of Van Damme! And how interesting to listen that. Thank you, Mr. Adkins, for that.
I remember that in those times when I was very young, and didn't know English, I was wondering, who is the actor, who played Tong Po. And when I red in titles: Tong Po - Himself, I just thought that Himself is a Thai name :)) And I was looking the guy with that name in titles in next movies. After that, when I learned English, I understood that himself means played by the actor himself, I was looking the man named Tong Po in other movies, but still couldn't. So, it was double mystery for me
Scott, the actual REAL reason why Michel Quissi's name was not in the credits and was only listed as "Tong Po" was simply to hide the fact that his character was not actually played by a Thai person and they didnt want the audience to be put off by it or be offended by a Moroccan person pretending to be Thai
Hell they didnt even wanna call him Mohammed Qissi. They went with a whitey name Michel Qissi for most of his film career
That and maybe they didn't want to pay him...
Quissi was more of a mentor to Van Damme than an actor him self maybe?
@@christophermorris663 he still acted and therefore should have been paif and credited.
That movie released in 1989. It wouldn't have been nearly as big of a deal as you suggest.
epic
Ninja 3 with Tong Po when? Somebody call Isaac.
I loved kickboxer 2
Tong po 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Would love to see you 2 work togheter in a movie franchise, you guys could totally make a new nartial arts movie IP togheter.
Super l'interview Scott! ça serait cool d'avoir celle de JCVD, ainsi que celle de Bolo Yeung qui a eu un sacré parcours de vie à raconter!
Bolo ! Je valide à 100% !
Honestly i love Kickboxer 2, i really do, thought it was good, yeah they could have done a few things a bit better but i loved it.
“Tong Po is real! He’s actually himself!” Scott Adkins back in the 80s
😆😆😆
Naksu kaw❤😊
and Tony Jaa i never seen somebody who is kicking so hard and fast
Had no idea he worked on lion heart / Leon
