As someone who went through a morbid phase of trying to dissect everything hitler did in like, middle school, and has now recently taken a college psychology course, I can tell you that from what I know he was the exact opposite. Yeah he was a horrible, horrible person, but he wasn't psychopathic, he was delisuional. He THOUGHT he was doing the right thing, and dear god No He Wasn't but he wasn't doing it with the knowledge it was wrong. from what I can tell, he didn't know he was wrong, which a psychopath often does. Please feel free to fact check me on everything but: -A bad person is just a nasty person, they get satisfaction from putting others down and feel better about being in power over people. A bully is a perfect example, an abuser can be the highest end of this; This is "I did X because you did Y" -A psychopath KNOWS what is wrong, and they don't feel guilt or sadness in response to their actions (In some cases it can turn into pride or joy which is why young serial killers started with animals often). This is "I did X because I don't care that it was wrong/It felt good" -A deliuded person does horrible things without knowing they are horrible; if they understood why they're wrong, they'd feel TERRIBLE, but the way they are now they don't really have the ability to understand. This is "I did X for the greater good/to help you/because it was the right thing".
Like Nazis aren't delusional, Nazis are dangerous and actively hate people they deem as others to the point where they support genocide to protect the "purity" of their ethnostate. If you're gonna assign them any kind of mental health trait, that's much more narcissistic than delusional, but slapping on arbitrary psychological terms that are constantly changing to very complex sociopolitical issues that have resulted in serious consequences like the deaths of millions of people is highly offensive to both mentally ill people and people who lost their lives at the hands of violent, racist reactionaries. They're very mentally sound and very intentional in what they do.

the part about using suicide as "revenge" really bothered me. One of the only things that pulled me through potential suicide attempts was the thought of how people I was close to, specifically my mom and sister, would react. They kept me alive, and for her to say Pete was using it as "revenge" is flat out disgusting.

I after watching this was finally able to reach out for mental health help simply because of what DeAngelo said about not needing to hit certain criteria to ask for help. I'm now in therapy and have found a very helpful emotional support system. So thank you DeAngelo. Stay hydrated and take care of yourself. :)
her saying that Pete not committing suicide is a revenge tactic is so insensitive. the reason i didn’t kill my self at my worst time 5 years ago was because i knew it would break my family’s hearts. that is not manipulative that is not vengeful, it’s literally a learned tactic in therapy to latch onto those things to keep you alive and safe. it’s a survival tactic for suicidal people. i hate everything she says
i know,, it made me so upset i had to put my phone down for half an hour. i’ve been chronically suicidal for 2 years and literally the only reason i’m alive is because i didn’t want to hurt my family. sometimes it gets to a place where i get upset because i want to do it so bad but i just couldn’t do that to my family. not wanting to hurt the people around you has been the thing keeping so many people alive and to say that talking about it is attention seeking and that he wants to do it for revenge is so so damaging

When she said revenge it fucked me up. As a person with suicidal thoughts, I know what Pete is going through. Like him, I would never take my life because I have family, a really annoying family but at the same time a family that makes me do better and makes me a better person. Even when times get rough, I know I could NEVER take my life. And every time I get those thoughts I always say "Well who is going to protect my family" or "Who is going to help my (single) mom with the kids) and THATS what keep me going. And the fact that Shallon classes that as "revenge" really makes my blood boil because no matter how annoying my family is I would NEVER do anything to hurt them.
Literally the only reason I didn’t kill myself for the past couple years was that my dog wouldn’t understand where I went . And it’s absolutely insane to see her invalidate this type of reason. My old therapist literally said that this is the best way to keep yourself alive, to make reasons, no matter how small, to wake up the next day. On god this is pissing me off so fucking much. It’s exactly the same for me! Big things like being important or special or inherently worth living never made sense to me and I was never able to grasp it, but the one thing I knew was that no one else would take care of my cat or love her or feed her, so I reminded myself of that every single day until I started believing that I really needed to live.

Unbelievably dangerous. I’m schizophrenic and I have bad suicidal thoughts and episodes sometimes that if someone was to tell me “if you won’t commit it, why even bring it up” I would commit it. The only reason why I haven’t went through with it yet is bc I have younger siblings that depend on me, but sometimes I feel so isolated and lost that it gets hard.

I hope you are getting help and taking good care. Thinking about my sister was a big help to me when I was struggling with depression and agoraphobia and having thoughts of suicide and self-harm. Holding on to the people you care about is a vitally important and powerful way to get yourself through any mental illness. So keep holding on to your love for your siblings, and recognize that each day you do you are doing a good thing for them and for yourself and be proud of that, because I know it can be hard but it also means you are a caring and considerate and loving person, despite what your thoughts may try to convince you. I hope each day gets easier and brighter for you. Thank you for talking about your experiences. Unlike what this horrible woman says, I think it's so important and it's brave. And it helps people who are going through what you are feel less isolated in their experiences as well.

But hey, what got me through was remembering that things are always changing, you can get through this and things will be better, promise. Focus on identifying negative thoughts and trying to replace them with positive ones. One day, you’ll wake up and realize you’ve been feeling better and you didn’t even notice. Being a psychology student: There sure is nobody who diagnoses with these "levels". Psychopathy is an outdated term, clinically it's called antisocial personality disorder and it's a spectrum. For professionals it's one of the biggest sins to pretend you can diagnose someone without talking to them in person in a proper therapy session. @@emmy8961 there are plenty of fake psychology channels that do similar content. Some of their audience absolutely does think of their videos as being factual and accurate. If you just look at a channel like The Rewired Soul, the comments section is usually full of people who are taking it pretty seriously. The audiences for these people are probably mostly children that are still too naive to have a proper think on these matters, but it's still a worrisome trend and very unhealthy.

Absolutely... I studied psychology on top of a totally irrelevant cell biology and biotech background, and when I switched to this 'soft' science, I had people ask me if I am analysing them or reading their minds... that also pisses me off. TBH, I have never even heard of the list she was using. The standard we were taught to follow was the DSM-IV or V (some people have some issues with the newest since Asperger's no longer has it's own category).. And when she said psychopaths are not the same as sociopaths, I just cringed, since both are layman terms for the same type of people with the same disorder. Just absolute garbage, she needs to stay in her lane.

Bipolar can be treated with medication designed to adjust the chemicals in your brain. Personality disorders such as Borderline can only be managed by cognitive behavioral therapy.

As someone with bipolar disorder, who honestly considers the fact that I decided to change medications as a big reason why I was able to overcome suicidal ideation, I wholeheartedly agree with this. This woman is absolutely the furthest thing from qualified to talk about mental health possible. I am eternally grateful that I found a great psychiatrist who understand mental health and medication, because without her I’d never have known how adhd medications (which I also take due to having adhd) can sometimes make bipolar symptoms worse, I’d never have figured out that the anxiety meds I was taking were making me feel like shit because of how they were affecting my insomnia, and so much more. Changing medications is a normal, and honestly necessary in most cases, part of the mental health journey. All that this woman is doing is hurting others because of her own unresolved issues, and I hope she figures them out, if only so that she stops spreading harm. Also, I too pride myself on eloquence. It’s fun using big words and sounding fancy :)

A couple of years ago, before I came to terms with being bisexual, I had intense suicidal thoughts, to the point that I almost did it a couple of times. The only thing that kept me from going all the way was thinking about what would happen to my family afterwards. Hearing Shallon indirectly tell me that I was “getting revenge” against them absolutely disgusts me. I can’t believe a woman who talks about other people like that has a platform as large as her.

Thank you friend, it’s gotten much better since those days, as I’ve come to terms with myself and been blessed with a very accepting family who respect me for who I’ve always been. Granted, I still live in Bible-Belt America, so it’s not exactly the most queer-friendly environment, but I’ve had the pleasure of watching that mentality slowly change as my generation grows up and is able to cause greater change here. frankiestar43 I have BPD too and when she said that you can’t be medicated for BPD I instantly knew she was an idiot. There obviously aren’t any drugs that are specifically meant to treat BPD but it is possible to take various psych meds to help. What a moron.

I recently found out that Pete Davidson’s father died on 9/11 (he was one of the firefighters working to rescue people) while Pete was still a preteen, I think. That simple fact explains so much about why Pete could have struggles with depression, as any human in that situation likely would.

Also bpd stems from narcissistic parenting however just because a child has been emotionally abused at the hands of a narcissistic parent doesn’t necessarily mean the parent is a bad or even abusive person in fact if anything perpetuating that misinformation only causes further guilt and confusion within people suffering from those circumstances who have more than enough for worry about. Not to mention that narcissistic personality disorder is another thing that doesn’t just come up out of thin air and is also the direct result of a traumatic upbringing in it’s own right. Clearly some people fall into multiple different categories in the personality disorder category and thus changing the way they perceive the actions they’ve taken that have directly caused mental harm to a loved one but that doesn’t mean every single person diagnosed with npd is just ruthlessly uncaring humans are so much more complex than that which is exactly what makes bpd so difficult in the first place because you are literally groomed to make excuses for your abuser who may just happen to also be the person in the world who loves you and you love back the very most and that is a deeply counterintuitive struggle to be having inside yourself about possibly the only person in your life you have ever truly been close to or had to depend on. The nuances are essentially endless but the fact that she can make it out to be so black and white despite it nearly being entirely grey is the part that is most deeply concerning to me and hopefully anyone else who has had to struggle with these issues in their lives.
There isn't any one universally accepted and well understood cause for BPD. BPD is basically just your brain developing certain patterns while growing up. A lot of people develop these patterns as a result of abusive childhoods, or a narcissistic parent (not all abusers are narcissists, by the way). But a lot of people develop these patterns for other reasons that are harder or even impossible to trace. Mental health and psychology isn't math, there's no formula, no x+y=z. It's more complicated than that. And part of it is genetics. It's not always caused by abuse. I know multiple people, myself included, whose parents were perfectly fine and normal and not in any way narcissistic. No abuse, no childhood trauma, and yet still we ended up with BPD. Saying that people can't be BPD unless they were abused makes it harder for BPD people who weren't abused to accept that they have it, which means it's a longer time before they get help. For the longest time I argued I can't have BPD because I wasn't abused, and it took a while and a lot of research before I accepted that "I have BPD" and "my childhood was fine" are not contradicting statements. This misinformation hurts people, and keeps them from getting the help they need.
Not wanting to make my family and fiancé deal with the ramifications of my death has literally saved my life many times. When I think there is no point of existing and I’m a burden i remember there are people who care about me and the last thing I want to do is hurt them. It’s how I recognize when I’m not doing okay mentally and need to talk to a Dr or adjust my meds. Like it’s a legit reason why many depressed people are currently alive at this moment. The idea that mental illness is bad, makes you a bad person, is something meds magically fix, or is for attention is why I am vocal about my struggles. To explain what it is really like and to be there for others if they need to talk to someone who understands their feelings. Wanting one person to care about you when in mental distress and not having anyone has deadly consequences. This lady has missed the plot and then some
I also think "she won't let her wife have a baby" is some very interesting phrasing. Even IF Portia wanted a child and Ellen didn't, they are a married couple. It is a big decision BOTH should agree on. One could just as easily turn it around and say "Portia forced Ellen to become a mother" if, in this made-up scenario, Portia managed to convince Ellen.
How... How did he managed to stay so calm? He has this inner peace in him. He works through it all in silence. His eyes went so sad and helpless while suicide bit. It's... Awful. She's awful. And doesn't know the weight of her words.
What I find more awful is that she has gotten away with her behavior for more than a decade. I'm pretty sure this is the video that started all the Shallon Lester hate. But I'm still glad that it's starting to catch up with her. She had it coming.

I genuinely started crying while listening to this lady talk about "If you're not actually going to commit suicide, why even bring it up?" because it 's so horrible to hear. I have struggled with suicidal thoughts and depression before, but even if I hadn't, it's still so disgusting and upsetting to know that this is how some people think. I really had no idea that someone could be so hateful.

-A psychopath KNOWS what is wrong, and they don't feel guilt or sadness in response to their actions (In some cases it can turn into pride or joy which is why young serial killers started with animals often). This is "I did X because I don't care that it was wrong/It felt good"
-A deliuded person does horrible things without knowing they are horrible; if they understood why they're wrong, they'd feel TERRIBLE, but the way they are now they don't really have the ability to understand. This is "I did X for the greater good/to help you/because it was the right thing".

the part about using suicide as "revenge" really bothered me. One of the only things that pulled me through potential suicide attempts was the thought of how people I was close to, specifically my mom and sister, would react. They kept me alive, and for her to say Pete was using it as "revenge" is flat out disgusting.

When she said revenge it fucked me up. As a person with suicidal thoughts, I know what Pete is going through. Like him, I would never take my life because I have family, a really annoying family but at the same time a family that makes me do better and makes me a better person. Even when times get rough, I know I could NEVER take my life. And every time I get those thoughts I always say "Well who is going to protect my family" or "Who is going to help my (single) mom with the kids) and THATS what keep me going. And the fact that Shallon classes that as "revenge" really makes my blood boil because no matter how annoying my family is I would NEVER do anything to hurt them.

Literally the only reason I didn’t kill myself for the past couple years was that my dog wouldn’t understand where I went . And it’s absolutely insane to see her invalidate this type of reason. My old therapist literally said that this is the best way to keep yourself alive, to make reasons, no matter how small, to wake up the next day. On god this is pissing me off so fucking much. Holding on to the people you care about is a vitally important and powerful way to get yourself through any mental illness. So keep holding on to your love for your siblings, and recognize that each day you do you are doing a good thing for them and for yourself and be proud of that, because I know it can be hard but it also means you are a caring and considerate and loving person, despite what your thoughts may try to convince you. I hope each day gets easier and brighter for you. Thank you for talking about your experiences. Unlike what this horrible woman says, I think it's so important and it's brave. And it helps people who are going through what you are feel less isolated in their experiences as well.

Being a psychology student: There sure is nobody who diagnoses with these "levels". Psychopathy is an outdated term, clinically it's called antisocial personality disorder and it's a spectrum. For professionals it's one of the biggest sins to pretend you can diagnose someone without talking to them in person in a proper therapy session.

@@emmy8961 there are plenty of fake psychology channels that do similar content. Some of their audience absolutely does think of their videos as being factual and accurate. If you just look at a channel like The Rewired Soul, the comments section is usually full of people who are taking it pretty seriously. The audiences for these people are probably mostly children that are still too naive to have a proper think on these matters, but it's still a worrisome trend and very unhealthy.

Absolutely... I studied psychology on top of a totally irrelevant cell biology and biotech background, and when I switched to this 'soft' science, I had people ask me if I am analysing them or reading their minds... that also pisses me off. TBH, I have never even heard of the list she was using. The standard we were taught to follow was the DSM-IV or V (some people have some issues with the newest since Asperger's no longer has it's own category).. And when she said psychopaths are not the same as sociopaths, I just cringed, since both are layman terms for the same type of people with the same disorder. Just absolute garbage, she needs to stay in her lane.

As someone with bipolar disorder, who honestly considers the fact that I decided to change medications as a big reason why I was able to overcome suicidal ideation, I wholeheartedly agree with this. This woman is absolutely the furthest thing from qualified to talk about mental health possible. I am eternally grateful that I found a great psychiatrist who understand mental health and medication, because without her I’d never have known how adhd medications (which I also take due to having adhd) can sometimes make bipolar symptoms worse, I’d never have figured out that the anxiety meds I was taking were making me feel like shit because of how they were affecting my insomnia, and so much more. Changing medications is a normal, and honestly necessary in most cases, part of the mental health journey. All that this woman is doing is hurting others because of her own unresolved issues, and I hope she figures them out, if only so that she stops spreading harm.

A couple of years ago, before I came to terms with being bisexual, I had intense suicidal thoughts, to the point that I almost did it a couple of times. The only thing that kept me from going all the way was thinking about what would happen to my family afterwards. Hearing Shallon indirectly tell me that I was “getting revenge” against them absolutely disgusts me. I can’t believe a woman who talks about other people like that has a platform as large as her.

I mean yeah I fully agree however though losing a loved one during adolescence doesn’t cause borderline personality disorder.
Also bpd stems from narcissistic parenting however just because a child has been emotionally abused at the hands of a narcissistic parent doesn’t necessarily mean the parent is a bad or even abusive person in fact if anything perpetuating that misinformation only causes further guilt and confusion within people suffering from those circumstances who have more than enough for worry about. Not to mention that narcissistic personality disorder is another thing that doesn’t just come up out of thin air and is also the direct result of a traumatic upbringing in it’s own right. Clearly some people fall into multiple different categories in the personality disorder category and thus changing the way they perceive the actions they’ve taken that have directly caused mental harm to a loved one but that doesn’t mean every single person diagnosed with npd is just ruthlessly uncaring humans are so much more complex than that which is exactly what makes bpd so difficult in the first place because you are literally groomed to make excuses for your abuser who may just happen to also be the person in the world who loves you and you love back the very most and that is a deeply counterintuitive struggle to be having inside yourself about possibly the only person in your life you have ever truly been close to or had to depend on. The nuances are essentially endless but the fact that she can make it out to be so black and white despite it nearly being entirely grey is the part that is most deeply concerning to me and hopefully anyone else who has had to struggle with these issues in their lives.
There isn't any one universally accepted and well understood cause for BPD. BPD is basically just your brain developing certain patterns while growing up. A lot of people develop these patterns as a result of abusive childhoods, or a narcissistic parent (not all abusers are narcissists, by the way). But a lot of people develop these patterns for other reasons that are harder or even impossible to trace. Mental health and psychology isn't math, there's no formula, no x+y=z. It's more complicated than that. And part of it is genetics. It's not always caused by abuse. I know multiple people, myself included, whose parents were perfectly fine and normal and not in any way narcissistic. No abuse, no childhood trauma, and yet still we ended up with BPD.
Saying that people can't be BPD unless they were abused makes it harder for BPD people who weren't abused to accept that they have it, which means it's a longer time before they get help. For the longest time I argued I can't have BPD because I wasn't abused, and it took a while and a lot of research before I accepted that "I have BPD" and "my childhood was fine" are not contradicting statements. This misinformation hurts people, and keeps them from getting the help they need.

Not wanting to make my family and fiancé deal with the ramifications of my death has literally saved my life many times. When I think there is no point of existing and I’m a burden i remember there are people who care about me and the last thing I want to do is hurt them. It’s how I recognize when I’m not doing okay mentally and need to talk to a Dr or adjust my meds. Like it’s a legit reason why many depressed people are currently alive at this moment. The idea that mental illness is bad, makes you a bad person, is something meds magically fix, or is for attention is why I am vocal about my struggles. To explain what it is really like and to be there for others if they need to talk to someone who understands their feelings. Wanting one person to care about you when in mental distress and not having anyone has deadly consequences. This lady has missed the plot and then some
I also think "she won't let her wife have a baby" is some very interesting phrasing. Even IF Portia wanted a child and Ellen didn't, they are a married couple. It is a big decision BOTH should agree on. One could just as easily turn it around and say "Portia forced Ellen to become a mother" if, in this made-up scenario, Portia managed to convince Ellen.
If I were her therapist, I'd need therapy.

And also it is visible how talking about depression and watching this woman hating on depressed people affect s him. And he has put himself through this (and didn't put ads along the video) because he considered that it was something more people should know about bc it's a real issue that isn't being dealt with.
