I love this phone so much. used pixel 7 and it broke now I am back to pixel 5 and I prefer it! Size and weight is a big part of it. simple straight and love sorta sage.
I just 'downgraded' from a Pixel 8 to a refurbished P5. I understand that it might seem like a weird switch but I'm actually pretty happy with it. I like the fingerprint sensor, the compact size, and how minimal the camera bump is. Obviously when it comes to cameras, the 8 does better with stuff like low light, zooming, and video quality. But if I'm honest I prefer the way images come out of the Pixel 5's camera. I think that's mainly because of the color science. Overall, I think it still holds up really well in 2024 but there are definitely better phones you can buy.
Im tempted to return to the P5 after leaving the Pixel ecosystem in 2020. I learned about lineageOS recently and i think that has made old phones more convincing. Especially old phones with great backings. The p5 is well built and can survive a drop or 2. Potentially i can buy a used one today and get 4yrs out of it...
Actually thinking about doing that too 👀 ! I have to return my Pixel 7 Pro this month (got a 2 year "bring it back" contract with my carrier). Unless there's an amazing Black Friday deal for a Pixel 9 Pro I'm thinking about switching back to my previous Pixel 5 that has been getting dust in my drawer. I absolutely need to change my laptop for work so I prefer to save this way.
@HugoLacchiaOfficial it's been great but for some reason my charging port is jacked up and doesn't work half the time. I tried cleaning it and nothing happened so I usually wireless charge. Might buy a new phone soon to be honest
@JuliusMoore-co5hl tbh I'm thinking of buying a sealed brand new pixel 5 i found on ebay for $200 because my battery health is also 78% so I also would need a new battery.
It's kind of weird that Pixel 5A will get one more year of additional update compared to Pixel 5 which is a flagship phone but with the same processor and lesser RAM is getting another year of update compared to a flagship phone. Only Google can do this.
I'm assuming it has to do with the fact that the A-series pixels usually release a few months after the regular pixels. But yeah it is a little stupid because we all know the Pixel 5 can handle more updates.
It's based on release date. Pretty much all the a version get an extra year of update because they tend to be released a year after the regluar pixel line.
I am watching this from my Pixel 4a 5G, which has the same internals and camera. This happens to be my second Pixel. I could have gotten a 6a, but honestly, the snap dragon processor is a beast and the cameras are just flawless and fast.
Moved from pixel 3a xl to pixel 5, one thing i love from this phone is the size, sure, watching movies and videos can be unsatisfying for some people. The speaker is actually not bad, it's loud enough to not notice the quality of the front screen speaker. I think it would be one of the best of small size phones everyone could get if they brought better chip for this phone.
Im using the pixel 5 for more than a year now and it is nice and good, Features and camera is more than enough for daily life task, Nice size for me and im still not thinking to switching this device, Only disadvantage is battery and thats it
I've had a 4A since new in late 2020. The unlimited photos and videos uploaded to Google photos is insane, and 5 was the last model to have that feature. Yes, the 4A has it too. Mine isn't the 5G version. I have a "like new" 5 on the way because my 4A USB c port is pretty worn out, and the battery i replaced 2 years ago is already badly degraded. The unlimited photo/video storage is why I'm not going to anything else. I travel a lot and take a fair amount of photos, and the automatic backup and automated deletion from the device means the phone never fills up.
I never changed phones much. My first smartphone was a Samsung Note 2, which i only replaced when it fell and the screen stopped working. Replaced it with a Pixel 2, then upgraded when the Pixel 5 came out. I like my 5 a lot, but I'm nervous about the no security updates and am starting to get wishy washy about replacing it even though it works fine....
Security patches, do they matter? A good example is someone like Linus from LTT, a valuable individual that would use a Note9 that's way out of Security patches, and yet his company is not compromised because of that.
Since Pixel 3 Google has opted for a flicker sensor. Never really understood the use case for it and Google also never advertised or mentioned in their forums or anywhere what is the purpose and what is the benefit of using that sensor does it help in photography light level nothing is mentioned online It is weird.
I came from Pixel 4 to Pixel 5 The major differences Pixel 5 gets hot or warm easily when I'm doing navigation in the car or using outside under the sun compared to Pixel 4. Secondly is the haptics on the pixel 4 where far superior compared to Pixel 5 it feels mushy. Pixel 5 actually has much better battery life compared to Pixel 4 because of the increase battery size and mid-range specs because Pixel 4 used to routinely die in the mid-afternoon at least this phone lasts whole day. And the reason Google went with the earphone behind the glass, they wanted to have a symmetrical bezel all around. Which they also achieved in Pixel 9 as well but still they gave a proper earphone speaker.
Is the Pixel 5a bricking an issue with poor soldering getting loose with thermal stress or non optimized flash memory firmware that cause spontaneous storage crash? Still unresolved to this day?
It's possible, but I've heard cases where the nand fails. I don't know the fix, I just know that if you search a product and the search results are almost all negative, stay away
Google phones are not sold locally in my country I purchased Pixel 5 from one of the local shops here which was imported from US. I got it for around $90 for used phone The only caveat being the battery is capacity when I checked through the app it says 62%. The shopkeeper said he can change the battery and install a first party battery just from China It will cost around $10 do you think it's worth the investment.
The Pixel 5 will not receive an update to Android 15, even though it was released in 2020, while the iPhone XR received an update to iOS 18, even though it was released in 2018.
lol.. every time I hear “optimisation” and “Google” in the same sentence, I chuckle. This idea is why I once bought nexus 4. Most regrettable decision.
i wish repairs were cheaper - my screen is broken and i want to keep my phone but... like whaaa?! 100+ bucks wish i took better care also love unlimited photo storage- no more feeling like I'll have to pay 2.99 for the rest of my life
You're talking about the best deal. I'm talking about the phone. I read and Article this year, talking about all the device issues every phone has had since the Pixel 5, the 6, the 6A, the 7A, they all overheat and the new camera on the back is garbage. Besides, all those new pixel and Samsung phones are just super spied devices. I have a Pixel 5. I drop it a lot. It's fine. The camera is good. The AI in it is minimal, except for Gemini, which I don't use. All those other pixels suck. This phone is actually good. Samsung's better, but this phone is actually the best I've used for a long time. And I don't want another device. Those new pixel devices, the 6 and 7 8 The overheat and they have that ugly camera at the back. It's not even good. Samsung's still way better. Always the better phone, but the Pixel 5 is the best Pixel on my opinion. Yet People still love their 2XL, 3XL, the 4. It's not fair that we're not getting the new software updates just because they want more money.
I've been using the Pixel 9 and 9 Pro XL and it makes me want to buy the Pixel 9 Pro. The Palm Phone size is an exaggeration, the iPhone mini is good, but I really don't get why companies give up with small flagships, but will be fine with the large expensive but not the best (iPhone 15 Plus and S24 Plus's of the world) continue to tank sales. Still hoping for a Zenfone 11 in the normal "compact size"

Best pixel ever made, if google released the same smartphone with upgraded components i would buy it again.
I would too! Google should do an SE phone with this design and put the latest tensor and bigger battery.

Pixel 5 users here. Personally I think yes, it is still worth it.
Hi. How's the battery?
I love it. Small form factor and matt finish. A smart phone that wasn't trying to copy Apple.
The perfect review I've been looking for months.
It's not a perfect phone, but that's probably what makes me like it more.
Just bought mine last week in Amazon here in Saudi Arabia 😊 This phone is simply elegant daily driver. ❤

I had 2 Pixel 4's in a row that had a known screen issue so I upgraded to the Pixel 5 in 2022 and it was reliable, compact and fine for daily use. 🙂
Rocking a used pixel 5 to compliment my s24 ultra. Loving the form factor
This one or samsung s20??

my pixel 5 getting slow and choppy in 2024 :( intentionally?
Pixel 5 vs 4xl which feels more premium in the hand ?? Somebody please tell me
