    My dermatologist told me when I 20 years old, stay away from sun and use sunscreen, and 15 years later I can tell you this is the best advice for my skin, I see a huge difference with other people, my skin look much. younger she clear with no sunspots, my face is still full because my dermis is not damaged by the sun. I use retin a and I do some peel since also my 20 oh my gosh my skin looks just amazing. Collagen and elastin are the mattress of the skin so take care of them.

      I’m 17, I was suffering from acne for 1.5 yrs until I finally went to the derm and asked for Accutane, I am now on 3 months and finished with 6 months. After Accutane I plan on maintaining my skin with Tazorac and sunscreen as well. My skin has improved so much on Accutane and I am so blessed my skin is finally clear, it gave me the motivation to keep on going and care for my skin for life!

      Hi Donna Bowman,
      Tretinoin can help with cell turnover of the epidermis, and improve luster of the skin. There are versions of tretinoin specifically for skincare, as Retin-A can be too drying or irritating. My observation is that there is too much attention on skincare for anti-aging, and not enough to address volumetric loss due to aging. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      @@AmiyaPrasadMD Can you expand on your idea that there are limitations to how much collagen can be stimulated through in office treatments like RF and Laser?
      I saw a comment from you that the body’s ability to replenish collagen dips 1% every year, but that doesn’t seem like a meaningful amount to me. Seems like a nominal amount to me. Are you saying that for someone in their 40s and up they are actually getting diminishing returns on collagen stimulation?

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  2 года назад

      Hi@@thad8909,
      Collagen in the skin is reduced by 1% every year, so with aging the skin loses its strength and elasticity, eventually resulting in skin laxity.
      While collagen induction treatments work, there isn't an unlimited amount of collagen you can induce the body to synthesize. Complications from these treatments usually happen when someone wants to avoid surgery, so they insist on stimulating more collagen to tighten, and lift the skin, but end up damaging the skin, and losing facial volume, so they end up looking older instead of younger, and could also suffer injuries like burns. For more information, you can refer to these videos about complications from collagen induction therapy, and how these treatments can be made safer:

    Question: If your treatment for facial aging at the bone level is to put hyaluronic acid fillers between the muscle and bone, then how does the facial muscle stay attached? Won't it slide and cause sagging? Yes, the muscles are attached at each end of the muscle, but won't it begin to bow if detached from the bone with filler?

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD

      Hi Paula Adesokan,
      I don't use Ulthera as the heat is sudden, not gradual. I do laser skin tightening and/or resurfacing in addition to surgical blepharoplasty, not to replace it. • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  5 лет назад +12

      Hyaluronic acid fillers are placed on top of the bone, not through it, and hyaluronic acid fillers do not metabolize bone, so there is no effect on the integrity of bone. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  3 года назад +1

      Hi Amber Soots,
      I recommend 4 to 6 weeks between treatment sessions, as there is a limit to how much collagen can be induced. Collagen production is part of the healing process, so you need to leave adequate time between sessions for collagen to generate. Using more than one mode of treatment at the same time depends on the patient, and their condition, but it's possible. I often alternate laser treatments with PRP to reduce heat exposure to the patient. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  3 года назад +2

      Hi,
      Facial bone volume loss is usually concentrated on the cheeks, jawline, and chin, so these are the primary areas of treatment. Diminishing skin quality usually occurs a little earlier than significant bone loss, but for many people, they are experiencing both at the same time, and both can be treated. • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  3 года назад +2

      Hi,
      Microneedling with a Dermapen is different from a dermaroller. A dermaroller unnecessarily stretches the microholes it creates with the rolling action, which the pen does not do. Also, dermarollers are usually used by people without formal training in microneedling, so they can be used too aggressively and too often, as compared with a professional with the pen, and giving adequate time for healing and collagen generation between treatment sessions. I hope this clarifies things for you.

At this moment I can't really afford to see you, but I am saving my money to get that appointment. 😊😊😊😊 I went to a Clinic that was listed on Groupon. (Dumb Idea) The technician could'nt draw blood from me. She said my veins where small. What you mentioned in this video regarding people are not well trained and don't know what they're doing, is true. She stuck me several times leaving bruises. Having small veins is it a signal that I have some type of health problem? Do you have where your office could take insurance for certain procedures? I do have hypothyroidism. Again thank so much for your videos!

    Oh, the money we’ve spent on creams and supplements for the skin to prevent and stop aging. These companies swear the products work. Those rose colored glasses make us believe anything. The only applied cream that has shown me difference is prescription Retin A and it must be used on a regular basis over time for me to see results. I still use moisturizers/creams but for the reason of hydration and they make my skin feel better, too. But, as the Doctor here stated the results are temporary and these mainly just moisturize. Great video here that everyone should see. 🌈👀

      Your body synthesizes collagen from all the food you eat. If you eat collagen, your body will still digest it, then synthesize it before it becomes collagen again. Hi Sandy Mahdavi,
      You may have had postpartum hair shedding, which is normal after having a baby due to hormonal changes, but this usually requires no treatment, just an eventual stabilization of hormone levels. You should first be diagnosed for female pattern hair loss or other issues that require treatment like PCOS before thinking of medication. I hope this helps you.

      @AmiyaPrasadMD  5 лет назад +1

      Hi Ruma Walke,
      Thank you! I'm glad you found the video helpful! It is possible, but it depends on the area being treated, the issue being treated, and the extent of damage or aging. A physical exam is needed to determine the best treatment for you, and also to try the treatment to see how you respond. Collagen induction treatments usually take more than one treatment session for best results, so it is often a treat, observe, then treat again type of scenario. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  5 лет назад +1

      Hi Jenna Steward,
      There is no specific treatment that is best for inducing collagen in everyone, as there are several treatments available depending on skin type, and the body does have a limit in how much collagen can be induced at one time. I do recommend alternating collagen induction treatments, say a laser in one session, then PRP the next, to prevent overexposure and overheating with laser devices. I hope this clarifies things for you.

PRP may take more than one treatment session for best results. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      Hi Irene Delpiano,
      I don't use this device specifically, but I generally don't recommend devices that cook the fat layer, and reduce facial volume that can make someone look older. I find that many people who consider these treatments already have thin skin, so volume enhancement is often recommended to put volume between the skin and the bone structure. A physical exam is needed to determine the treatments I would recommend for you. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      Hi Brooke Mitchell,
      Lasers usually more intense than radiofrequency devices. However, it is not the laser device itself that determines results, or the risk, but the practitioner selecting and using the device that determines results, and increases or reduces the risk of the procedure. I can't say what's best for your skin without examining your skin first. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    Dr Prasad, since you seem very straight forward in your approach I'd like to ask you what your thoughts are on a basically unspoken subject no plastic surgeon or surgeons in general will speak about. And, that is the FACT, as it's been proven, that surgery involving general anesthesia does sometimes, more often than not, more harm than good to a patient? There's much data, research and evidence that patients, especially later in life after 50 who undergo surgery involving anesthesia are more likely to establish cognitive impairment and ultimately Alzheimers and Dementia, as well as overall memory loss. As well, anesthesia to the overall body & mind is harmful. In fact, surgery can create a plethora of health problems against what we are trying to "fix" & avoid in having plastic surgery and that, among many things is an assault to the body, face and in turn creating free radical damage and an overall decline in health. I wish there were more HONEST Doctors out there that would speak up on this ongoing issue. People trust the medical community and look to you as healers, but the truth is the majority of doctors are more concerned with making money than the hippocratic oath they swore to "Do No Harm".
    Many reputable surgeons are starting to realize the harm in general anesthesia and are now taking a more - less evasive approach by using local anesthesia with sometimes iv sedation.
    I myself have had to go under general anesthesia many times and have personally noticed a HUGE decline in my memory and overall health. Please respond with your thoughts...

      Hi@@kiranm7084,
      You won't likely lose collagen while on a diet, but you do need to be careful with your diet as collagen is synthesized by the body with food you eat. You will likely look older while you're on a diet because you will lose facial fat volume, and as people age, they do lose facial volume from loss of fat, bone, muscle, and soft tissue. Collagen does diminish with age as well, and we lose about 1% a year starting in your 20s. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      While I do know colleagues in California, we do have different aesthetic styles. I suggest you research doctors in your area and look at their before and after results to see a style that resonates with you. I hope this helps you.

      Hi@@alvaradomario3445,
      An oculoplastic/oculofacial surgeon like myself are more specialized in eyelid procedures than general plastic or general cosmetic surgeons. There are cosmetic surgeons who do more specialized procedures for the eyelids, while plastic surgeons are more generalists. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      Use of PRP varies with doctors, so you will have to ask about it specifically. I was one of the first cosmetic, and oculoplastic surgeons to administer PRP for cosmetic medicine, and watched other colleagues over the years adopt it. I hope this helps you.

    How can we use collagen then

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  2 года назад +1

      Hi Hayat Ali,
      The protein collagen is very important for skin quality, strength, and suppleness, and the body can be stimulated to synthesize collagen in specific treatment areas. However, if you are asking about collagen supplements, there is nothing special about them because they are digested like any other food before the body synthesizes its own collagen. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      Hi@@hayatali,
      As already answered, consuming collagen powder, even if it's organic, still gets digested like other food before the body synthesizes it to collagen it can use.
      Injecting collagen to specific areas is not a safe or predictable procedure. The body synthesizes the collagen it needs, which is done through the collagen induction treatments featured in the video. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  3 года назад

      Hi Gen T,
      There needs to be enough heat for the body to recognize an injury before collagen is induced. I strongly advise you have an experienced doctor do this, and you don't try it at home with a device as you can end up making things worse without proper training. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      Hi Saba Nabi,
      Scar treatment like acne scarring is best assessed in a physical exam by an experienced doctor, then addressed by a treatment plan that could involve several modalities and multiple treatments. While pictures may help, they don't give details about your skin that a physical exam can provide. You can get actionable advice by booking an in-person consultation with me, or see an experienced doctor closer to where you live. You can also watch this video about why treatment varies so much depending on the person and their situation - ruclips.net/video/1AIRQbIuPrM/видео.html

      Hi Ejer Peralta,
      If this was recommended by an experienced doctor who has examined your skin, than you should consider it. I have not seen your situation, so I can't make exact recommendations for you. You should note that your results are determined by your doctor's experience with the laser, not the device itself. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      Hi Linda Janssen,
      The Fotona laser is featured in the video. However, it’s important to remember that the laser itself does not cause complications like facial volume loss, nor does it determine successful results, but rather the experience and judgment of the doctor using the laser or other device. The device is just a tool, and it’s the doctor’s judgment using the tool that separates great results from ineffectiveness, or potential complications. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    I get you when you said how dietary collagen will be broken by our digestive system but i wonder why our cells wouldn’t use the protein molecules to make collagen for our skin to replace the ones we lose. So the phrase “we are what we eat” is kind of wrong. But shouldnt good things eg dietary vitamic C and anti-oxidants in fruits do our skin good? I thought people who take such things whether as supplements or in fresh food would result in better skin? Is this not scientifically proven, or is it just a myth or are the results hits and misses?

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  4 года назад +1

      Hi Grateful Princess of God,
      The phrase is not necessarily wrong because while the body can synthesize collagen from a variety of foods and nutrients, the body does not synthesize vitamin C and antioxidants, which it does need to maintain health. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    • @wem-c9f
      @wem-c9f 4 года назад

      @@AmiyaPrasadMD Good point, Dr. I wonder then why wouldn't our cells use the building blocks of digested collagen proteins we eat to rebuild collagen. I wonder if it's all coded in our DNA so as we age, we are not capable to do so anymore. We can do all that we can with modern science and money, but eventually there's nothing much left to do except to have sagging skin and bone volume loss and inevitable ageing. :/

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  4 года назад +1

      Hi@@wem-c9f,
      Digested animal collagen can still be synthesized into collagen by the body, but other digested foods are also used by the body to synthesize collagen. Collagen in the body declines by about 1% a year after age 25, which is why treatments like lasers, radiofrequency, and PRP are used to stimulate additional collagen production as aging treatments. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    I spent $1400 on Juvederm that was suppose to last 2 years on my marionette lines. After the swelling went down nada NOTHING. My marionette lines were still there. Dr. told me my body absorbed it quickly. Is that true. If so, $1,400 down the drain or toilet I should say.

      Hi Donna Bowman,
      Sorry to hear about your problem. Without details of your treatment, I can't tell how much actual filler your doctor used. When I place filler for marionette lines, I place it deeper at the bone level, which is a stronger foundation than the soft tissue, so it can support more filler without looking soft and doughy, and actually looks more firm and defined. You can refer to these videos about it:

      Hi Adeolu Adeyinka,
      It is unlikely that a corticosteroid caused thinning of your eyelid skin, unless you have another skin condition. I would have to diagnose the cause with a skin examination before recommending a specific treatment. I hope this helps you.

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  4 года назад +3

      Hi tectonicblond,
      You are mistaken as I say that laser devices are just tools, and it is the practitioner using them that determines results, and complications like volume loss and skin thinning. With proper use and exposure, lasers can stimulate collagen, resurface the skin, and tighten the skin. With overheating and overexposure, lasers can thin the skin, and cook the fat layer below the skin, causing volume loss. Again, it is proper use of lasers by an experienced practitioner that improves your appearance; but overheating and overexposure by an inexperienced practitioner, or patients demanding a lifting effect to avoid surgery that leads to overheating and overexposure, that causes complications. I hope this clarifies things for you.
