      @Owen I came into the church Easter of 2001 after a lifetime of being Southern Baptist. It just felt like home. We are so fortunate to have men like Dr Pitre, Dr Bergsma, Scott Hahn & Edward Sri. They have all helped me to deepen my faith and understand how our Lord fulfilled the old testament teachings

      @@michaellewis9065 Same; Easter of 2001. Though I wasn't a Southern Baptist before. Really wasn't part of any denomination, as I grew up relatively unchurched and then in my 30s started wondering what this was all about, so I toggled between attending a Lutheran Church and a Baptist young adults group out of geographic convenience.

    I always thought that the transfiguration was really meant for Peter, James and John because Jesus knew Peter would deny him and Jesus also knew that James and John were called the sons of thunder which means they were easily filled with such anger that if its uncontrolled or not used well it can lead to their own downfall. Angry people kill and then rethink about their mistakes so that was my reasoning for these two. Also James and John were the disciples that accepted to drink the Lords cup because they were willing to sit at the Lords right and left side in Paradise but Jesus said it was not his decision to decide. Also the transfiguration explains or shows us how much of a change all of Christ's disciples can become. We are his children and like children we must change through prayer, meditation, and alms giving to the poor and be humble to serve those who are least among us and then the radical change will happen to us inside and out. This is exactly what ends up happening to Peter, James and John. Peter repents and becomes the first Pope, James is the first disciple to be martyred by being beheaded showing that he was worthy to drink the cup of the Lord, and John becomes the disciple whom Jesus Loved the most not saying Jesus didn't love all his disciples but John was and is the perfect image of Love through Jesus eye's so John never recieved his martyrdom but died naturally and peacefully because he truly was the Beloved disciple of the Lord. Theirs so much that could be foreshadowed just by this passage and its one of my favorites. Also at the end of each gospel Jesus meets all of his disciples and is carried up to the sky and all of the disciples become witnesses of this beautiful event that none says anything to go against it and not one of them denies their faith in Christ. Having seen this they are transfigured through the Holy Spirit and are officially called Saints after their deaths bringing in miracles and curing people of all races and cultural backgrounds.

      God is not bound by time. Hence Jesus could say in Jn 8:48, "...before Abraham was I am..." Or on Holy Thursday, "..this is my body.." (Lk 22:19; Mt:26:26-28; Mk 14:22-24) before the sacrifice on Good Friday.

    The grace of God is multi-portioned ("hebrew" actually means "multi-portioned in the language of the man who first used it in the Bible.) Moses, Elijah, Peter, James and John have received the "good part" or the יענה portion (john means "the beginning of the response of God.") They, then, all had the faith that allowed them to enter into the glory of the Lord. And this allows them to understand the voice of light. Light is a language of God. (This is the נצח of the נצח and the נצח to נצח. This is the quickening of the blood and the power to pass on.]
    We are called to seek his face. The journey includes forgiveness, righteousness, holiness and glory. No man can give these. You cannot earn faith or buy it. You just accept the truth. Faith comes from the Word. It can fill your heart (your desires,) your soul (the impetus of your actions/accepting God's will as your will,) and your mind (so filled with the Word that every thought is filtered through it.) When Christ is fully formed in you, you have the ability to become a "son of God"--a unity. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind and all your strength.
    Isn't it the Πρωτον (proton) psalm referenced regarded the crowning? The ελεκτον (elect) are "drawn" by "cords of love" toward the Mercy Seat and the Lord. Three courts like three shells and a fourth location above the plane. In another dimension called heaven, Jesus and his friends were at his coronation. I wonder why Abraham wasn't there? I really don't know. I don't know a lot. I'm not educated, but i know Jesus.

    Question. Elijah was taken up to heaven, and Moses died and went to Limbo. However, both are present on the mountain. So after the Transfiguration, did Moses have to go right back to Limbo to wait?

    • @bthongni55
      @bthongni55 3 года назад

      Since we believe that Jesus is God, so He was not bound by time. Though according to the creed Christ would go into the realm of the dead to redeem the souls there, He could permit the the trio (apostles) during the Transfiguration to have a glimpse of Elijah and Moses.

      Remember, Varkey, Sacred Scripture can have multiple levels of truth. For instance, a single Isaiah chapter talks about the coming servant of God and describes this servant as a whole people and an individual. So, is it a reference to the Israelites? Yes. Is it a prefiguring of Christ? Yes. With the Transfiguration, the Exodus connections are clear. But so is the Church's understanding these figures represent the Law and the prophets.

  • @kidathi

    Great explanation and somewhat makes sense as Jesus is the custodian of the new covenant just as Moses was the custodian of the old covenant at Mt Sinai, I would like to think of it as a handover of the law from Moses which the old covenant was based on and that Jesus came to free us from the curse of the law as per Gal 3.14 , but what was the purpose of of Eli'jah being there?
