This is a really cute set for someone who wanted to try water coloring and stamping and the silicon mat, stamp pad and water brushes would be useful for future crafting
Hullo Lindsay, I do want to say to anyone who is more of an Artist or involved in creating fine art, this is The Frugal Crafter channel! You did a wonderful job evaluating this kit! I am not part of the demographic that is looking to buy this, but for anyone looking for a review this is an excellent experience. Thank you for sharing your expansive knowledge with your viewers. I am going to add that I only received an “art kit” twice in my life. Both times they were gifts from relatives who heard that I was into art and though I would love to have a whole collection of supplies! Most of the art supplies were not so good. Yet I was thankful for the gifts and they later bought some of my artwork! I never hurts to be thankful to people that have supported your art journey, they could just as easily stomped on your dreams and been negative. Thanks Lindsay!
I liked the stamps. The sparkle brush is good and if it lasts as long as a Wink of Stella brush, it'll be a hit! Thanks for showing us this. I think there will be a definite market for it with beginner cardmakers.
Im not a crafter/stamper, but I think they did a good job for their market. The stamps and the mat and the Wink of Stella brush seem pretty nice, and the metallics look pretty good for that market. Nice review!
So happy to see you review this as a professional. I am a Diamond Press customer and am considering this. Today it is on sale on HSNFor $39.95. Looks worth it to me. Thank you! 🥰
Also a DP customer. I’ve followed here from back when she was doing alcohol marker reviews. I’m not a colorist, but always looking for easy ways to look like a colorist for my cards. I’m thinking this kit may be adequate for me.
@@mak327 I did order the kit with the auto ship. Like the tote to keep it all together separate from my other paper crafting things. Hope I use it. If you ordered, hope it works for you.
Thank you for the honest review! I own a lot of Diamond Press products, and I enjoy seeing their spokesperson show them. That being said for a watercolor product, I want and value your opinion!
Never heard of Diamond Press but the metallics seemed pretty decent. I also liked the bag and the sparkle brush was nice too. Thank you for the review ☺
Thank you for your honest review as always! I really like the mat and the wink of Stella brush pen. The carrying bag looks very pretty too! Especially the lovely teal/aqua color. ❤ I feel like Diamond Press did a good job with the kit for their market.
I’m not the target market. But for the pure cardmaking/scrapbooking crowd, this is a very good choice. Pastels are useful for cardmaking, if you’re not very experienced in paint load control with watercolors. I definitely have times when I prefer pre-mixed colors. You know, funny fact, I don’t think I have a waterproof stamping ink. I had a huge cardmaking phase maybe 7 years ago, but I never got a fully waterproof paint. I used to print the “stamp” images then color that way - laser printer. I colored stamped images with alcohol markers and colored pencils. This set would have been so awesome if the me of a decade ago got this. Lol.
So pleased to see this review. I follow the HSN for craft days, so knew this was going to be the todays special for the August 13th craft day. Your review was very informative. I have many Diamond Press products and love the company. Thanks!
Thank you so very much for an honest review of this kit. I am a Diamond Press fan, and I am also a fan of your reviews. You are the first person I have seen to give a thorough review of this. Now that I know you value guess-timate of it, I might look into it. Knowing the stamping ink is good, and now knowing the paints don't blend so easily is very useful information. Thank you again 😊
Thanks for the great review! It looks like a nice present for someone who is just starting out in arts and crafts and it can encourage them to try some fun stuff like the metallics and the stamps. I think I would have loved something like this when I was around 13 or 14 and I might pick up one of these for one of my nieces.
I know from your recent intros, you are not a fan of unboxings. Being that I am not a professional watercolor artist or go to artsupply conventions, unboxings are in fact interesting. Other than RUclips I would not know what is available.

I debated over this pre-release then purchased BEFORE seeing your video. Your review is extremely fair. The kit is definitely not for the serious or professional artist but for stampers and card makers it’s decent and was decently priced ($39.99). Sometimes you have to see beyond the actual products… considering the possibilities beyond the initial, intended usage. A lot of different things made this kit worth it for me. Additionally, I wanted something I could use with wild abandon and not feel afraid to ‘waste’. I did, however, switch out/upgrade the brushes with some I already own.
Great review! This isn't for me, but reviews of kits are always a good thing. I find kits tempting, but I'm generally not a kit person. Reviews remind me of that. When Craftstash ran a selection of Papercraft Society kits half off, I was happy and bought 3 of them. I LOVE the stamps and dies. At half off, I must admit that I gave a friend most of the extras.
Nice review but i would want a white silicon mat. I have all these items already, the first metallic / pearl paints nice but pretty excellent is the student grade I use on my card making. I would want better paper too.
Fair enough! I think they might have done teal because white stains. I have 2 white silicone mats, and I really have to scrub them to get them clean looking.
Thanks for this review!!! I have this item in my cart on HSN but I’m on the fence. We have very similar opinions on the products. I knew the paints couldn’t be great but was pleasantly surprised that the metallics and shimmer paints were decent. I would rather have a white silicone mat that stains vs a colored mat to mix colors on, but, it would be easier to take a mixing palette to the sink to clean so I probably wouldn’t use the mat to mix colors on. The kit is listed for about $62(?) but a preview hinted it will be under $40 on Craft Day. I do like the autoships so I’d have to order the kit to get them. I have tons of artist quality paints so I like the thought that these paints in the kit will useful for calligraphy lettering. I like the extras that come in the kit so I’ll probably get it if it’s just under $40. 🤣
I see it’s $63 and since I have better water colors already I think I will look into a silicone mat from another source. Thank you for the demo. Much appreciated.
It looks like the indentations on that Matt are sized for the small distress Ink cubes and then one large standard ink cube. I have a similar Matt that has indentations like that on it so that you can put the ink cubes in there and it holds them in place as your, putting the ink on your brush. The mat is super super nice and I like those wink of Stella pens too. Sounds like it’s a bit pricey though overall. Thanks again for such an awesome review. Can always count on you to get the deets
Great review, Lindsay! I’m with you, I think it’s a great value for all the stuff, but I certainly wouldn’t want to use the basic watercolors that come with it. Good for someone wanting to try things out - maybe mixed media card making for starters and gives them several things at once for a, hopefully, nominal price. I just went and looked, and to be honest, I think $62.50 is a little pricey for it. But then again, if you were to buy everything individually except the basic paints, maybe it would cost the same.
I think it's the same, I beleice they are made by seamiart and they manufacture for many brands. I don't care for that paint myself but others enjoy it.
So this kit was advertised as a “technique” kit for people who might want to try their hand at watercoloring and includes what you would need to try it out WITHOUT spending a fortune and finding out watercoloring isn’t for you. The price is actually $39.95 on craft day. Excellent price for anyone wanting to give it a try. Not necessarily beginners at card making, stamping, etc. I’ve been making cards and stamping for years and years, but haven’t tried watercolor. Excellent stepping off point BEFORE I spend what you may spend on a “good set” of watercolors. BTW, what would you spend on 40 good colors?
It depends, I would recommend the pretty excellent 36 set for people who want to test the waters with an expensive but high preforming paint, it around $20 amzn.to/4dG5edp and then as you use up a color I would buy that color from a well known artist range so you only end up spending top dollar on the colors you really use. I think this kit is fine for what it is and priced fairly.
HSN wants $63. for the kit. If you're new to their site, they offer 15% off in exchange for your email. I didn't stay long enough to see if shipping is an extra charge. Thank you for the review, Lindsay!
Thank you for your review of this Diamond Press watercoloring paint kit. I have leaned some new things about paints, cardstock, brushes and stamps today. I'm very familiar with the DP brand (buying their products for about ten years) and you are right about them being targeted at papercrafters -- cardmakers to be more precise. They do small runs of their offerings, saying they are "one and done", which makes it difficult on their fans to grow their customer base -- I have shown or talked to friends about DP products, got them interested and then when they went to buy, the items were sold out and there will be no restocking. I think their marketing strategy is to keep their customers "hungry for more" and it is p*ssing people off instead.
Most stamp companies are like that now. They use the sense of urgency to get people to buy or they might miss out and there is always something new for the shrinking market of papercrafter to get. Also it avoid sitting on inventory when a trend passes or when their designs get knocked off on temu. It's hard to be a stamp company these days. Most of the company's who don't retire products constantly go out of business.
@@thefrugalcrafter I understand what you mean about stamp companies needing to be careful in business with marketing and inventory, etc. However the Diamond Press company is named after the company's original miniature die-cutting machine which was called the Diamond Press. The company was always meant to be a white label craft company that played on customers' fear of missing out. They ran into problems in the first year or so because of a problem with the gear system in the original die-cutting machine and their customer service was, to be frank, so hard to track down as to be almost non-existent. (I had one of the faulty machines and it locked up with a die in it. When I tracked down the company, they replaced my machine with a new model in a very timely manner. It was obvious they knew they had a problem product and released it anyway, timing releases so that the faulty model machines could be replaced by the second, improved model machines.) The company has played other games with customers too. The plastic cutting folders that are required to use the die-cutting machine are forever selling out on HSN. When the new DP Marquis machine was introduced DP didn't bother to tell the original machine owners that they would not be continuing to manufacture the cutting folder size required by the original, smaller-mouthed machines. After much to-do, they are offering the small cutting folders on their own website now, but not through HSN. (It reminds me of the nonsense the Cuttlebug and Cricut parent companies have pulled. You ought to dance with them who brought you.) Anyway, I thought you'd want to know about DP as you seem to be considering doing business with them.
I just looked. The kit is $62.95. A little pricy. However, the silicone mat runs about $20-30 for a similar one. Large stamp sets run $15-30 (x3). Carry bag about $5-10. Water brush about $3-5. Metallic watercolors set about $15-30. Wink of Stella type brush about $5. Not counting regular brushes or watercolor set, it comes to about $60 so I guess it depends on what of the set you will use.
Viewers should wait until Tuesday to purchase. Its going to be the today's special value. And will have the option for auto ship 4 additional kits in future.
The silicon mat in this kit is very similar to one sold by UK company Under the Rainbow. Their version also comes with a square silicon cup that sits in a recess on the opposite side to the one shown here.
The mat and bag are teal because that is the signature color for Diamond Press products. Their die cutting machine, stencils and other products are made in teal.
Does the kit come with the solid acrylic blocks that you put the stamps on? It looks like a fun bunch of products bundled together and would be pretty exciting to receive as a gift. (Even as a treat to oneself.). I’m a watercolor person with artist grade materials, so I want to be nice rather than snobby about a crafter’s kit. Lindsay, it’s fun to watch you review the kit even though I’m not a crafter. So thank you, and full respect to you!
Hmmmm! I've never bothered buying a waterbrush, but I do have some DaVinci iridescent medium and this is kind of an appealing way to mix it with colors!
I'm kind of surprised that it's a stamping kit but didn't include an acrylic block. For that price, they could have at least included something to attach the stamps to! I don't feel like this would benefit my collection in any way, but block aside, I could see it being a fun starter for people who are new!
I am just starting with mixed media and was wondering if the little mixing wells would be a good place to pour out adhesive or for putting a bunch of bling to keep it from spilling. Not to mention easier clean up. Thanks for mentioning it. And I am glad Lindsay reviewed this.
I have the majority of everything in the box however I did come away with some questions. Have you ever tried Wink of Stella dipped in watercolor before? Have you ever tried to make your own Wink of Stella? If so how did you make it? I would like to purchase more stamps but have only looked on Amazon. Do you have any recommendations for someone looking just for stamps?
I do wish it didn't have the silicone mat (i am allergic to silicone...it stops my heart) ,so maybe the company will see this. Oh and in the HSN app it retails for $62 and some change.
I do not have much faith that Diamond Press will have a very good water color set. I do love their stamps and dies for paper crafting. Their inks and alcohol markers do not get good reviews. I do love their teal colored bag and mat. I have other water color sets that I like so I do not need this kit.
I owe it to my viewers to be honest. I am sorry you thought I was being negative. I hope you enjoy the product if you buy it, at least you know I'm not overselling it. I won't apologize for being honest.

(Even as a treat to oneself.). I’m a watercolor person with artist grade materials, so I want to be nice rather than snobby about a crafter’s kit. Lindsay, it’s fun to watch you review the kit even though I’m not a crafter. So thank you, and full respect to you!
Thanks, it dosnt come with a block but an affordable option is a dollar tree acrylic frame (the kind you put on the fridge that holds a 4x6 photo.)
Hmmmm! I've never bothered buying a waterbrush, but I do have some DaVinci iridescent medium and this is kind of an appealing way to mix it with colors!
I love it!
💜💜💜
I'm kind of surprised that it's a stamping kit but didn't include an acrylic block. For that price, they could have at least included something to attach the stamps to!
I don't feel like this would benefit my collection in any way, but block aside, I could see it being a fun starter for people who are new!
Yes, a block would be good, one as big as the largest stamp at least.
Eh on the paint but I have been considering a silicone mat like that. I love a silicone mat for my mixed media work.
They are handy!
I am just starting with mixed media and was wondering if the little mixing wells would be a good place to pour out adhesive or for putting a bunch of bling to keep it from spilling. Not to mention easier clean up. Thanks for mentioning it. And I am glad Lindsay reviewed this.
This sells for 62.95$ That seems a little high!
It will be significantly less when it airs, because it's a Today's Special.
I agree seems a little bit high to me
I have the majority of everything in the box however I did come away with some questions. Have you ever tried Wink of Stella dipped in watercolor before? Have you ever tried to make your own Wink of Stella? If so how did you make it? I would like to purchase more stamps but have only looked on Amazon. Do you have any recommendations for someone looking just for stamps?
Yes and yes:) I have a video on diy wink of Stella here: ruclips.net/video/bD-8i0c6XDo/видео.htmlsi=bgYbDCJB25OV0P9J
@@thefrugalcrafter Man, your good!!! It's no wonder I follow you!
I do wish it didn't have the silicone mat (i am allergic to silicone...it stops my heart) ,so maybe the company will see this. Oh and in the HSN app it retails for $62 and some change.
Yikes!
Your link to HSN shows this kit at $63...I would never purchase for that price!
I'd wait a few days if you want it, im pretty sure it's going to go on specail.
@@thefrugalcrafter Good to know...thank you!
I checked HSN and it’s going for $62.95.
It will be on sale tomorrow
What does it mean when you say that a color shifts or a paint shifts?
It dries a different shade
Not for me, but if anyone is interested in this kit, it’s today’s (August 13) special. $40.
They are charging 63.00 for this kit. I feel that is way too high.
It will be on specail tomorrow:)
Yikes! It's $62.95!
Should be on sale tomorow!
I do not have much faith that Diamond Press will have a very good water color set. I do love their stamps and dies for paper crafting. Their inks and alcohol markers do not get good reviews. I do love their teal colored bag and mat. I have other water color sets that I like so I do not need this kit.
They rate like similar looking sets. They work fine on the paper provided but are not, in my opinion, where the value of this kit is.
Too much plastic 😭
wow not too happy with this kit, are you, debbie downer
I owe it to my viewers to be honest. I am sorry you thought I was being negative. I hope you enjoy the product if you buy it, at least you know I'm not overselling it. I won't apologize for being honest.
@@thefrugalcrafter Well said, Lindsay!
Thank you for the review.
My pleasure!
