Just bought mine - This pedal is everything it's cranked up to be.
IMO, there is no other DI-preamp on the market today that offers this much flexibility and tune-ability. Very pleased!
BTW, this is a great DEMO!
Many thanks, Stanley - very glad to hear it's working well for you! :) Thanks for the kind words, as well. So very appreciated.
Took a chance on this pedal it arrived a few days ago..... absolutely killer.
Wow that the first demo of anything that I could actually feel the difference when the settings were adjusted. I was watching on my IMac with speakers that had a separate sub woofer on my desk. You could clearly hear and feel the difference when the settings were adjusted. I will definitely pic this up for my home studio.
Thanks very much for the kind words, James! Really appreciate hearing this and hope you dig the preamp when you get one in hand. Cheers! :D
Got mine today. Sounds sweet. I especially love the voicing knob and the deep switch. Kickass!
A rock producer here. Got mine today. Love it. Grid Slammer plus this preamp give me exactly the bass tone I am after. Can't wait to start working with it.
Many thanks for the kind words, Andy. Let us know how you get along with it! Hope it serves you well and rock on. :D
It really does! Absolutely a Godsend for my bass lines. Ernie Ball cobalt strings + Grid Slammer + this preamp = perfect rock/metal bass tone. I m a Boogie guy, so my opinion may be biased ;-) .
Was playing the d800 quite a lot at my local store but since I don't gig too much I decided one of those plus a cab would be spending far more than I need, this however looks perfect! Just about to pre-order one :)
That sounds great; best DI/preamp I've heard, and at a reasonable price for MB gear. Really nice riffs in the video too. Now to work on my "punch without the wash"... Good stuff.
Ooo! Just what I need! I don't have to settle with the old standard Sans Amp tone. Nice work fellas!
Hi, any plans to upload a video for the new Subway + DI? I would love to see that
Hi. any plans to upload a video for the New subway+Di?
hmmm wonder how this would sound blended with my darkglass B7K
I’ve got several preamps and like my Mesa Subway the best. My one observation and suggestion for future improvement is to include a bypass switch.
I would have liked to listen to to it with some input gain cranked up a little bit. Make it roar, guys !
@MESA/Boogie Funny follow-up question but by any chance to you know what stand is being used to hold the unit up in this video? Just bought the preamp and I'd prefer to have it at arms length on stage, I'd like to mount it to a mic stand. I can't seem to find anything that would do it correctly.
Hey Evan - I believe the clip is this one: store.airturn.com/collections/tablet-and-mic-stands/products/airturn-manos-universal-tablet-mount --- It mounts to any standard mic stand.
Man you guys are awesome. AirTurn owes you some commission, just purchased it. The preamp sounds fantastic BTW. I cannot believe just how much it sounds just like this video. I'm no longer using a bass amp live and this is exactly what I needed to dress up my direct sound (both to my IEMs and FOH). It's perfect.

Not sure how you got that rigged. I bought the holder that you have recommended and it does NOT work. That holder, will not open wide enough to grip the pedal. When I contacted Air Turn, they told me in no uncertain terms that they don't recommend that holder for anything BUT tablets. Stuck with the shipping costs to return it. 😕
@@bustabass9025 did you ever get a reply?
Anyone know if this requires a polarity adapter to run off of a power supply brick like an mxr iso brick. Saw something about it needing 9v positive where as most need 9v negative??? Is that correct? Thanks.
Are you going to make real hand made bass valve recording preamp?
I'd love to know what that stand is you are using for the pedal...seriously! :)
I'm a little late with your reply, but I'm pretty sure it's an AirTurn Manos Universal Tablet Mount. I can tell you that's what I use for this and it's perfect. Sells for around $50. Peace.
@MESA/Boogie Was any compression used in the signal path for this demo? Thanks!
Hi Evan J - no compression used. This demo is purely the Subway Bass DI Pre. Cheers!
@@mesaboogie Wow, you fooled my ears on that. Listening through a good set Westone IEMs and man, what a nice warm, lively, yet controlled tone. No clipping or distortion at all when Steven really starts to dig in. Sounds like there's a colorful, light compression in the path but I'll take you on your word. It might be the closest thing I've heard to a Demeter VTMP-2C.
I have to say, you may have sold me over the edge on customer support. I can't tell you how much I appreciate that and the fact you got back to me so fast probably means I'm going to buy this DI. I contact companies frequently and it's rare I get a response at all let alone at nearly 9pm PST. Thank you!
@MESA/Boogie PS -- I bought one. It's brilliant.
Thanks for the demo. What diffuser is behind your bass player?
Thanks for the demo. For me the fret rattle distracts from the ability to assess tone.
Sorry about that, Robert. We did the best we could in a short amount of time. Not ideal but better next time for sure. Thanks for your interest and let us know if you have any questions. :)
I play on stage with my Subway Bass DI-Preamp weekly in a house of worship setting and since it doesn't have stomp buttons I find it ideal to have it mounted to a microphone stand. I haven't found a solution for a mount until I'd seen this video. I've checked onstage products which I assumed was used in the video but didn't find anything. Do you have any suggestions?
Hi Sandy - The 'clip' part in the video was not On Stage - just the stand itself. I forget who the maker of the clip was, but you check out iKlip Expand which looks like it would work well or do a search for "mic stand tablet clamp mount" and I think you'll find something that should work for the Subway Pre's dimentions of
6.875” (175mm) wide x 5.27” (134mm) deep x 2.51”. Hope this helps and glad it's working well for you!
I believe I've found the exact mic stand mount as diplayed in the demo. Its an AirTurn Manos Universal Tablet Mount. The link is below just in case there are anyother inquiries.

Thanks for the link Sandy! I was curious about the clamp too and glad you asked the question. I followed the link and found one for sale in the UK.

I saw one for 275 is that a good deal ?
nice. but where is the bypass footswitch ??
Hi Patori - Thanks for then kind words. The thinking with this p[roduct is that people will want (prefer) to use the preamp when they don't actually have one (but need one), hence, no bypass switch as, if you don't need the preamp, then you would probably just plug your instrument in direct. If you want BOTH (the preamp sound AND a direct sound), you can use the DI Output in PRE to achieve an unaffected direct instrument option. While there are probably some cases where someone might want to bypass the preamp for tonal reasons or something else, those reasons are minimal compared to those who want a preamp for it being a preamp, and adding the switch added signal and noise considerations that we elected to stay away from on this product. It may not cover all bases, but it certainly covers most... that said, point taken, thanks for sharing your thoughts, and hope this helps. :)
Something sounds a bit buzzy, especially in that first riff. Not sure if it's the bass or the DI. Hope its the bass, since I just ordered one of these things. 😕
The bass had some buzz, Busta. The DI Pre is VERY smooth and clean. Hope you dig it!
I just got this unit. Its awesome.
Please tell what is the name of that first bass guitar? Looks like a good precision copy. Thanks.
looks like a p/j bass from Nash Guitars, I think I'm reading that right.
Nash Guitar / Bass
Love it.
Thanks, Vibin!
when and where?
Being built as we speak and shipping likely this week or early next. Please contact your local Mesa dealer for pricing and availability. Thanks for your interest. :)
can Throttle Box be used for bass as well?
YES! And it sounds amazing for bass too! :)
Cool
no headphone out?
should I put cab sim if I use pedal for a direct situation?
Yes
24 bit and 192 khz?
128 bit and 1024 kHz for sure, pal
That fret buzz is terrible..! At least set the bass up properly before demo-ing a product. :-/
Simon Edward I've yet to find a Mesa product that doesn't highlight fret buzz. This is an accurate tone representation. I like the tone but cannot get over the noise. Completely agree with you.
Todd Russell - the tragedy is it's not just the first bass, it's all of them!! Is this how the guy records? Embarrassing.
Does this basically do the same as running my Subway D800 through DI?.
Very close, Clinton. The circuit is nearly identical and the intention is to not change the circuit from one device to the next. There's always slight, unintended differences, even if it's just potentiometer tolerances, but this is definitely the same circuit. Thanks for your interest. :)
Awesome thanks for responding!
If you're going to play round wound strings and low action, my man needs to lighten up on that right hand attack...
All that sound equipment and they couldnt get their mic levels correct. Something that even a youtuber kid does.
can it powered by phantom?
No. Phantom power is only a few millivolt so it’s enough for a mic but not to power a preamp which requires 9V
what a stupid question
@@marcelpignole583 It depends on how the device is designed. While the Subway Bass DI/DI+ can’t be powered by phantom-both are “phantom protected” by design-my Tech 21 Q\Strip preamp can be powered by its internal 9V battery, by a 9V power supply, or by phantom. I wish that my Mesa DI+ could be phantom powered, but some features-the line-level Preamp Out, for example-require more power. I currently bring only my bass and my Q\Strip or VT Bass DI to rehearsals and play through the PA on phantom power to save the battery. I love not having to schlep my amp.
He is not a bass player, or is he??
Nah... bddi is better.
