    If Fromsoft can't find time to add similar animations to other weapon classes, they can allow other classes to cancel the R2s into backstep since the follow-up to these flip animations are similar to the backstep follow-ups. It will still be preferable to have unique similar animations to all other classes of weapons, however, we will take canceling R2s into backsteps over not having anything at all any day.
    p.s. Elden Ring is Ashes clone confirmed! lol

      I dont get what your saying. Is there a specific backstep attack? Because I don't see one. I just see that I can do a normal attack out of a backstep. While you're backstepping, hit attack, and you should do something similar to your running attacks. One of the things I love that I’m noticing is that Elden Ring is encouraging you to fight LIKE a boss, with the new mechanics encouraging a variation of light and heavy attacks, more use of jumping and jump attacks in combat, the counter system, and now a fucking feint backflip, as if they couldn’t be any more clear. No more Chosen Ones spamming R1 attacks. I’m excited to see someone master the game’s mechanics and move around like the Abyss Watchers.

    It's fairly mid, but the weapon that gets the most out of this tech by a longshot is Frozen Needle, the rapier you get from beating a really obnoxious boss under an illusory floor in Kingsrealm Ruins. It shoots a *zero FP ranged attack* when you use the R2 at a slightly longer range than the Moonveil WA. If you feint out of charging an R2 with Frozen Needle, it _still fires the projectile_ for uncharged R2 damage.

    • @ghostderazgriz
      @ghostderazgriz 2 года назад +1

      Repeated faint strikes also fire needles faster than uncharged R2 attacks. This could be useful against foes that have short ranged strikes or slow heavy strikes, but not so effective against casters or long range ashes of war.

      FromSoftware does not usually mention mechanics like these. Sure, they'll mention kicking in Dark Souls, but they won't tell you that curved swords and thrusting swords don't do that in the tutorial messages, let alone from other NPCs. No mention of grab escapes, Lloyd's Talismans to incap mimics. Those are just the ones off the top of my head.

    Amazing! Just wanted to say, you could also feint/cancel attacks in Sekiro. In fights against other sword wielding enemies like Genichiro and Owl, you could cancel your attacks within a certain time by pressing the block/parry button. The enemy would react to the attack and block as well. It didn't really offer any advantage though. Or at least none that I could exploit

    It seems the backflip only works on curved swords (curved greatswords not included). However, I noticed Thrusting Sword/Heavy Thrusting Sword weapons have a feint animation as well. It’s essentially a thrust and a backwards dodge combined. It is distinctly different from every other weapon where the animation plays out and then you dodge (regardless how early you press circle/B)

      @@__bepis____bepis__308 They'll almost certainly do more stamina damage - such was the case in DS3 - the question is "will it be enough?"
      On the bright side, the old tactic of circle-stabbing doesn't seem to work in PvP. So the only payoff to turtling behind a shield forever is not taking damage.
      But any shield-penetrating AoW or capabilities will be important if you ever hope to squeeze a kill out of a frantically turtling scrub.

    To be honest I really love the improvements to the combat system in Elden Ring. Pretty much the only main complaints now are backstabs (since they're almost always janky) and the delayed netcode compared to other pvp multiplayer games. Otherwise; the jump attacks are great, ashes of war leave tons of variety in an already large weapon sandbox, stance breaking spices up gameplay a lot and encourages more heavy attacks rather than R1 spam or parry baiting, and this "feint" mechanic makes players finally feel more agile and can be used in some mind games possibly.

    • @boog7305
      @boog7305 2 года назад

      I do as well but my complaint would be a lot of my hits no registering on bosses or big enemies. I'll go to hit someone and it will be a clear hit but it won't register sometimes. I imagine it's just bosses being at a certain point in their animation where the hit can't register but ots sucks and really annoys me. Also sometimes my jump attack doesn't register and never does the attack part, he just jumps 😂

    I was gonna say didn't past games have 2 types of feint, but you addressed one of those at the beginning of the video. Some weapons (don't remember which ones) in 3 also had attacks you could cancel either during the recovery animation (as you normally would) or in the first part of the attack before the active frames but after your character started moving, allowing you to bait parries in pvp (or have an oh shit moment and cancel an attack against a boss). It was like the only mechanical change in Dark Souls 3 that I felt was a good move apart from stance change style weapon arts.
