"They're going to know you're a tourist, and they're going to rob you" probably my fav Tomism
My grandmother worked in a sweatshop in the LES when she first came to the U.S. in the early 1910s.
My Gg ma did too
Waccamatt & Johanna - have either of yiu had an opportunity to visit the LES TENEMENT MUSEUM?
@@stephenjones8074 I have not.
@@stephenjones8074 I want to but I haven’t yet. Have you been?
Coming full circle as your device you typed that comment comes from a sweatshop in china. Way to go.
Your cousin Elon Besos Delgado, LMAO!!! Tom, the main difference between your channel and other “tour guide” channels, (besides your wealth of knowledge of NYC history), is your hilarious sense of humor. Every time I think I need to stop watching for a few minutes and get something done, you say something else that has me laughing out loud and I can’t click away!! 😂❤
My old stomping grounds.. Remember when it was cheap and fun. Now is a big shopping mall.
Nurse Betty’s anyone ?
@@CSDonohue11 Love that spot! And The Whiskey Ward on Essex
I just wrote a book about what the LES was like in the 80s and 90s called New York City Junky Days
I used to cop dope all over LES,a lot of notorious spots back then,a lot of Norfork, revington,a lot of alphabet city it was wide open, intill Giuliani got in,it moved around a lot,the beeper came out, everybody fighting over terrible pay phones,70s 80s 90s ,I switched to Bushwick after that, retired playing golf in Florida, went back couple yrs ago,it has changed a lot,the methadone program by OTB on DALANCY was a mess, the old markets on Essex, but back then it was just the way we liked it. Lol
@@stephengeorge3507 You would LOVE my book. I cover the gentrification of the EV and LES, the dope spots, the madness. I wrote about how when Giuliani was voted in, everything switched over to beepers. It's all in NEW YORK CITY JUNKY DAYS. I'm 24 years clean and living in Barcelona!!
I lived @163 Stanton in 2013-2015 & loved it.. beautiful interesting people everywhere 24 hours a day.
Had the best 5 days of my life staying on the LES
❤❤❤❤❤
Big fan! I saw you filming this a few weeks ago. And on my street in BK Heights. Landlord and kids are huge Tulane people
My various level of grandparents lived there in 1840's to 1910's. Ran across your videos while researching the various Manhattan neighborhoods where they lived from Upper East Side (where was live in nanny)to Hell's Kitchen to Lower East Side to Harlem. Really informative !
ran into tom the other day! was such a surprise as I’d just watched a few videos earlier on in the day. the kinda celeb sighting i need more of!
Fans of Tom, will you go wherever he leads? Absolutely yes, except grad school! You’re greatest, Tom!
Columbia House...I haven't heard that in years...LoL
Tom you’re killing me today! He was like smallpox but racist, between that and the little Chinese boy incident this might be one of your best videos yet!
Natty Lights and a Jimmy Buffet concert!! Toooooo funnyyyy!! LoL
Been watching your channel all night
Omg you liked my comments no way!!
Thank you for bathing us in NYC history ! Very refreshing sir!
fricken amazing! grew up here, didn't know pretty much any of this!! always wondered about the Rutgers St to Rutgers Uni connection, well, always curious as to why so many names are repeated throughout a whole region etc. and That bit on "Columbia" answers so much!!! Washington's District of Columbia!!! it finally makes sense!!!!
I love the informality of the informative video 😜 You never disappoint, accept when it comes to Eric's grandmother. 😭
Every frame a painting. Lovely work by Eric! And Tom once more showed his knowledge and dropped some dope facts.
Wow bunch if crazy stuff I'd never know lol. NYC is great, I love it! Also you're frickin funny, impersonating the crab was the best lmfao
We have a “House-ton” county here in Georgia, named for the same man.
Recovering lawyer here, too! Congratulations on escaping the cesspool. 🍾🥂🎉
Omgoodness! You're too funny! Love that sarcasm! "Freaks"
Is that they same William Allen that founded Allentown, PA? My home town. Engaging videos Mr. Tom.
I used to live at 205 Chrystie st. Some of the best times of my life.
Hi Neighbor. I lived at 67 1/2 Pitt St in the early 90’s.
I have always loved your videos but the new look is awesome. Shoutout to Eric or whatever yall changed, they look fantastic.
"Show some respect, ya freaks." 👏👏
Right on Tom! Another awesome history lesson, good job!
Took a break from learning GIS software, and watched your video. I love your NY adventures! Thank-you for the charming entertainment!
Pretty cool. I lived on Ludlow for a year, but it's cool to learn the history.
I'm hooked on this channel bro!!! Keep it up

You remember CDs, I remember LPs and 45s. You videos are great!
Cassettes making their way back
Loved George Clinton + Parliament Funkadelics
the music was P-funk 👏
I miss NY...would I ever love to go on a tour with you if I ever make it back..😄🇨🇦🤞
I can’t wait to move away from NY. Ok maybe that’s an exaggeration and I don’t feel that way all the time but I’m getting tired of it.
Did you update the camera Tom? The Delancey Street footage looks amazing
Keep up the good history your of NYC
Great tour, lived on 115 Eldridge st from 71-77, then Madison st 77-92.
Wow, that’s a great slice of NYC history
As someone who grew up on Rutgers Street, I always wondered if there was a connection with Rutgers University in NJ. As a kid I wanted to go there because of the name.
I am so dead That’s was a great joke.
Is Eric getting ready to go solo? I love his quips!
Tommy D!!! Keep em coming!!
Great video, learned a lot. Thanks!😍
Thanks for the knowledge Tomdnyc.
I live in Essex UK. I love how you say Norwich....
If your local its pronounced Narrrr ich lol

Sweet history #FunFacts 😃 Knew these street names came from (potentially) important somebodies but who the hell knew who they were… Well now we know, so ok thanx
In the 70s, you could get 10 LP records from Columbia House for a penny!
great videos !!!
Yes Tom, I remember those bands very well. I'm showing my age, but I don't care. Love both of them back than. Than Joy Division became New Order ( some same members).
New Order but yes
@@DWJamieson 😂
Wow!
I remember Columbia House from the 70's, so you're not old. LOL
Your videos are like Hulu episodes bro
Very interesting story, thanks every time! I didn't even know how the capital moved from New York. Good day!
This one was funny lol nice work
GO TOM D
Let’s waaaaalk
You remind me of an old friend from Florida. Keep up the good work
18:03 George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic and Joy Division.. some good hits!
I still think of the Bowery as a place where Bums hang out and now its a place where Tom's long hair hangs out having a life of his own
Man you are the best. 😉
Love u Tom
Tom can you do an episode on Bay Ridge/Dyker Heights
Would be cool. Especially how the whole Christmas decor thing started🎄
Groovy!
Washington, Adams, Jefferson, Madison
Tom sure u know this but the way the golden hour hits you in every video is very instagramable. Hehe
14:11 💪 omg 😱😬🤣
Forever-smiling #mihitapubbamgama boo!
I was born along side the Columbia River.
This one you were cute and funny . and i was informed . thanks man .
Grandma’s gonna up my inheritance
Siiiiiick!
❤
So where are the projects on Avenue D?
Did you mean George Clinton and Parliament??? Remember don't fake the funk or your nose will grow!!! LOL
😂😂😂😂😂
FYI Tom , it's pronounced 'suf fuk' and 'nor fuk' on this side of the pond - peace and nachos !
Tom is tearing the roof off this sucka! Some of the stories are so dark I would think you might need a flashlight. You can't fake the funk, and Tom is out there on those streets not just to stomp, but to give some sick facts that are not just knee deep.
cool
Eric reveal soon?
Hey ,Tom! What's up?
Some guy who looks like beardless Tommy D was caught vandalizing some property in Manhattan , interesting...
Nurse Betty’s 😏
Boerderij - Bowery
nice to see Harvey gave you the day off from TMZ. What happened to your accent?
I’ll chime in and say I know George Clinton and parliament funkadelic. At 52 I know to much. Lol
your my fav granchild then you realise your grandmas only granchild
Madison was not a Federalist; he was Jeffersonian in his views regarding the relationship between the states and the federal government. You see they got this thing called Wikipedia...
Did you find the Chinese kid?
You shoulda stopped by Katzs!!
Houston TX pronounced Hyoo Stn is named afer Samuel Houston Former Governor & Senator of Texas and President of Republic of TX 1837. Senator 1846. Governor 1859.
So he was racist.
@@METALFACEDOOMXXXX Has nothing to do with a name pronounciation.
Of course We want The P Funk
Hilarious, disappointment issue!!
Alert!!
Tom, do you have a problem with your sense of smell? Mums do not smell good. Bugs don’t like them. 😛 Other than that, great video as always!
Bro do Beerdom
Who can forget that face
Love these videos!!!
