I hope everyone agrees that LA is a better fit for them so i can have SD to myself! LA is fun to visit but SD is a great place to live. (LA is basically a dirtier version of SD)
SD is actually a better place to visit, in my opinion. Better beaches with less people, Coronado, glider ports, ships, less dirty and dangerous downtown, it's a tropical paradise instead of a dirty crime center like LA
I think if you're under 35 then LA but if you're older and want access to everything, clean beaches, friendly people a lot less traffic then San Diego is for you.
I love Southern California, and General both cities! But I’m more prone to San Diego because I think it’s more of a beautiful city for one thing. And I just love the San Diego lifestyle a little bit better than the bigger city of Los Angeles. That’s just my opinion. Lol.
Note: In San Diego, don’t go to more southern beaches because sometimes, the runoff from a river in Mexico pollutes the water and makes it so you can’t get in the water. This includes Coronado Beach. Sometimes they’ll be signs on the beach telling you not to get in the water. Just take note of that if you’re visiting SD.
Also, don’t to to Tijuana rn cuz it’s really dangerous. People that live there and come to the US for work say that they don’t go outside anymore because of the cartels.
This was definitely one of my favorite videos.. appreciate and embrace Nature.. sometimes we can't see what's in front of us and we take it for granted..thank you.
San Diego is my dream home, i love this city. There are over 70 public golf courses, hiking and biking everywhere and the zoo is world class. Business wise yes LA is king, but for quality-of-life SD is the place for me. You can walk from one end of the city to the other in a half hour, no one walks in LA. Plus, the LA traffic is the showstopper for me. LA is a great world class city and San Diego is heaven on earth. See you outside...
Michael, I was born and raised here in LA and only vacationed in San Diego. I’ve explored San Diego, but never really explored San Diego like you have. After watching your awesome channel. I see that I’ve missed out on the better things both in LA and SD.
Thank you for the video! LA & SD are always compared & both cities are special in their own way. I'm a born & bred resident from the Dallas/Fort Worth area in Texas & have been to all 3 major cities in California. In my honest opinion, San Diego is wayyy better (most recent trip Nov 2022). It's like a cleaner, organized LA with far more water surrounding it. People are much friendlier, far less traffic, the vibes are def more chill, & it's the quintessential California experience. Like I know LA one can get better Asian food, burgers, fine dining, & varieties of cuisine better than SD, SD has pretty good options as well but on a much smaller scale. LA just has more when it comes to music, movies, entertainment, culture, shopping, museums etc. It's what they do best. SD excels best in beaches, nature, easy going lifestyle, zoos, relaxing, sightseeing, eating the best Mexican food & drinking the best beer. San Diego def should be talked about more since San Francisco & Los Angeles get all the attention!! Best city in California! Even my girlfriend who is from the East Coast who finally visited California in February took recs from me as the first city to visit in California has to be San Diego. 😄🙌🏾
I’ve lived all over San Diego from the beaches to the valley of El Cajon. I currently live in Pacific Beach but I like La Jolla in Mission Beach in Ocean Beach as well! It’s just a lifestyle there. I can’t quite explain it, but I love it!
I've lived in both cities. Hillcrest (the gay-berhood) in SanDiego and West Hollywood in LA. Both were an adventure! But, I actually liked SanDiego more. 👍😉
I was born and raised in LA and in my humble opinion, it is definitely the best place on earth to live and thrive in, as a single and career driven individual. HOWEVER, San Diego is a "city" where my NY husband and I intend to raise our Toddler son, because it is a safer community for him to grow and thrive in.
NYC traffic is horrific in my opinion. It's way too many people. La seems to have bad traffic because alot of people seem to drive slow but it seems like you can switch lanes and jump in front of stoned slow drivers. NYC that's impossible. You'll be bumper to bumper 21/7
The most amount of people I saw purposely go to see sunset was in Portugal, Cabo de San Vicente. Highly recommend to visit if you love such activities. They literally drive there just for sunset. And then sit on a cliff and watch. 8:46
Fun video. Recently got a place in Carlsbad, CA. It takes me exactly the same amount of time to get to San Diego Airport as to get to the Southern part of Orange County (San Clemente). Between Oceanside, Encinitas, and Carlsbad, I feel like I can get to a not so crowded beach or a great food anytime and I have at least 5 good options of either I can get to in under 25 minutes. Also, there is a lot more to San Diego than the beach. There are tons of things to do inland and it is not a mass of humanity and their vehicles there. Curious what you think of Northern San Diego Country and Southern Orange County. I feel like people who live in either of those areas have the best of both worlds.
Thanks for another great video!! Loved the comparisons of SD to LA. Hope you can head back to SD when you need a little quality of life time. Welcome home!!🍎💚
We just got back from a 10-day trip visiting both Los Angeles and San Diego. Our experience was the exact opposite. We found LA people to be so much more friendly and nice, and we felt like San Diego people were a bit more stuck up. Both amazing places though!
@DryWall... talk about stuck up! Do you really think the diversity has something to do with how clean it is? There are nice AND diverse neighborhoods in LA that are very clean! I'm sure if I go to Appalachia I can find some pretty dirty not so diverse neighborhoods.... People just love having a punching bag, the bigger the better--gets their blood flowing I guess.
I am from Baja California Sur, México . Souther from San Diego all the way down. I lived in the East coast in Pennsylvania for 6 years. I was depressed and I missed the beach so much . Now I am back in my hometown for vacation before moving to California. I think San Diego would be best for my personality and lifestyle culture . Which area in San Diego would you recommend me live for the first time?
Great video and agree. If you're a single person that doesn't work in entertainment and aren't worried about appearing cool based on where you live, there isn't an absolute clear winner. Big pluses for LA but also bigger negatives. If you have a family and can find a good job in San Diego, then it's probably better overall. Good point about the downtowns too. San Diego's is built on a bay close to the ocean, looks a lot nicer and active. DTLA is far from the ocean, a lot of it looks and feels run down and abandoned, many just have no reason to go there and don't. As for the poll results, I think a factor could be that there are way more people in LA and many people will side with their city over another, some may have never even been to San Diego. Like polling people on New York City versus Chicago.
You hit it on the nail about quality of life in San Diego. Malibu is nice as well. You might like this little part of California called Port Hueneme CA. Not too far from Malibu.
Thank you. Few questions though - 1) How is the water temperature on the beaches during summers? If the temp is 75-80 then i wonder whether it will be cold to get in the water. 2) Can you please suggest a few good public elementary schools? Thanks
Please keep these coming! I appreciate this perspective from the non influencer side. Purely for nature and lifestyle I’ve considered leaving Texas for California. Shocker lol
I actually think Orange County is the best happy medium. Lots of nature, great beaches, hikes, peaceful, close to LA has all the food and entertainment but far enough from LA to escape all the craziness. Also alot closer to SD if you want to do a day trip. OC is where its at.
OC has the best Vietnamese food scene and it’s the only thing keeping me here. But grid checker board system for roads makes it so monotonous to drive and just to get on the 405 or 22 takes forever, thus to travel 2-3 miles it would take you 15 minutes in local roads bc of traffic lights. In San Diego, it would only take me 10 minutes to travel 15 miles 😂 . In LA, it took me 3 hours and 40 minutes to go 45ish miles once 😂
San Diego for the win! The food has become top notch, and there is so much to do-including concerts, plays, comedy shows, and outdoor events. Plus ,you can breathe here!
Great comparison. The Navy sent me to SD (1987-1991) and I fell in love with it. When I got out, I returned to the Midwest where I'm from originally. But SD kept calling me back, so I moved back in 2012 and plan to stay. I do agree with your comment about LA's location having better access to the rest of the state. I *loathe* driving across LA to get to places like Yosemite from SD. Angelinos spend sooo much time in their cars stuck in traffic they lose time for other activities. Not for me. While neither city has a world-class public transit system, I believe it's easier to get around in SD using the trolley (light rail) and buses.
I've lived in both counties. There are pockets of "hustle" and pockets of "laid-back" in each place. For example, people in North county San Diego would describe downtown San Diego using the same descriptors used in this video for Los Angeles. That being said, I'm definitely team San Diego. But I do live in North County, so that I can occasionally visit my old haunts in LA/OC more easily :)
Just a thought...:) LA is so close to Orange County which has beaches that may even rival San Diego(Laguna, Newport, HB). In my opinion, LA is the best for City Life, Orange County is the best for the beaches, and San Diego is beautiful. Overall I prefer LA...easier access!
I realized so much about myself in this video. Lol. I've always loved san diego, and I've never liked LA and don't see the appeal other than a few things "scenic" areas. After seeing this I realized I'm one of the "more into nature" and don't even care for social media. So I guess that's why LA never appealed me 😆 too touristy and gimmicky. The central location is pretty neat. I feel living in San Diego I'm so far away from everyone, which in a way was appealing to me when I moved here lol
Can't speak for San Diego due to my limited time down there. Always loved LA vibes! If you want to go to the clubs, WH is great fun. I've always loved the trails of the Pacific Palisades and beaches of Malibu - just SO pretty with plenty of flavor. Even the inland canyons of Malibu are great get away hikes! Maybe I'm biased to LA because I have fun relatives there...?! San Diego has plenty of California flavor, but as a tourist to your beautiful cities - just not feelin' the vibes down there like I always do in LA.
You really haven't been anywhere then for comparisons?? Hillcrest in San Diego, is probably a more gayer gayborhood than WeHo. Their clubs and attractions are much better than WH. Pride in Hillcrest is a uniter in SD. With even the arm forces (military) participating in the parade. SD is much less pretentious. With the quality of persons in SD being less scary than LA.
@@MichaelMartello And what can possibly be more beautiful than hiking The Enchanted Santa Monica Mountains? We need to go hiking the next time I'm in your beautiful Los Angeles!
I've lived in SD for nearly 20 years and can say that SD is a great place and has nowhere near as many homeless as LA, outside of downtown San Diego. That being said SD is now the most expensive city in the entire country. I'm moving up to LA for work purposes. I'm not really a fan of California as a whole if I'm honest, but until I get where I want to be, I gotta be in this state.
I've visited Northern California, lived in the Bay area, lived in LA, and visited SD. In LA the pace is fast and impersonal like NYC. If you are very extroverted, into movies, and always out you will meet people, but if you are not extremely extroverted, you will find it much easier to meet people in SD and NorCal.
Like everyone's opinions on both 👍 I'd recommend checking out inland San Diego neighborhoods if you're here like North Park, City Heights, Barrio Logan, and Clairemont. Julian is worth the drive too 🏕️That's where all the trends and culture is and tourists never notice them.
Great Video. I currently live in San Diego, downtown little Italy. San Diego is slower paced, less diverse. I plan to move to LA within the next year. Your video was spot on.
Less diverse and more dangerous if you are “diverse”. Over a hundred thousand people moved out of SD in the last 1.5 years. Not all of the moveout had to do with economy, business opportunities, nor weather. It has to do with safety and survival. I’m sure I will be “downvoted”
Totally agree with you on Hollywood Blvd. Looks like you had a great trip. I like both SD and LA. LA has a slight edge for me. There is a large variety of things to do. Being somewhat of an Introvert//extrovert. There are a lot of things to do alone, yet still be around people. Like you, I am beach dude. Lots of beach activities and great hiking.
SD rocks!!! we have Del Mar, Solana Beach, Encinitas, Leucadia, Carlsbad, Oceanside. The traffic in LA sucks so bad, don't even drive on the freeway. Take the streets instead. I would classify LA for the younger generation 16-35 and SD for the older generation 36-70.
LA is great for people who like entertainment and nightlife, and it is more diverse and has much more culture overall. It is a huge city with tons of traffic. I love LA and all the amazing things it has to offer. San Diego is great for people who love the outdoors and beaches, and enjoy a slower pace and healthier lifestyle. SD is much smaller than LA and I think the overall quality of life is better in San Diego. That's why I ended up in San Diego after growing up in the LA area. I still go up to LA almost every weekend to see my friends.
Born ang raised in SD, lived all over over 22 years (downtown, Mission Valley, Lemon Grove, Mira Mesa, pacific beach). I’ve now been in LA county for 11 years (El Segundo, Mar Vista, Hermosa, Westwood, Redondo, Palms/Culver). I have to say, something about LA is just different. The sports culture and overall connection with the city is hard to describe. I also like the iconic neighborhoods to hang in like Santa Monica, Manhattan Beach, Los Félix, Malibu, etc. I think when I’m in my 40s and up (32 now), SD is much more chill and likely better. But for now LA just has much more to do because even being by the beach gets boring after a while and almost all of the cool SD cities are on the coast
I disagree on the "people". L.A. has more transplants than San Diego, who are generally more outgoing and interested in starting up conversation. Lots of friendly people in L.A. Aside from that, love the video!
SD all day. SD ruined LA for me. East Coaster that’s been Cali dreaming since forever. Work granted me my first opportunity to visit California. I’ve been to SD 3 times for work and it’s now my favorite city. Just came back from a Cali vacation trip and experienced LA for the first time. The time spent in my “dream” city of LA didn’t “hit” like I thought it would. Actually spent my time there wishing I was in San Diego. Don’t get me wrong LA is great but SD is more my vibe.
LA for me. It's much larger and has way more options. If downtown LA is not for you, there's downtown Long Beach. For a more laid back vibe, we got the OC and Malibu. We also have many ethnic communities to explore: Lil Tokyo, Chinatown, Thai Town, Lil Arabia, Lil Saigon, Ktown, Cambodia town and Little India
Michael's comments about Hollywood Blvd & downtown LA are not uncommon. In a way, however, both parts of LA are actually better today than they were yrs ago. Or back when some people claim that LA was a better place. Same thing is also true of NYC's Times Sq of today (more Disneyfied) versus its X-rated-porno-store past. LA's downtown is grimier than SD's downtown is, but it has more social or cultural, historic complexity than SD does. But different strokes for different folks.
Obviously you've never fully explored San Diego we have a little sight on we have little Manila in national city we got a bunch of different Mexican areas of course we have little Italy we have little Iraq in El cajon we have little Samoa and ocean side we have a Korean district in Clermont we have a little Guam in imperial and we have Portuguese bend and now we have a little Somalia and a pretty big Haitian community
I had a coworker point out a dent on my car on the passenger side, and I replied "Oh, that sucks, oh well." . Then he asked me if I grew up in San Diego. So I get it. We're certainly more laid back. I also probably use the phrase "No Worries" more than anyone outside of Australia.
I lived in LA most of my life and it's true, there's definitely a lot more to to. I personally prefer San Diego as the laid back and chill culture appeals to me since my profession is stressful.
Besides Oahu, there is no other place I’d rather live than in San Diego county. I lived there for 31 years but 8 years ago I married a woman from the central valley and relocated there. I go back once in a while but I miss San Diego badly. My wife won’t move to San Diego county. Has her family here. Nothing in the Central Valley compares to San Diego. But nothing in San Diego compares to being close to Yosemite national park and sequoia national forest like where I am now.
los angles is almost the same but San Diego is one of the most expensive housing markets in the united states . Ever since covid when they started letting people work from home we had so many people from san Francisco , east coast etc moving out to SD 😩 Part of the home price increases.
I lived in LA for a little while, just long enough. I always wanted to live in San Diego and I used to go there at least every couple of years. I haven’t been since Covid, but the last time I was in San Diego I was so disappointed that all of the beaches were paid parking. It used to be so beautiful and free. And the homeless situation was getting out of control. I miss California and I always thought I would end up there. I was born and grew up in Miami, and that Is no longer at all desirable to me. I just wish California would fix its politics, but right now, the whole country is in the same crisis mode. Now I live in the treasure Coast Florida, and it seems that everybody’s moving here from everywhere and although it was nice, it is becoming expensive and busy and pushy.
It’s the same difference with the SFO Bay Area and the Greater Sacramento Region. Just exchange Tech and Finance vs Entertainment as the Bay Area’s main industry, while Sacramento is more laid back, nature loving, farm to fork.
I grew up in San Francisco and then spent most my life in Sacramento. I absolutely hated it because I saw no nature 😂 which is why now I live in San Diego, where its full of scenic areas.
You don’t know what’s happening in San Diego. A lot of us moved out despite the beautiful coastlines and safe neighborhoods (but only for some). It had nothing to do with the economy nor work life. Many of us now live in Los Angeles.
I lived in San Diego for 15 years. In the early 90s I worked in LA 3-4 Days a week So I would commute by train. I absolutely loved that part of it. At first, I was completely enamored By Los Angeles. It also helped that I worked for A very high profile person And a lot of our clients were very famous people so we traveled a lot and it was great fun. As long as we were traveling. For a while though, I was traveling last and spending more and more time in Los Angeles and the thrill began to fade. It was the riots of 1992 That snapped me back into reality about The enormity of the city in which I spent most of my week! San Diego with much more my kinda city.
I hope everyone agrees that LA is a better fit for them so i can have SD to myself! LA is fun to visit but SD is a great place to live. (LA is basically a dirtier version of SD)
Exactly
I wish it was like that too many transplants coming down here. We should tax them lamo.
fr
I’m from Miami and I visited San Diego in October. I want to move to San Diego like really bad. I fell in love with that place
Put it this way , LA is a better city to visit , but SD is a better city to live .
Mexicans run California SD in LA but they won't run the country Ron DeSantis 2024 2028🩸
SD is actually a better place to visit, in my opinion. Better beaches with less people, Coronado, glider ports, ships, less dirty and dangerous downtown, it's a tropical paradise instead of a dirty crime center like LA

Absolutely
I think if you're under 35 then LA but if you're older and want access to everything, clean beaches, friendly people a lot less traffic then San Diego is for you.
Ok I'll do that matter of fact San Diego seems a lot better than LA.
💯. I'm 55 and San Diego will be a better choice for me. Thank you
the traffic is still terrible
I’ve lived in both. Live in LA now. I really miss SD, still my favorite place I’ve ever lived
Same. I'm trying to make my way back to live in SD.

Only after the rainy season Feb-April only in IB and Coronado.

East Coaster here, but I lived a year in Long Beach and I have to say, the people in Long Beach were the friendliest I've ever met anywhere in LA.
Both cities are nice and interesting. I love both of them
Me too ...
This was definitely one of my favorite videos.. appreciate and embrace Nature.. sometimes we can't see what's in front of us and we take it for granted..thank you.

Definitely will be! ☀️
So glad to be featured in a video! Congrats on 8k 😁
Yay! Thank you!
What you said about sunsets reminds me of the end of the music video for "Higher" by P.O.D. (from SD). :)
We just got back from a 10-day trip visiting both Los Angeles and San Diego. Our experience was the exact opposite. We found LA people to be so much more friendly and nice, and we felt like San Diego people were a bit more stuck up. Both amazing places though!
Both cities have become "divrse" "multiculttrl" garbage dumps. Not the California I grew up in during the 7 0s and 8 0s.

Purely for nature and lifestyle I’ve considered leaving Texas for California.
Shocker lol
Why would it be a shocker? Outside of LA and center core SF California is WAY nicer than Texas. People move to Texas cause it’s cheap.

La jolla is incredible, I live in AZ though
Some great points
Just a thought...:) LA is so close to Orange County which has beaches that may even rival San Diego(Laguna, Newport, HB). In my opinion, LA is the best for City Life, Orange County is the best for the beaches, and San Diego is beautiful. Overall I prefer LA...easier access!
Love OC! So beautiful.
Mexicans run California SD in LA but they won't run the country Ron DeSantis 2024 2028🩸
Thinking about moving my family to SoCal only been to LA but would love to check out San Diego thank you so much for the content I love it …
Appreciate your work ❤️. But we need Forest lawn cemetery vlog please ❤️.
Michael, the west side of Point Dume usually has plenty of Sea Lions hangin' out on the rocks below... 😃
Ooo you’re right! Forgot about them 😁
@@MichaelMartello And what can possibly be more beautiful than hiking The Enchanted Santa Monica Mountains? We need to go hiking the next time I'm in your beautiful Los Angeles!
HANDS DOWN…Ill take San Diego in a heartbeat! I just love the chill vibes to SD. LA is comparable to NYC. The hustle of the city
LA is nothing like NYC 😂😂😂 don’t ever disrespect NYC like that ever again
☝🏾 That beach doesn't always smell in San Diego....
the pacific is really freezing up in the bay area. sd and la its a bit warmer but still cold though
How are the restaurants in San Diego? Are they first rate like in LA?
Julian is worth the drive too 🏕️That's where all the trends and culture is and tourists never notice them.
lol clairemont
@@phillymopwater what it's a classy hood 😂
Great video! As Italian tourist that visited both cities, I do prefer LA. Much more options. Most, I like you 😊 , you’re cute !!
The geese at 10:19 are nicer because they’re Canadian! 😂 (Canada Goose)
make a video about about Santa Barbara CA 😊
how do i as an 18 year old australian have to do to move to los angeles?
You missed so many of the gems 💎 of SD. Carlsbad, Encinitas, Del Mar.
@@KowanJane lotta bros in sd. i do love it tho
The water contamination from Mexico is a big problem in SD.
Only in Imperial Beach and occasionally it creeps up to Coronado.
Does it affect drinking water? Thanks
@@jomymatthews no, the drinking water comes from the Colorado river. It’s not the best but it’s not contaminated from Mexico
SD rocks!!! we have Del Mar, Solana Beach, Encinitas, Leucadia, Carlsbad, Oceanside. The traffic in LA sucks so bad, don't even drive on the freeway. Take the streets instead. I would classify LA for the younger generation 16-35 and SD for the older generation 36-70.
As much as I wanted to move out of SD to experience new things. I high tailed it out of LA once I finished college LOL
I’d love to watch a video of you in Lisbon and the coast
LA is great for people who like entertainment and nightlife, and it is more diverse and has much more culture overall. It is a huge city with tons of traffic. I love LA and all the amazing things it has to offer. San Diego is great for people who love the outdoors and beaches, and enjoy a slower pace and healthier lifestyle. SD is much smaller than LA and I think the overall quality of life is better in San Diego. That's why I ended up in San Diego after growing up in the LA area. I still go up to LA almost every weekend to see my friends.
Great comparison! Wouldn't it be nice if we had a bullet train between the two cities?
That would be something!!
San Diego, but love quirky LA downtown, including market, Chinatown, Little Tokyo.
If love to see some new york content on what to do eat and see
San Diego sounds like the best option
You should do a video on both cities job markets .
Agree, SD has more charm and SoCal feel, LA has more going on and more diversity. I think outdoors are great in either place.
Wouldn't Orange County provide a happy medium between the advantages of LA and SD?
how about a video san diego or orange county
I was thinking the same
I can’t wait to move to San Diego !
Nah. OC and Malibu don’t happen to be in the city of LA. /
OC ISNT PART OF LA STOP BEING BIASED.. BUT THEY TEND TO FORGET CATALINA ISLAND IS PART OF LA COUNTY
What about a little Mexico??
San Diego born and raised . Trust trust me it is America's finest City nothing compares.
I lived in LA most of my life and it's true, there's definitely a lot more to to. I personally prefer San Diego as the laid back and chill culture appeals to me since my profession is stressful.
Mexicans run California SD in LA but they won't run the country Ron DeSantis 2024 2028🩸
Honestly i from la but ive been to San Diego a lot and i like them both and downtown San Diego is nice but the view of downtown la is nice
But nothing in San Diego compares to being close to Yosemite national park and sequoia national forest like where I am now.
which one is cheaper San Diego or Los Angeles?
depends on the neighborhood. You can find similar ranges in both cities.
los angles is almost the same but San Diego is one of the most expensive housing markets in the united states . Ever since covid when they started letting people work from home we had so many people from san Francisco , east coast etc moving out to SD 😩 Part of the home price increases.
I like visiting LA, but I'll never leave SD for it.
Los Angeles remains the most unique city in the world either u like it or not!
It’s the same difference with the SFO Bay Area and the Greater Sacramento Region. Just exchange Tech and Finance vs Entertainment as the Bay Area’s main industry, while Sacramento is more laid back, nature loving, farm to fork.
Interesting!!
I grew up in San Francisco and then spent most my life in Sacramento. I absolutely hated it because I saw no nature 😂 which is why now I live in San Diego, where its full of scenic areas.
What kind of nature does Sacramento have
like dunkin cawfe is to you, your videos are to me. thanks
😂❤️
Just go to SF and don’t let the door hit you on the way out.
