I used the PE tracker for about 9 months and loved it. Used it mostly to sequence external gear. Really great device to flesh out complete tracks with sections, buildups, bridges, etc. I ended up selling mine, and happily switched to the m8 tracker (sooo good!) but would still recommend the Polyend without hesitation. Great device!
@@hostnik777 The m8 is sublimely genius it's actually a bit hard to explain because at first there is a steep learning curve, but once you get over it you just keep getting these "aha!" moments, and the muscle memory you develop (there are only 8 buttons) have you moving and editing so fast and smoothly. Overall the m8 is more powerful, it has something called tables with which you can program instruments incredibly deeply, it's kind of crazy if you search for generative music on the m8 you'll find insanely complex sounds and tracks. Of course the m8's built in synths are all great, especially the FM. It's also easy to control with external midi gear, my beatstep pro is mapped really nicely to a bunch of parameters that I like to fiddle with. The Polyend has a _much_ more powerful live mode, the screen can accommodate viewing a lot of tracks at the same time (this really helps when manually doing chords), the pad grid gives nice visual feedback regarding slices, the FM radio sampler is a really fun bonus, the fill random notes feature is a good creative boost. I'd say the Polyend is easier to learn too. I'd be happy with either of these trackers, they're both great, but the m8 has cast a spell on me. nice video very clear! all the numbers and the matrix lay out kinda scared me off, but its probably something getting used to (coming from Ableton). Was wondering how good do you think the tracker would be for composing/editing melodic pieces of music/samples ? Is it better for drum oriented things with all the numbers going on, or can you programme melodies and chords on it too?
As long as you’re using the right samples you can pretty much do anything with this thing. I myself love drums which is why My tracks sound the way they do 😏
I had a tracker when they were first released. There's been a ton of updates since but I cant remember if, lets say, you render 1 bar of a loop then drop that 1 bar on a track. Do the FX affect that audio down the track or do the FX only work on a note you drop and any other FX placed on that track are ignored. Hope that makes sense. Maybe thinking of it as a single midi note with a long release and automation changing its sound during its release.
@@LiamKillen Well, thanks for the answer if/when you give one. I'm interested in sampling long drones from my polybrute then using the step FX to manipulate it as it runs, see how weird it can get. But if there needs to be a note there for the FX to work, kinds kills that pipe dream. Modulating the filter per step would be one use case.
@@hasan7786 I'm pretty sure it works the way you imagine with *limitations* (see below). For example, I can trigger a one-shot sample [drone / chord etc.] on step 1, and then for example on step 10 or so, when you insert an FX (without an event/note on that step), it affects the sample from step 1. So for example I can open up the cutoff frequency of the lowpass filter, and close it a few steps later. Or when I insert a Reverse Playback FX on a later step, the sample plays forward up to the given step and then goes backward. In that way, you can kind of emulate a 'scratch' effect by changing the playback direction every second step or so. Or for example I can change the LFO speed (e.g. Volume LFO, Panning LFO, Cutoff LFO, ...). There are some limitations and glitches (bugs) though which might be a *dealbreaker* for you. For example, I can insert a Roll FX on step 10, which produces a roll effect with the audio material which is playing on step 10 so to say. Nevertheless, I didn't find a way to cancel the Roll FX afterwards without cutting / fading the sample within a second or so. Also, I found that for example changing the volume with the Volume FX will introduce some audio artifacts / clicks, maybe due to the waveform being 'cut' harshly by the FX. Also I found that the Tracker behaves strange when there are different FX on the same FX track. For example, I insert a Volume FX at step 1 (which changes the volume from 'default' to let's say 10; then I insert Reverse Playback at step 15 on the same FX track. Once the playback reaches step 15, the Volume FX from step 1 is cancelled, so that the volume jumps back to default, since the Reverse Playback FX overwrites the Volume FX. I should add that I don't know whether Polyend is capable of fixing some of those bugs / glitches by a firmware update (I'm on firmware 1.4, I think the latest is 1.6 at the moment). And, as I just tried only a few FX, I can imagine that some FX might _not_ work at all in the scenario you describe (just a guess).
@@bahutu802 Dam, thats for the thorough examination, a ton of stuff I really wanted to know. I’m not sure about the hexadecimal thing As for samples you have so much leeway- you can program a different sample on every single step of every single track if u want

Hey Liam, a word of advice: Please just keep the camera on the product you are reviewing. This constant changing from the product to your face is completely taking the viewer out of the focus of the product. We get it. It's your channel and you are the reviewer. Please just show the product so we don't lose perspective of what we are watching. Or put your face in a small picture on the lower screen while keeping the view on the product on the larger screen as a picture in picture. The best way to shoot your reviews is talking on camera for about the first 30 seconds, then for the rest of the video put an overhead camera as if from the ceiling looking down on a tight shot of the product and eliminate the multi-camera views from the side and this and that which looks like you just move your cameras around to create B Roll video shots. All of that is unnecessary. I could not finish seeing the video for those reason. I hope you understand my constructive criticism.

Hello! Awesome video! I started music making on Fast Tracker II and the AXS. This looks like something I’d like to own, but I have two questions;
1) does it use hexadecimal for input values?
2) are you stuck using one sample per track? I’m pretty sure the old DOS trackers let each step be a different sample sound.
Each step in a track can have a different sample if you want.
I’m not sure about the hexadecimal thing
As for samples you have so much leeway- you can program a different sample on every single step of every single track if u want
Thank you for watching!
I read a review that said it has a hexadecimal input value display mode.
Your videos production level keeps getting so much more sophisticated! Keep it up dude
Thanks Joe! I always appreciate you watching
Love mine but I feel it could be better for me with a midi keyboard and some other midi devices, some stuff I wish was more hands on but there are workarounds, pretty satisfied overall, just need to get busy with midi on it, it seems pretty capable
Yeah me too actually in regards to midi
Wow, I thought it was douchy sounding when you pronounced it distro-buter, but when you pronounced it luh-nee-er, I was like - OMG, this is a douch.
I pronounce your RUclips profile name Raw-veen-ee-us pay-thaw-jean
Money can so good music
it can so good is right lol
Hey Liam, a word of advice:
Please just keep the camera on the product you are reviewing.

Yeah one of the nicest I’ve seen
But I love my clunky S2400! 🤣

But all samples are mono only
Yeah like the op1 - honestly, doesn’t bother me 🤷♂️
And you can use it to play videogames.
