I am a Melanesian as well from Solomon Islands...There are five melanesian countries in the Pacific: Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Fiji, Vanuatu and New Caledonia...I am so familiar with the Four Melanesian countries except for New Caledonia...Today, i decided to gain/ learn more from this country and i hope to travel to this country sooner...As a Solomon Islander, i know if i go there, i will definitely have a lot of Similarities with the Kanaks ( Melanesian sisters & brothers)...I love them very much...so much desperate to go there and interact with them....

New caledonia is a country that hasn't had its own independence yet . The country has a form of autonomy, but it is still a French territory. Black people (Kanaks) are not treated fairly. The majority actually wants their country back from French colonial rule .

I was born on this beautiful island and unfortunately we had to move in the late 70s because of another uprising. I'm not too familiar but I do recall certain events as a young child. My nanny was a kanak and she was amazing From what my mother told me about her. We all spoke French And she was treated like family. I am now in the USA. I wish everyone on this beautiful island the best , stay safe ❤❤❤❤

This video, very partisan, omits many elements. China and Australia and New Zealand strongly support the independence movement. Today, China has the most influence with the independence movement. We can very well imagine what is the scenario projected by the Chinese for New Caledonia. 3 referendums took place which all rejected independence. Today the archipelago enjoys a wide political autonomy and fortunately many Kanaks are not fooled by the "disinterested" friendship of some countries for their archipelago and its natural resources.
I believe New Zealand and Australia are only interested in the Anglo-Saxon economic domination of New Caledonia.

Polynesian genetics are not the same as Africans, they are too far apart. Native American looks Asian, doesn’t mean I go to them and say they looks like Asians.

The problem lies in that without a full functioning government system a new independent country can go down in no-time. Just some unstable violence and tourism stops in a heartbeat and the income source stops. It’s a very challenging situation where it can go good or bad.

Destroying businesses doesn't improve things I would think in terms of the economic opportunities. It's such a small number of people, I hope they can work it out and people can maintain there traditional lifestyles, and will not have their villages torn down and be forced into industrial jobs like the Uyghurs in China.
Historically the origin of the Kanaks was unclear we talking by Europeans. Kanak is a Hawaiian phrase could be for person. But it was used by Europeans in that region for any tribe not European. Like the indigenous Taiwanese small black people. There was some migration of tribes of Oceania. Also the Negritos little black Filipinos native tribes. New research results shows genetics from DNA testing that Australian aboriginal and Melanesians emerged out of African migration to those islands. Kanak are 41.2% of today's New Caledonia population. There had been a Kanak revolt in 1878 but the French put it down killing it's leadership. They had been put as forced labour on planations and ranches for many years. So yes they look African as they some of the earliest people out of Africa.
