Building A Magnetic Saw Guide Using Wood and Rare-Earth Magnets

- I finally get around to building my own Magnetic Saw Guide after the Neodymium magnets I ordered online finally arrived.
As I am a beginner, I don't have the muscle memory or the skill to "saw straight" freehanded or even with just my thumb--regardless of my above average level of patience.
I learned about making this when I was browsing for videos on RUclips that would help me use my saw better, and while there are many tutorial videos that you can find which will show you how to build these things step-by-step--my video, however, is simply a documentation of my build after evaluating ideas and combining the aspects that I liked.
I also get to use Danish Oil for the first time, which is a natural, and time-intensive, but worthwhile method in protecting the wood--which will also, hopefully, protect my Japanese razor saws which are some of the prized tools in my possession, and which I absolutely love using.
I have 3 objectives for this build:
1. Cut a VERY squared-off piece of wood to act as the main base/body of my saw guide for the really strong rare-earth magnets to get bedded in.
2. Use a natural oil finish to protect the wood and would also be a good finish to protect my Japanese saw whenever I use my MSG (magnetic saw guide).
3. Make a very useful woodworking tool that will last me a very long time.
I am an amateur DIY builder who is just starting to learn the fine craft of woodworking, as well as the precise and unforgiving art of Japanese joinery.
I am determined to learn and succeed, so thank you for joining me in this journey.
I hope you enjoy the videos I will be sharing with you.

Great jig! Liked how meticulous you were, keep up the good work!
Thank you for watching my video. The woodworking community is so supportive and this project was inspired by it. ☺️
I was disappointed that you did not include a fence - at first. Now I am considering doing that as well. After all, I have many squares already. Why not use one of them? Thanks for making me think differently about this jig.
I actually wanted to try using one of the readily available fences that are available online, but I wanted to try this method that I saw a friend do. After doing it this way though, I realize that I am still pretty shite with a hand saw and need all the extra jigs that I can use to help straighten my cuts. 😂😂😂
Thank you for watching my video, and for your kind words. I am a beginner, and your words motivate me to improve even more. 😊
Just watched a few of these 'make your magnetic jig' vids, and can't help agreeing with you. The actual build is excellent, but the lack of a built-in fence makes it less useful. Of course, the ability to use it on multiple angles that can be set as needed is a positive. That said, I'm absolutely going to have a go at making a few of these - with and without fence - as they make cutting clean, square and plumb an absolute doddle in situations where using messy power tools is not an option.
Actually I prefer subtitles as I always view videos in mute. Great job.
Nice work Paulo . Though I agree a fence is better atleast for me.I made one just recently nice and square quite small.I will make some at several angles I require. need to get the magnets in.What wood was it you cut? It looks like a sapele?
