    Hi guys! Welcome back to my channel :) In today's video I'm sharing with you a healthy grocery haul - everything I purchased will help to get us through (at least) 5 days of healthy, affordable eating! I show you everything I bought (from both Wegman's & Trader Joes), how much I spent, PLUS 5 healthy dinner ideas I made with what I bought. Obviously I do not purchase every single food item we need every week (thank god!!) so there may be some other foods incorporated into the meal ideas as well as what we eat throughout the week for breakfast & lunch :) Which meal idea would you guys like to see a recipe video on next?? Let me know down in the comments below!
    Hope you guys enjoy! xx Becca

    After researching I also buy those same exact pasture raised eggs! Yes they are more but we eat a lot of eggs and I want the most nutritious possible for me and my kids. Also, it's funny how some will have no problem spending $5 on a Starbucks coffee but give me a strange look for spending the same for a dozen eggs!

    question on the organic topic! i know that a lot of produce found in grocery stores comes from other countries, such as Mexico, which have completely different regulations and restrictions on what they consider to be "organic". obviously labels that have "US Organic" are from the states. my question is, do you think it's more important to buy local or "organic" if faced with the choice? for example, if i'm starting at organic asparagus shipped from Mexico versus nonorganic that has been grown in the town over from me, which do you think is the safest bet? i know that they can stil be filled with pesticides and chemicals if produced from the town over from me, but i'm curious if maybe "organic" in other countries could be grown similarly.

    • @BeccaBristow
      @BeccaBristow  7 лет назад +1

      I do! Usually pick out 5 meals for the week (we do repeat meals every 2 weeks or so just to keep it easy and straightforward) and then I just purchase whatever I need for our breakfast/lunch for the week + the items I need for the meals! (if I don't already have them)

    They have that brand of mayo at Costco and I've been LOVING it! It tastes great, it's so much more convenient than making my own at home, and it's clean! I was making my own mayo for a while because after Whole30, I realized that soy really does inflame my digestive system, heartburn out the wazoo! I love that there's a clean option with no soybean oil.

    • @BeccaBristow

      I'm honestly not much of a chip person! However, I do LOVE tortilla chips. But I don't buy them unless I need them (like if we're having people over or something and I want to put them out) because if they're in the house I will overeat them haha so I just don't really buy them regularly. Hope this helps :)

    Hi! Love your videos! I am giving intuitive eating a try after years of (unsuccessful) dieting. Your food videos help me so much!
    While I am sure that is a perfectly reasonable budget for organic foods, I did have to chuckle a bit at your food budget. Your weekly good budget roughly the same as my total budget for food, household items, diapers, etc. for 7 people 😂 Not surprisingly, I don't buy organic. Lol.

    My husband and I love the dried mango from TJs as well. That brand of pasta isn't too bad. It was not my favorite but I get it every once in a while. I used to make a whole chicken a lot as well and ended up buying their bulk chicken breasts instead.

    • @BeccaBristow
      @BeccaBristow  7 лет назад +1

      Ugh the dried mango seriously is SO good! And I like to switch it up with pasta, sometimes we go traditional or sometimes we try something a little different! And we also get bulk chicken breasts - love those for making shredded chicken!

    • @BrittanyLaurenWhalen
      @BrittanyLaurenWhalen 7 лет назад

      It is so funny how much we have in common. When I first moved in with my husband (engaged at the time) we would make whole chickens all the time. Now I am lazy and just throw the 2 chicken breasts in the oven for 30 mins and put them on salads. I workout all the time after work so I have to be quick when it comes to dinners!

    Organic is a choice and I respect your choice, however I would like to mention a few things. With having a college degree in agriculture science and growing up on a generation family farm, hearing you say that organic is better for the farms and the farmers is very far off. I'm only writing this comment because I wouldn't be advocating for my background and my education and field of work if I didn't step in. The reason organic is so much more expensive is because it's harder to produce a substantial amount of yields and in order to be organic farm ground would have to sit for years to have all the chemicals dissipate in order start an organic farm. That's simply not feasible for people who's income is farming. One big point I would like to make is that without the chemicals and nutrients that make crops inorganic we wold have significantly lower yields which means less product and there would be no way to sustain the quantity of food and grain needed in the world without those added items. You're opinion and your choice are totally up to you I would just like you to be completely informed before you make comments. Thank you for reading, big fan of your videos

    • @BeccaBristow
      @BeccaBristow  7 лет назад +12

      Hi Tae! Thank you so much for the input & sharing your knowledge. I 100% see where you are coming from, but my comment about organic being 'better for the farmers/farm workers' was about not having to come in close contact with these chemicals. Whether or not chemical/pesticide residues on food directly causes cancer in consumers, the research isn't concrete. But handling the chemicals on a daily basis has been linked with higher cancer rates. I realize that farmers are kind of stuck - they obviously have to run a business, but at the same time I think it is SO unfortunate that farmers are in this position to begin with.. where they are forced to use chemicals & pesticides in order to make a living instead of just growing real food. It's not the fault of the farmers, it's the fault of this food system that has been created here in the US. I personally would like to limit my consumption of these chemical residues, because we don't know exactly what they are doing to our bodies. My hope is that if more people adopt that mentality, and purchasing organic produce becomes more popular of more the norm, the food system can shift so that organic farming isn't so difficult or unattainable. Just my thoughts...and also about the decreased yields with organic produce (which is totally true) this is another issue I feel has been created in this backwards food system we have. SO MUCH food goes to waste every year, so I feel like the standards & yields the farmers have to reach or produce is just so ridiculous! I think we have become so used to the idea that you can walk into any grocery store and any kind of produce you could ever want (in season or not) will be fully stocked & available, which really is just kind of crazy. But maybe I'm wrong on that. Would love to hear your thoughts on that!

    • @enigmagirl6797
      @enigmagirl6797 7 лет назад +4

      Becca Bristow It's a myth that organic means less chemicals. The herbicide used in organic produce can actually be more toxic. Please do a Google search on this subject.

    • @jesusislord9755
      @jesusislord9755 7 лет назад +1

      Enigma Girl If you buy organic and local then it should have very little to no herbicides. But if you live in the U.S. and you buy organic apples from New Zealand for example, they are going to have tons of herbicides

    Hello there, have you considered this kind of diet plan known as the Okibetonic Secrets? My work buddy says it helps people lost plenty of weight. Is that possible? I also read numerous excellent review about this diet plan. Thoughts?

    Yes exactly - we vote with our food dollar!! So how can you justify buying animal produce when you know the ethical/environmental issues it causes in 2017!

      Patty kay it's so yummy!! I put a tablespoon (you can just use organic butter as well)to about 10 0z. of coffee IN THE BLENDER! Blast on high for about 10 seconds. You can add honey or maple too! If you're a creamer and sweetener type person then you may not care for it too much. Just remember that butter and ghee is basically heavy cream so that's why it really works for us.

    Organic is not better for agriculture, either. It just makes farming more difficult.
