  • As schools throughout the country shut their doors in the face of a viral pandemic, students have entered a new world of education, by learning remotely through online classes and paper packets. How is the current reality of education compromising the effects of personal, one-on-one instruction, especially for learners who are struggling? And how will this environment affect the grades of high school juniors aiming toward college acceptance? Correspondent Erin Moriarty talks with educators, parents and students about classwork when the classroom is closed.

That kid, Joshua, is something special, grit and determination. CBS owes us a follow up in 5 years when he graduates college. I’d love to see where he is going.

The situation that we are currently in requires approaching problems from different perspectives, in the education sector its not been easy to adapt to a new way of learning through online classes because were used to having presential classes and having a teacher in the classroom who can organize different activities for us to learn in a better environment. We don't have the same schedule or program since there are many events that cannot take place due to the online conferences or sessions, its definitely a drastic change that has caused many students to get lower grades but there are also many who have had an improvement their grades and even work better with this new program.
Even though taking online classes will never be the same as presencial ones, specially for little kids, it is a good method for education for situations like this'd adapts really well to a lot of schools itineraries Every teacher and student who has tried online classes has his own experience and works in a different way but we have to try and bring out the best that we can to keep learning.

Im a senior in nursing school. Or should I say I was.
I was kicked out after scoring below a 77 % in threw of four classes this semester.
I wrote 40 page papers every week
We have 4 classes and three clinicals so we have 7 classes too.
I studied 3 hours per lesson.
My school tested on material not in the powerpoints or study guides.
With no help from faculty they failed 60% of the seniors and said the "standards are the stardards."
I paid for my own schooling and have lost 18 thousands this semester with the school expecting me to retake the same classes and pay 18 more

Thanks for this piece covering education during covid 19. I am a teacher and a parent. Teachers at my school participated in a 2 week Google classroom training, which was overwhelming and caused major anxieties. Then I worried about my parents navigating this platform. Happy to say so far so good, but the struggle is real. We teachers are home doing our jobs but it's not the same. I miss my Kindergarten babies.

@Tonyia Ruddock, keep you children AWAY from Google, the ultimate spy and data stealing Big Tech. monsters. Use Duck Duck Go. No wonder people wonder how all of their data and bank accounts are hacked, because they are using Google, as a search engine.

I...undetstand schools using this "option" per normal times, but nothing is better than face-to-face education(ie: the "classroom").Computers...have there place, but I don't wish to see even more..."geekiness" than is already out there. Hopefully, a cure for this nasty virus, soon.

    Difficult, yes. Doable? Also, yes.
The beautiful thing about being human is our ability to adapt and conquer challenges. Virtual education poses different challenges for learning. How do we constructively help all students (AND educators!) to succeed?

I wonder how online high school would of worked out, if I were back in high school during covid. I was in high school in the late 90s early 2000s, so not sure how they would of done schooling. I mean today you have zoom, smart phones, etc, you didn't have those things back then, curious how "online school" would of been like back then if we had covid pandemic.

you know where we can get free Education
    Is home not schools
would you risk your life for Education than Our Lives
to me is NO because if we died from covid-19 at school
there be no one to teach
because the Teacher have no kids to teach because they all tested for covid-19 and got positive

I work in the operations end of schools. We work in the buildings and for many more hours and days than teachers. We worked through the peak of COVID only to listen to the whining of teachers being worried. What about us? So, we don’t matter, but teachers do? Worked through summer school, sticking our faces in the air handling equipment and changing the filtration systems. But they all want to work from home now. Thanks.
