@@kariukidennis1542 Now is really not the time to be arguing about what to call the country. It is the time to rally the world about the injustices perpetrated by France against the Kanak people for centuries and their case for independence. As of now, the world knows the country as New Caledonia and those who are searching for news about what is happening there are using that name. After independence, the Kanak people will be free to change the name to the Republic of Kanaki(y). ❤

France and other Western countries need to be exposed for their Atrocities against black people during colonization they all get away with it because no one spoke about it. Even today, very little is said .King Leopold of Belgium killed more blacks than Hitler killed Jews but nothing is said in the Western countries they rather spread propaganda about the African justifying their atrocities, but nothing about their exploitation.

Under the code de l'indigénat (1887 - 1946), the Kanaks were also subjected to forced labor, restriction of their movement, impot de capitation(taxes that the colonial powers collected from every Kanak).
The Kanaks were confined into reservation and compelled to do forced labor for the settlers and public work. The meager salary they earned from the forced labor had to be used to pay the head tax or impot de capitation. Thus the forced labor turned out to be actually slave labor, although France supposedly abolished slavery in 1848. They faced social and spatial segregation. While official segregation was supposed to be abolished after the termination of code de l'idigenat, the Kanaks continue to face de facto segregation. For example, throughout the 1960's they needed permission from their employers to simply go downtown.

The islanders were first introduced into Queensland in 1847 for employment on cotton plantations; in succeeding years they formed the cheap-labour base on which the sugar industry was built. By 1900 more than 60,000 islanders had been recruited in a manner that often amounted to kidnapping.,theres nowhere mention about New Caledonia people .

@@ThePatgilbert It’s shameful and untrustworthy to continue lying forcing descendants of the enslaved to accept the false narrative cooked by Europeans. In the western world whenever these people especially Africans raise the question of Slave Capture by Europeans the likes of you quickly jump in to defend whatever happened years ago, and in some cases it still continues to happen. “Africans sold their own people to European slave traders” is the false narrative we all continue to hear especially from the Right Wing movement! What about the Slavery of the Pacific Islanders these Africans are asking?? Did the Europeans buy them as well? Even buying stolen “goods” is still a crime. Western Europe in the past did this horrible crime and it is called Slave Capture and obtained the capital and again raw materials from the captured territories called Colonies to start the Industrial Revolution. That is why we are still rich! History teaches us the lesson not to repeat these mistakes. Unfortunately every single crime is being repeated with denial! Look at how the ADOS(African Descendants of Slaves) are still treated in the entire Americas! France still holding 50% of all national reserves of its 14 “ex-African colonies” with military bases! At present the Sahel is burn and the youth is swimming across the Mediterranean. We can’t pay every cent back but we could have helped develop and raise the standard of living as we did just a generation ago in Eastern Europe! I just want a single example where the natives up till now are treated exactly as European settlers not in words but in practice! It’s a shame! So far not a single country in our western world is calling the French out yet we go about preaching democracy to others as champions of sanity and positive thinking!

Forced labor in the 19th century was unfortunately not only practiced in New Caledonia, but throughout the world. In Africa it is widely practiced by Arabs and Turks, in the year 1863 alone, 70,000 black slaves were sold in Karthoum by Egyptian traffickers. These facts must be placed in their contemporary context; the practice of serfdom was only officially abolished in Russia in 1861. The treatment of workers in the large industrial cities of Europe at that time was close to forced labor. ..

Slavery was abolished in France in 1848 and since this practice is a punishable crime against the French law. There was no enslavement of New Caledonian people by France for New Caledonia became a French colony late after 1848, unless you famous youtube historians provide us with some historical references so then we may know how Slavery ended in this part of the world and the date of its abolition!
