Many thanks to Ronan Lovely O' for helping edit this one!
If you have any more SCAD questions (or need coffee shop recs), shoot me a comment down below. Take care of yourselves and I'll see you next time. 🐝🐝🐝
Yo I remember watching you befor I got to scad being her is fun and perfect tips
Great vid balbert! HOWEVER I do have some additions! Dw dw they’re good lmao
1. Bikes are great but don’t ride them at night unless you want to get shanked. Take the bus or carpool at night if you can!
2. Bless Nile I love him sm I wanna give him a cupcake
3. Managing your time is a BIG must I agree. I use my stickies app on my laptop to manage everything. Definitely have a break day, especially during the weekend. I have a mental health day every Friday and do absolutely nothing and walk around if the weather is nice!
4. YES CRITIQUES. Be decent and use common sense! Also take critiques with a grain of salt especially those that don’t..sound constructive? You gotta filter out the good with the bad! It takes time but hey it gets better!
Also you should absolutely do a video about recommended places to eat/hang or visit ! Savannah is rich with history and culture! Also hype up Foxy Loxy too lol.
YES YES YES! All of these. Especially the Foxy Loxy hype. Definitely my favorite coffee shop.
I start at SCAD in January and this video is very helpful. ESPECIALLY the text book thing holy hell thank you
Also PLEASE TELL ME ABOUT THE COFFEE. I want
Foxy Loxy on Bull Street is my favorite coffee shop. They have sister locations, but Foxy Loxy is my favorite of them all. Gallery Espresso has a good chai latte. Savannah Coffee Roasters has kinda mid coffee but a GREAT breakfast sandwich called “The Egglethorpe.” Mirabelle has great coffee AND great waffles. Blue Door has good vibes and good coffee/food but I’ve stopped going there for personal reasons.
By far the best cup of coffee I’ve had at SCAD is just a regular drip coffee at Cup to Cup in Abercorn. It’s sooooo good and the blend they use changed every day.
I'm an incoming freshman and I gotta say this video definitely helped my anxiety lol
I like your to do list in the background
Thanks
I appreciate all of the advice, but for me personally I’m glad you put in number 15. I’m a transfer student starting in the fall and I’m in a wheelchair. 🐝 🐝
I've been kind of anxious about starting at SCAD this year but this video really helped!
I recently discovered your channel while doing research for possibly applying! Your content has been so informative and entertaining, thank you! Keep up the great work!!
Thank you! Best of luck on your application and research process!
I love Mirabelle for coffee in Savannah, even though it’s a bit far from SCAD
I love them too! Their waffles are great
Thanks for all your videos!
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching them
I wish i saw this after my first quarter (Fall 2022) thank you dude!!
Of course! Hopefully it's helpful for you now!
Scad makes my brain hurt ngl it's hart here

Late to the game seeing this video, but I'm a SCAD alumnus and after getting my MFA taught at another art school. I can indeed confirm most professors at most colleges are required to have textbooks assigned even in studio classes . . . and then very few of us make the students use them at all. I mean, come on, I have both a BFA and MFA from SCAD, the last thing I want to do is make students spend more on supplies than absolutely necessary.
Awesome video! 🎉 Thanks 😁 Also, shout out to Gallery Espresso!! 😍☕️
Thank you! I LOVE Gallery Espresso
Right?! I brought home like 3 brownies from my last trip to Savannah. Also, I just applied to SCAD, so hopefully I’ll be eating more of those soon! 😅 Is all of your animating done on a computer / tablet, or do people draw stuff by hand? I’m more hands-on art so I’m thinking of doing fashion, but also maybe film/acting. I dunno. I wanna do too many things!! Does everyone feel like that when they first get there?
@@kittymorgan8853 Congrats on applying to SCAD! I do a bit of both! Most animating will be done digitally, but there is a floor on the animation building that has a TON of ACME peg bar lightboxes as well as a camera to shoot pencil tests. I only had to do paper animation for one class, but it was a ton of fun! It's how I got my start, and it was nice to come back to it.
As for doing all kinds of stuff, I'm the same way! You're gonna meet a lot of people at SCAD and you might end up on their projects. Because I'm also a dramatic writing minor, I get to meet a lot of screenwriters, playwrights, and filmmakers. I've been on a few film sets in varying positions. I've even had a chance to do acting, which is another thing I love to do. And plus, there are clubs for you to join in stuff you wouldn't be able to do in your classes. There's a ton to do for folks like you and me who can't just stick to one creative outlet lol
Thank you so much for your prompt reply about safety. How hard is it to do quarters in Atlanta and or abroad?
Of course! Doing a quarter in Atlanta after being in Savannah, from what I've heard, can be a bit of a mess. Getting the right classes in the right order is paramount at SCAD, so sometimes things can get mixed up. Same goes for going to Lacoste, but there seems to be a lot more organization for the Lacoste trip. I don't have a whole lot of experience in either, so I'm not the best person to ask. Hopefully, in the future, I can make a video about it when I know more!
Do I have to know how to Animate when I go to SCAD? I can draw, but don't know how to Animate.
Nope! They’ll teach you when you get there. Some students enter SCAD having never animated a single frame in their life. It helps to know a little beforehand, but prioritizing drawing and draftsmanship skills is more important.

Thank you! I was accepted today for fall, but I'm still waiting for my acceptance letter. Hopefully I get financial aid!
@@ztripes8723 Oh great! Congrats! I hope so too.
Is that a Bluey flush on your desk? Where did you get it?
Haha yes it is! I bought it off Amazon
I'm a sophomore in high school, I'm skipping a grade so I'll be graduating next year, and I plan on majoring in architecture. I'm a little skeptical about the college though. I've heard ups and downs about it and on top of that, I'm not sure if studying in that field will be easy. Especially math, I'm not that good at it. This is the only college I've looked at. Do you think the savannah location is better than the Atlanta one? I know you get different vibes from both locations but I'm just asking because I'm thinking about applying. Also is it a hard school to get into?
Congrats on graduating! That's so awesome.
The internet will say a LOT of stuff about SCAD, and some of it is true. SCAD, generally, is a pretty easy school to get into because they just look at grades, not your portfolio. If you did pretty well in high school, then you've got a decent chance at being accepted.
I will say, as someone whose roommate was an Architecture major, it is NOT easy. Lots of long hours in the studio and late nights finishing projects. If you're really passionate about it, then do it. It's a great program. But you gotta have that passion to keep you going through the late nights and long studio hours. It can get pretty grueling from what I've seen. As for the math classes, I never had to take them due to transfer credits, but even my less-math-inclined friends said they were SUPER easy. Plus there are tutors on campus you can talk to.
As for the difference between Savannah and Atlanta, I haven't had enough experience in the Atlanta campus to say definitively which one is better for Architecture. Sorry.
Hopefully that's helpful! Best of luck to you on your decision and congrats on graduating!
How often do you see military veterans attending SCAD? It has really good programs for veterans, but I feel like that may be because they're not used often and they provide tax benefits for the school.
Pretty often! I’ve had quite a few military veterans in my classes before. I can’t speak heavily on the logistics, but I know a couple personally!
I was supposed to go In January on the 8th but wasn’t able to get the correct finical aid
Aw, man. Sorry it didn't work out!
I am back to say that I have gotten in and am having fun :)@@BalbertAnimation
i’m into coffee 😮😮😮😮
Yesss great. Savannah has a ton of good coffee. My favorite is Cup to Cup on Abercorn. Second place is Gallery Espresso on Bull.
What is the weather like for the first quarter? Should I even bring a jacket or just a rain coat and summer clothes?
It tends to cool down toward the end of Fall quarter. It usually doesn’t rain as much as it does for Winter quarter, but I’d bring a jacket and a raincoat just in case cuz Savannah sometimes has surprise storms that last a couple minutes then backs off.
Hi, my daughter in SCAD in Savannah. She is freshman now and thinking about majoring Animation.
She is take 3 studios this quarter and having difficult time. I don't remember of her class name but it is a like introductory of Animation. She has so much of home works every week and already struggling. Especially Maya programming is her worst part. She never experience this kind of programming.
I want to find someone who can help her to learn the programming better in school.
I believe she spent lot of time in Monty.
If you can or someone else who can help her, then please let me know.
Hi Esther! Thanks for commenting. 3 Studio classes is no joke. It's a huge undertaking. If she's reached out to her professor for extra help and her professor still isn't helping, she could always go to her Animation Department faculty advisor for advice on where she can get the best help.
