    @J. Marcus
    Thank you for making this video! I tested both 50SII and 100S side by side. I noticed that the viewfinder is the same, while AF performance on 100S is slightly faster, but color science and fidelity from 50SII look likable. The GFX100 (original) has the best viewfinder I have ever tested. The best possible tip for faster AF on 50SII is whatever you want to focus on; it needed light to give it accurate focusing. For example, shooting in a studio with 50SII will hunt and struggle due to low light, but if you turn on the modeling lamp on the strobe (bright), it wouldn't have an issue focusing. Manual focusing is a skill that is more accessible as the long focus peaking, zoomed in, and monochrome on the viewfinder. While AF performance from 50SII is slower than 100S, the image quality and tonality still shine! GFX100S/100 is fantastic but will eat storage spaces since it is 102MP and will slow down workflow! GFX50SII is faster than most Film MF cameras and even Phase One. Here's what I hope for in the future; If Fujifilm can bring us a GFX body with a stacked sensor as they did with X-H2s, it would be a game changer!

    Thank you for all the effort put into this and for the downloads. I've rented the 50SII for some commercial jobs and all my prospective clients call out those shoots as examples of what they want. After downloading your files and pulling into CP1, I INSTANTLY preferred the 50SII flat raws and edits. I'm like you and wish there was the 50 sensor with the phase detect focus. Instant purchase and would be happy for years. Thanks again J. Marcus!! (and beautiful kids bro!!)

    Great video and man you really dove in head first down that rabbit hole of comparisons. Thank You !!! It's why i never miss any of your content.....So I'm not crazy.... the files really are different. I still have my 50R and shoot with it when I want the colors to pop (magic). The colors on the 100s are still good but man I remember the first time I looked at the files from the 100s I was depressed. everything is a trade off. Ive gotten used to the 100s colors over time and I shoot more black and white than I do color so the color "palette" for me is not my highest priority with either camera. The 100s is just a better overall camera if you can deal with the massive file sizes and slow work flow when it comes to editing. I will probably have to let go of one of them at some point as I shoot primarily with my Nikon Z7 and Z6. I say that but i shot a lot of fall foliage last month and I shot it all with the 50R. The files were stunning. I hate the ergonomics of the 50R but for me that original sensor is in a class by itself so I deal with it. The 100s is just amazing in a different way and I love them both for different reasons. One of them does have to go at some point which will be a sad day either way.

    Yes, I found that the best way to get the most out of either is to have the fastest card as well to minimise Write time as well and display preview to slow life down as well. The edit is definitely different and yes capture one still better process for fuji raw data. I only ever used uncompressed as well but I don't like any compromise and my system is fast enough plus I don't shoot frames that are unnecessary.

    I remember as a Canon shooter when the 5D Mark IV came out I hated the new colors.after a little bit of time I grew to really like the files on the camera and after a few updates to Adobe and firmware updates from Cannon I liked the colors even better . I think we all have our favorite camera, mine is the 1Ds Mark III. It seems like nothing has nicer midtones than that Camera, but It could never replace the 5D Mark IV because of all of its modern functions. I think overtime that 100s from Fuji would be your go to camera. No amount of great color can compensate for a missed shot. Nice review I watched it beginning to end and appreciated your real world inputs on the files and the cameras.

    An extremely helpful video that answers many of my questions. It was thoroughly enjoyable. I sense that both of these cameras provide the capability of producing excellent photos. I've handled the 100S in a camera store and was duly impressed. Hasn't been possible to get my hands on the 50SII but it would seem that their handling is the same, except for the difference in auto focus. In a nut shell for me the 50SII looks the most suitable option as its files are much smaller (by 50%) and the cost is similarly - smaller! Yes, the absence of Phase Detection is regrettable but understandable with the different sensor and I get the impression that Contrast Detection in Single Focus mode is suited to my needs. Either camera is not designed to cope with people on rapid movement or where events move sharply. Perfect, I think.

    Aloha from Hawaii Marcus! Great comparison, I was looking forward to you doing a comparison for the 100 vs 50 megapixel cameras. I'm not gonna lie I totally wouldn't mind a 100 megapixel camera... but I don't even max out my skills with my 24 megapixel lol! BUT -- I really enjoyed the comparison, will have to go back and watch some of the segments again. I really like how you show in your videos the dynamic range w/the files/images. Honestly I never learned to expose properly for highlights... (I didn't own LR/PS - so I never edited photos and did much "recovery" of photos) ..always tried to get the subject exposed, ignored the rest (mistake!) watching your videos gave me insight, esp after some recent photos I took of family friends and trying to use Lightroom. I've seen some DR stuff from other youtubers on reviews...but don't know why maybe your delivery or lay out is why it stuck? - Just wanted to say thanks and share that!

    I have been using a GFX 50s ii this week and noticed the grainy screen. I found that by turning off Natural Live View and going into the IQ settings and changing the Tone Curve Shadow value to the lowest value, -2, and changing the Film Simulation to either Eterna or Pro Neg Hi, the grainy screen is greatly reduced if not eliminated.

    • @SNAPAVELI

      Thank you!! I’ll try that. Does it change the color of the screen a lot?

    • @sshapiro63
      @sshapiro63 Год назад +1

      @@SNAPAVELI I think those simulations provide a very flat display, similar to what the raw file would look like. I expect the grainy screen will also be impacted by the amount of ambient light in every situation, but those settings did give me the best results. I believe author Rico Pfirstinger recommends the following settings, for Fujifilm cameras, to ensure the EVF/LCD show a display as close to the raw file as possible: Natural Live View = Off, Film Simulation = Eterna, Shadow Tone = -2, Highlight Tone = -2, Color = -4. NOTE: Setting Natural Live View = On is useful in high contrast scenes where you need to see more of the shadows during composition.

    Superb work. Many thanks for your herculean efforts in running both cameras through their paces. Magenta is an issue in Fuji files. A big issue. The RAW output seems riddled with it and often its hard to get rid of it if you don't want it. Having had the old 50 before the 100 I will agree that the old sensor has even more of a magenta bias to its RAW output. Ive been playing with files from the Hasselblad x2D. They are radically different in colour rendition - you have to go hunting for anything in the purple- magenta range,

  • @sebastiang7183

    The spectral highlight handing seems to always look better on the 50S. I am not sure if that is due to the body or not as the composition is not 100% the same, but looks like a pattern from the images you showed.

The local store sent me both the 100 ii and the 50ii and I ended up keeping the 50sii and I shoot professionally every day! I found the 100sii files to be unnecessarily large and the comparison between the 2 files wasn’t enough to justify the price difference. Unless you do landscape/architecture the 50sii is perfect! I purchased 2 bodies to have a backup which I was able to do with the price difference. You have to use the right camera for your style and workflow. I don’t use high frame rate burst. I’m shoot slower and intentionally so medium format digital is perfect. The Pentax 645z and the Fuji gfx 50sii are now my everyday cameras!

I can get very similar results from my Canon 5DS in live view using contrast based face detect compared to the 50Sii. The 100S was much better but then again, my A7R4 blows it out of the water in terms of AF. I really want to love these Fuji cameras, especially for the dynamic range but they need to start taking AF more seriously. These are big expensive cameras using great lenses but it's really a head scratcher as to why focusing(speed) is not a priority in the Fuji camp?
