Shit. That wolfenstein 3D port is extremely bad. It looks like the wall textures and sprites are downscaled from 64x64 to 32x32 8bpp , and the rendering buffer is reduced from 320x200 to 64x56, and scaled up to 256x 224 ( or even 512x448 interlaced ?). It's very blocked /pixeled up graphics. The SNES (8/)16 bit CPU ran at 3.58MHz, so it was inferior to outdated old 286 PC's when the SNES wolfenstein 3D version was released in 1994. I'm not sure why they even bothered making this port. The graphics were horrible even back in 1994 😅. Also, it looks like Nintendo removed Nazi symbols and made the game less violent (to meet Nintendo's content guidelines? ). I don't think anyone played this 20 years ago. Was more like 30 years ago.
The doom port looks similar, but it does not map textures to floor and ceilings. This was one of the big differences between wolfenstein 3D and the Doom engine, but it does the BPS (and some simple shading ) I did not expect the SNES Doom version to be this good after seeing the wolfenstein 3D port. The SNES Doom port is a little super duper impressive compared to the Wolfenstein 3D port. I guess the difference is the programmers that did these ports. Anyways, fun video 🙂

The controls were so rough on both of these ports! They were not good ports at all. And yes, Nintendo being Nintendo, removed all Nazi symbols. We talk about that in the episode. I still love me my Nintendo consoles tho. They do the same on Mortal Kombat ports on SNES, less blood and gore. Give that episode a watch as well, and don't forget to subscribe, we post weekly!
