…all the wonderful and adorable female singers before and after. However there is and will always be Maria Callas. Her art is cultural heritage of mankind as long as humanity exists on earth. Mi piace moltissimo
Maria Callas foi incrível e única na sua voz e na sua vida tocada pelos deuses! Eterna!Um legado mundial! A História não a esquecerá e a História só lembra seres excepcionais!
The biggest contribution to her vocal health was the fact that she had dermatomyositis which is an autoimmune disease. It was only confirmed upon her death that she had been living with that disease and that is more than likely also what really killed her. People afflicted with any kind of autoimmune disease usually have a shortened life span if they do not find the issue and get medical help to manage it. I myself have Lupus and it is a daily struggle making it through life let alone a vocal lesson or operatic role. The constant swelling of tissue’s. ( vocal folds included) and organ failure is an on going battle for anyone who has an autoimmune disease of any kind. I am lucky enough to study with Marquita Lister who also has an autoimmune disease she helps me make sense of it all but keeping in mind that time period was different and medicine may not have even had a suitable form of treatment yet for her disease.
Kevin an autoimune illness is the mind telling you through vthe body that sth is not ok. After my psychotherapy all my physical symptoms, allergies, muscle scrumps, insomnia, body swelling and water storing disappered, my sensitive colon stopped being sensitive. If you can afford therapy, do it. You will feel great.
Oh please! Not another weight loss queen! She was 10 times the singer in the late 50s, not to mention the greatest operatic artist who has ever lived. She simply stopped using so much chest voice and began to sing more lyrically, using leggera technique rather than dramatic coloratura. Her singing was full of brilliant insights and nuances from1955-1962, the more high notes she blew, the better her performance overall.
@@Mimi-ey5ej I know all this, and I am a great callas fan, but ist does not mean, that i could not prefere her time, when the voice was in full force and possibilities. Callas made opera history-interpretation between 1949 and 1955 (Lady Macbeth, Abigaille, Armida, Lucia, Traviata, Norma, Leonora,Medea). later she was beautyful with your sentenses "the more high notes she blew, the better her performance overall".But it was not Opera -Historical. Please don't be only a FAN:)
As Callas herself said many times, in the beginning her voice was more "untamed" and she learned to control it more and "cover her voice with a veil", let's say, and full-reveal it only at times. There are many factors that shape the voice, including, yes, the weight-loss, aging, excessive use folowed by extreme protection, emotional issues... it's very complex to judge something that was, at any time, virtuoso in its own color and timbre. I think the early Callas just impressed more (I personally think it's the "peak") because of the power, but after, her singing became more charged with emotions due to her real life and aging. The fans should appreciate these nuances. They can't be REALLY compared because each one brings a new "shade" to her life-repertoire. I'd hate if we had only one version of a Callas aria. Lol. It wouldn't be enough.
Thank you so much for this. I hate the ignorant weight loss comments. Callas herself mentioned in an interview that she used to push her voice a lot. The interview is right here in RUclips. She also taught in her masterclass that one should never push the voice or sing on a bad throat. People that have knowledge of voice would understand this.
Superlative , extraterrestre !
The D6 from Puritani Finale and the D6 from Armida are probably the 2 biggest D6 ever in recorded history. Also the Eb6 in Armidas finale is just as huge as the AIda one!
@@BestOperaMoments i know it was originally in French. The Italian version with recitatives is quite difficult in many passages. Still, he build so much momentum in this whole ten minutes, I feel regardless of the language is a difficult note to get it right
I am just surprised you didn't include ruclips.net/video/okWyIUHTDHQ/видео.html 5:55 D' amore al dolce impero the big theme and variation from Armida. That series of high notes culminating in a D5 are my favorites. I was unfamiliar with the Medea selection. That D' amore al dolce impero was from 52. She did it in concert two years later and the volume above the staff had been greatly diminished after her weight loss. She could still reliably sing above the staff up till about 56, but not with the gigantic voice shown in yours and my selections. Joan Sutherland sang with her back then and said her voice was titanic. What is outstanding in my selection is most of the rest of Armida has such dreadful sound but here in the cleaned up version it has really good mono sound.
@@MetaMind-r2s No, but Callas was in much much better voice. Armida is famous for it's awful sound but for some reason that aria is better than most of the rest. She never sounded that powerful after 1952.
@@nwdixieboy I find her voice really iconic and great when she sang armida aria in 1954 too but I agree with you that she lost a lot of power after the weight loss. After all, fat Callas is the best singer ever lived !

I sang an Aida with Marquita…29 years ago in Mexico!

Greatness like this will never be heard again. 👑🙏💙. Grazie Amico mio. 🇫🇷 Arnold Bourbon Amaral
Her Il trovatore and Aida in 1950 were huge too.
SUPERHUMAN CALLAS !!!! Maria the breath of God !!!!!!
Madre mía!!!Increíble escuchar esto..Gracias.
I love the photo. THIS is grand opera.
This is one of my favorite images too. So commanding. Almost dowdy in style yet Imperial in manner. Compelling.
And the C#6 of the Puritani finale
Majestuosa ! 💓
between 1949 and 1955 she could sing every note of the opera repertoire of the 19. century

Superhuman Callas!!!
No hay necesidad de comentar ,solo escuchar...cantando lo dice y remueve todo
My choices are the exact same as yours. Great video!
Thank you once again Marx 7811.......great work.🙂👌
That last note from the end of act 2 of Medea is just ridiculous! Cherubini was not playing around when he composed this
Cherubini did not write it as so, Callas omitted the entire phrase and replaced it with this unreal high C instead... Crazy

The great.
Where's her Tosca high C in 1951?

L'unica coloratura a voce piena che ho ascoltato, qunti colori ha dato a questo terrificante finale?
