You are absolutely the best teacher! I love that you anticipate all of my questions by explaining things so thoroughly. I always go to your videos first for a wide variety of do-it-yourself fixes. I have learned so much from you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Ok, I'm a DYI guy. About a year ago, I installed "Add on" Enclosed blinds to a 15 light door. The extra weight caused the door to "catch" at the top, side. I've been meaning to "Shim" the hinges, to stop the sagging, ever since. I wanted to double check the shimming procedure, and ran across this video. At first I was skeptical, thinking that I would pull the screws right out of the door by prying on the hinges. But after watching this somewhat effortless procedure, I thought, what hey, if I strip the screws, I can always go back with longer ones. Long story, longer, This method worked GREAT. I pried carefully, and did not strip the screws. The door opens and closes perfect! Thank you, Joe!! Great advice!
Wow so cool for you to stop by with your detailed message. Nice job with your fix! I have lots of other videos that show different ways to fix sagging doors in case you ever encounter another one of your doors that is sagging. Just go to my main RUclips channel page then click on playlist & scroll down to doors & they will be in there. In fact since you are a DIY guy (awesome!) then I think you will appreciate all the DIY topics & videos I have for you in the playlists area for ways for you to save more money around the house. I think you will appreciate for sure! Try it! Thanks again for stopping by!
Fixed our front door that we'd been having issues with for a couple of weeks... trial and error, as you said, but it was done in less than an hour! Thank you so much, Joe!
If you want to learn more about sagging doors then just go to my main RUclips channel page then click on playlists then scroll down to doors. I have lots. Watch those & you will know what to do with your doors from now on. Try it.
Thank you for creating and sharing this video. It really helped my situation. By the way, I don't mind you talking and explaining why you do things because I learned so much from it. You're a great teacher with good sense of humor. I can sit in your class and not be bored. Keep up the good work.
Thank you so much for your vote of confidence for how I make DIY videos! I just turn on the camera & go for it! I hope most people really see that I do this to help people save money around the house not to hear myself talk! LOL
The best explanation I've seen on bending door hinges. Love that you move the camera so we can see where you bend them, other videos get blocked out. Thanks!!!
Thank you so much! I was able to fix 4 doors that were just a little off in 30 min. I particularly appreciate all the small tips throughout the video to keep the work area clean, like warning us about the grease on the pins and using a smooth crescent wrench so as not to scuff the hinges.
We fixed an exterior door that had been rubbing for years. Found your video by accident but glad we did. Door works perfectly now. Didn't take long. Thanks.
Thanks for trying this technique! In some cases, this way will not work, depending on your gap behind the hing, or not. Sometimes other things might have to be done to the existing door jamb in order to make the needed corrections, but I have used this method on numerous occasions & thought I should post it. Glad you found this video! Joe :0
Thanks for your message. I have lots of sagging door videos & I have fixed sagging doors using over 4 different methods so not all sagging doors are created equal I guess you could say. For more sagging door videos you can always go to my main RUclips channel page then click on playlists then scroll down to doors to find more. Thanks again for your kind message!
If you look up the word "genius" in the dictionary...your picture would be right there... Such a dead simple fix to a problem. Well done friend, well done! I was clueless how to fix three doors in my house, then this video... Thank you for taking the time to help others!
Ha! I so loved your description of genius in the dictionary! Also glad to hear you learned something really cool from this video. Guess what.....any time you have another sagging door I'm sure you will know what to do! Joe :0
This is a great video, we recently replaced our front door with a half lite, I did not replace the frame but over time it started to sag as the new door was much heavier than the older one. I used this technique on the top hinge and now it closes and locks properly. Thanks for posting this video.
Thanks for checking out this video! I have lots of videos on how to fix sagging doors to learn more...just go to my main RUclips channel page then click on playlists then scroll down to doors & they will be in there. I'm sure you appreciate all kinds of other videos I have in my playlists area as well. I know this will save you more money around the house...try it!
Worked perfect...though because it's winter and I didn't want to remove the door, I removed the trim next to the hinges and pulled just the top pin. I adjusted the top hinge barrels on the door like you demonstrated and then reinstalled the pin. The lock and deadbolt now engage with just a gentle push. Thank you! .
Wow cool but too bad you removed the door trim since then you would have to reinstall it caulk it paint it etc not to mention if it would've cracked when you went to remove it as I have even seen some guys just remove the pin & bend in place however I've never done it that way before so I always remove the door, heavy or not, then do as I show on video before reinstalling. Thanks for your message & glad to hear this video helped you out!
My door latch was too low and missing the receiving hole so I just took a free paint stirring stick from Home Depot and loosened bottom hinge from door jamb then broke off about a 1/2” of paint stirring stick then slid it behind the door jamb hinge then tightened it down and now latch and receiver lines up perfectly! Takes about 2 minutes and it’s the perfect thickness! Try it!
Love the tips you give. Most videos tell how to "adjust" the hinge because the door rubs on the side of the door frame. Well my problem with more than one door in my house is that the door sticks on the top of the frame. I don't see any videos yet that shows how to adjust a hinge for this type of offset. I know a door planer will work, but if I wouldn't have to go rent one just by adjusting a hinge, I`d rather do that. Thanks
+YoMoma777 How about using a belt sander? That would work good. There is not a door hinge that adjusts for your dilemma. Your house has settled & is now causing the top of your door to hit the door header. i would not suggest you remortising your hinges. Yes belt sander would do it. Make a straight line & use that as a guide when using the belt sander so you get a straight line from end to end. If you don't have one you could rent one of those cheaper than a door planer plus it will be easy for you to use. You will still need to be careful mind you, but easier I think than using the door planer. Thanks too for your kind words re: tips! Good luck with your project & let me know how you do! Joe :0
Dude! Thanks for your message. I have lots more sagging door videos for more learning if interested. Just go to my main RUclips channel page then click on playlists & scroll down to doors & they will be in there. Thanks again for stopping by!
I like to make viewers happy! I also have many ways to show you how to fix sagging doors as all sagging doors are not created equal. Got o my main RUclips channel page then click on playlists & scroll down to doors to find out. Thanks Happy...your new name!!
Thanks a bunch this was easy even for me, and I don't do hardly anything technical around the house (my wife left the house in horror seeing what I'm attempting to do, I can't wait to see her reaction at the smoothly closing patio door when she returns).
It will if you bend the knuckles all the same. I've fixed lots of doors this way but there are other ways to fix a sagging door. Do you want to learn more? Just go to my main RUclips channel page then click on playlists & scroll down to doors & they will all be in there. Thanks for stopping by.
Can you also look at your door & tell me is it about ready to rub the top side edge of the door jamb when opening & closing? That's what a sagging door will do & sounds to me your door is sagging for sure. I have a ton of door videos where I show you how to fix a sagging door & why your door latch might not be catching/latching or your deadbolt won't lock etc.. Just go to my main RUclips channel page then click on playlists then scroll down to doors or I might also have a playlist just for sagging doors? In any case you will find all kinds of videos there that will teach you & show you how to fix a sagging door so check that out ok? Thanks for stopping by...
So how do you adjust the top leading edge of the door. Where you said you need 1/8 to a 3/16”. Ive got one like that and short of planing it, I don’t know what to do. Help!
Sorry for not responding to you sooner. the best thing I can tell you is I have lots of sagging door videos on my channel that will explain all kinds of things to you for how to go about fixing a sagging door as not all doors are sagging in the same way per se. Just go to my main RUclips channel page then click on playlists then scroll down to doors to find them all there. Good luck!
Can you determine if any of the shifted portion of the door jamb might be able to be resecured in order to lessen your gap issues? Sounds like your wall has severely shifted. If you have a crawl space under your house, you may want to get in there & check out any floor issues in that same area. You could also shim out the top hinge but then the bottom of the door may rub but I would rather cut that off than the actual side face of the door. Look at it & make your decision & go for it! Joe :0
You could also use some cardboard or a very thin piece of wood on the lower hinges to lift the door. Unscrew the hinge from the frame (not from the door), put the cardboard underneath it and screw it on again (lower hinge and maybe the middle hinge, depends on the gap it needs to cover). Sometimes you'll need to adjust it a bit (trial and error), but it should do the trick too and it's a bit faster (not having to lift the door out of the hinges every time you need to adjust it a little bit more). Of course this depends on how big the gap is and how much the door rubs onto something. With big gaps your method might be a better way. But with my method you can't really screw things up (bending the knuckles to far or crooked, etc) when it comes to smaller gaps and less rubbing. But otherwise, neath trick! It's embedded in my brain in case I ever need it. Cheers!
+TheOpelkoenjas Ha! I just had to use my bend knuckle on hinge method this afternoon as a matter of fact & it worked fine! Your method could work to a certain extent depending on how much gap there is when the door is closed. Lots of times there's not a very big gap at bottom of door jamb where door closes so you can't do this to raise the door up high enough. Usually the top of the door has already sagged so that's why i go work up there first then see what I have to do after all my efforts have been exhausted at the top portion fo the door. yes I have other methods of fixing a sagging door & it just depends what the door has to offer me as every door (gaps etc) is different so knowing what to do & when to do it is vital. Thanks for your message!
Dude thanks so much for your message. I have more sagging door videos on my channel to teach you more if interested. Just go to my main RUclips channel page then click on playlists & scroll down to doors. Thanks again for stopping by!
i got a question my door is sagging i but a level on the top of the door and it is level the bubble is dead centre of the level and i but level on the side of the door and the level bubble is dead centre wouldn't the bubble be leaning in the direction of the sag?
Sounds kind of suspect agreed. Generally when I see a door that is sagging I try to realign with the existing door jamb as generally you won't be able to re-adjust that much without pulling it apart. I have a ton of door sagging videos/etc if you want to see more. go to my main RUclips channel page then click on playlists then scroll down to doors. thanks for stopping by!
I've got the same issue with my door. Scrapes against the threshold and it's so bad that I have to remove the threshold. Ive tried bending the knuckles, using 3 inch long screws into the top hinge, used a shim in the top hinge, but can't budge the door any. Really need to fix the problem. Cold air coming into the house
Go to my main RUclips channel page then click on playlists & scroll down to doors & I have lots of videos in there that might shed some new light on your issue....?
The hinges were tightly in, so putting a longer screw did not solve it for me. I found that this it was sagging/catching at the bottom vertical edge. The trick was actually to make the top hinge slightly looser (so that the door twists slightly clockwise) - this did the job.
Hi, Nice video and explanation. Thanks. Wouldn't it be necessary to pass a pin/ rod while you are bending the knuckles individually? I am afraid I will not be able to bend them by exact equal amount. I might have missed it if you had placed one. Thanks for sharing. And please don't be apologetic about the explanation, I am the person who needs all the things talked to me. So Thanks for that too. Regards, :-)
+Priyam D You're just going to bend the hinge knuckles on the door only. Do just a little then try to do each one the same amount. Pretty easy to do once you start doing it. Then get your eye down there as a site & see if they look all about the same. Put the door back up & see how it fits & if it looks like you need to tweak the door hinge a little bit more you will then have to remove the door & try again. I don't always get it perfect the first time so I take the door down & go at it again so I know I've done the best I could. You can do it! Thanks for your comments! Joe :0
Yes I use this technique but I usually try a few other things first & if nothing else works or doesn't work all the way then I try this....I have other videos for other ways to fix a sagging door too. Go to my main RUclips channel page then click on playlists & scroll down to doors & they will be in there. Thanks for stopping by.
Instead of using a screwdriver on the hinge pins, I use the cutters, just like you did with the nail. You get all the benefits of using them on the nail plus, with the screwdriver, it could slip off and gouge the door.
Yes check out this way to do it. I also have other videos that show you different ways to do it too but if the door is sagging right and there are the right clearances you should be able to do it this way. If your deadbolt still rubs you can use a reamer bit on a drill & gouge out the strike just a bit & presto! Thanks for your message! Joe :0
Look at your door where it swings in. Is the door sagging to where the top side edge of door is hitting the edge of the door jamb? If it is, that is also what might make the door want to swing open since the door is now not plumb (vertical level). Do you have a gap between the top hinge & the door jamb more so than the other 2 hinges? Watch this video again & ask yourself if your door is doing pretty much the same thing. If you need to, send me more info. Thanks for commenting. Joe :0
What should I do if the door is hitting the very top of the door frame and the very top of the side door frame. The door at the top is hitting both surface when I close it.
I don't have much of a gap to work with. When i adjust the hinge the top hits even more where the door won't shut at all and the side still touching also
Sounds like your door has really expanded with all the wetness in the air this winter. You could get a wood rasp at the store & rasp down the edge & top....or a belt sander. The idea is to attempt to make the repairs without having to damage any of the door. worst case scenario you'll have to sand/file down the edge &/or the top. I hate doing that though. Not sure how nice of a door you have or if it really doesn't matter....? If you think you can't do it, then the other way is to call in someone to do the repairs for you....but then you're talking some money.....depending on what they say etc... Thanks for your comments. Joe :0
Thanks for this great video. Our back door has been sagging for years. We tried putting the cardboard type things in the bottom hinge to straighten it out but now it's too far gone. The door has shifted again and it's hitting the floor and not lining up with the deadbolt lock so we can't lock our back door. Yikes. My husband wants to just hire someone to do it but after watching your video it doesn't look too difficult to me, so I'm going to attempt to do this to my door tomorrow. Wish me luck. I'll report back. ;) P.S. I'm sure the flip flops are OSHA approved. LOL.
Awe thanks so much for your kind message. I appreciate it! Of course I have lots more videos that you might appreciate as well as I show you all kinds of ways to save money around the house even YOU can do I'm sure, ahem. Just go to my main RUclips channel page then click on playlists & scroll down to see. I even have nature videos & inspirational videos too. Just over 3950 videos to choose from....I know! I am so glad to see your correct message! I have a ton more videos of sagging door repairs as well as all kinds of thing DIY that could & will save you money around the house. Just go to my main RUclips channel page then click on playlists then have at it. Tell me it isn't so!
That's a very good question. I wish I could see your door first hand. I do know that stained glass insert panels are heavy & this could've caused the door jamb to shift slightly &/or your home is going through some settling that may have caused the door jamb to slightly tilt so the door wants to swing open if not all the way closed. Are you needing to push the door into the frame since the door edge is hitting the door jamb edge? Joe :0
Hi, we just bought a 26x80 pre-hung interior door in Frame, the frame is level but it tilts left. I've tried putting shims at the bottom hinges to bring everything closer. It feels like it's very springy and doesn't close properly with the shims. The minute we removed the plastic align tool that's when the door dropped prior to installing everything. I'm just scratching my head on making this door perfect as everything is level but it tilts left looking from the bathroom at the door.
This video was just for fixing a sagging existing door & not actually installing a brand new prehung door as there are many things needed to be done right for things to look & work right for sure.....I have other sagging door videos that might give you a few ideas....? Go to my main RUclips channel page then click on playlists & scroll down to doors to find out. Thanks for stopping by...
We had a new stained glass insert installed in our front steel door about 9 months ago and now it doesn't close properly. We have to keep it bolted or it will swing open, and you have to push the door into the door frame to bolt it closed. Which adjustment method do you think would work best?
Sounds like your door is heavier now for sure & that happened to cause it to sag just a bit & now you have to close the door into the door jamb as it sounds like the door might be rubbing a bit on the door jamb. You could try the method I show but I would try something else first & I have lots of sagging door videos on my channel that will show you other ways to go about fixing a sagging door before this method. Go to my main RUclips channel page then click on playlists & scroll down to doors & they will all be in there. That is if you still want to see those videos but I would because these videos will help you fix other sagging doors around the house too....even now! Thanks for stopping by!
Yes you could just tweak the center hinge a little too as you have mentioned. Lots of times though I don't & it still comes out fine, depending on how much your door is sagging, & how old your door/hinges are since older hinges have just a little slop in them so the middle one usually doesn't bind because of the slop you already have in it. It's a great way to adjust your door. Just make sure to keep pressure on the hinge as you tweak it so the hinge screws don't loosen up. Joe :0
+Alex Abarca Your house could have settled a little & caused the door to not close properly. The weight of the door should really not be an issue but because the door is not brand new, the door jamb could've loosened up, the hinge pins could've worn a little causing the door to sag a bit, could be other issues as well like if you have a paneled door the door slabs could be moving around since the door is not brand new. Check it out a little & you should begin to see why your door is doing what it's doing. Let me know how it goes. Joe :0
Those storm doors can be tricky to adjust after they are installed, as you can't do them the same way in which I show for a regular type door. You'll have to remove the mounting screws & move the metal storm door jamb over so you can adjust accordingly. I hate those doors to adjust later. Hope you don't have the screws that can't unscrew. If you do, you'll need some small vise grips to remove them. Then use some different type of screws or even use threaded bolts & washers, for an easier install. Make sure to predrill your holes so you don't break/twist off your bolt heads. Joe :0
Mine seems to also have a thin metal rod that the door is aligned by. The metal rod goes from the top to bottom, but is not connected at the top of my door. I can manually lift the whole door and its fine, but then the door slides back down and then catches on the opposite side of where a person walks in to the house. Thanks for you help.
Is there a way you can "joeguyver it"? Look at it closely & see if there's something you can do to fix it yourself. Let me know what you come up with. Joe :0
to me its seems the metal rod should be more secure and the hinges hang on the rod but since the rod is moveable i think that might be the issue? Does this rod thing sound familiar?
You bent the knuckles of the top hinge only. Wouldn't the 3 hinges become misaligned causing the door not to rotate smoothly. I think I would bend the top-hinge knuckles a bit, but also the mid-hinge one too just slightly less. What do you think?
Yes you could do that too & I have done that before too. I have lots of videos for fixing sagging doors. Go to my main RUclips channel page then click on playlists & scroll down to doors as all sagging doors are not created equal. Thanks for stopping by!
Yes you could back shim hinges & I used to do that but I found it's easier to use little screws then I can screw them in or out for right amount then put the hinge back over. works pretty good!
Thanks so much for dropping by. More door tips for more learning...just go to my main RUclips channel page then click on playlists & scroll down to doors & have at it. You will learn lots!
Thanks for checking out this video. Of course I have more sagging door videos for more learning. Just go to my main RUclips channel page then click on playlists & scroll down to doors to find them all. Thanks!
I think that the top hinge stopper fkd it in the first place; those things cause a lot of spring-sproing! to a hinge; give them what they want and keep coming back and fix it again! good show!
There's lots of ways in fact to fix a sagging door & this was just one thought for how to do it. I have lots of videos for sagging door fixes. Just go to my main RUclips channel page & click on playlists & scroll down to doors to watch them. Try it!
mine gets caught at the top , it was a door that use to slam when the window was open. Now i cant even get it closed. All the screws are tight so I am stumped as to why it caught at the top of the frame
Sounds like things have shifted for sure. I have other sagging door videos that might give you additional ideas as to what to do to your door to get it fixed once & for all. Go to my main RUclips channel page then click on playlists & scroll down to doors.
Haha I hope so! Hey I have more sagging door videos for you to learn more if you like. Just go to my main RUclips channel page then click on playlists & scroll down to doors & they will be in there. Thanks again for your message!
i have a very large, very heavy, front door. tried replacing the screw and ordered 4" ball bearing heavy duty hinges on amazon. gonna try when they come it. the misalignment became so bad, it destroyed my deadbolt and door wouldnt close on its own
Sounds like your door might have sagged & needs to be adjusted too. I have lots of sagging door videos for more learning. Go to my main RUclips channel page then click on playlists & scroll down to doors & they will all be in there. Thanks for stopping by & how did your door reinstall with the new hinges go? Are you ok with how it looks now?
Almost always this is due to the screws in the hinges are lose. Don't bother with the hinge pins unless you absolutely need to take the door out of the frame. Just tighten the hinge screws.
I would agree lots of times you are correct but then again every sagging door seems to be different in the way you have to go about fixing a sagging door. right?
Yes once you fix a sagging door then the door latch should fit into the existing strike plate again. I would suggest trying to fix the sagging door the best you can then if you need to minor adjust the strike plate still then do it then & not before. Thanks for stopping by!
so what if someone's already adjusted the door so many times the door will no longer stay in place. they adjusted it to the point of no return. do I need to replace that part of the door frame?
Of no return? How bad is the door jamb? I have never had an issue where I could not repair a sagging door before. I have lots of sagging door videos to see. Go to my main RUclips channel page then click on playlists & scroll down to doors. Thanks
I guess you could do that but I have lots of ways to fix sagging doors if you want to learn more. Go to my main RUclips channel page then click on playlists & scroll down to doors & they will be in there. Thanks!
YOUR FIRED! Get rid of that stopper. that style stopper will continue to bend that door hinge as the door makes contact with it because that style stopper depends upon the metal hinge itself to stop the door at set range. That style stopper is the problem that will eventually bend that hinge in the opposite direction undesired to the direction you just bent it. thus, causing the door to be back at square one> the same issue. Remove that style stopper and install a fixed floor stopper and that problem is solved.
You're firing me already?!! Great tip on the door stopper issue. It was not my door but a friends & I wanted to leave it in the condition I found it in. I guess I should've mentioned this issue to him though. Thanks for the reminder! Joe :0
Your fix for the door is fantastic and I love it. I just mentioned the stopper because i have had many issues as stated with theses same stoppers bending the door hinge when they are stressed with minimal pressure in many.cases. I would use your technique as it is a great alternative than more time consuming options. My house has several piers due to foundation settling. I need more. So i have doors that wont shut and leveling the house with more piers will fix it. but in the time being I am going to use your remedy because once the house is leveled i can just bend the hinge back to its original state without adjusting the square of the door or frame. NO your not fired. that was my humor is all.
Whew........I read your entire message so I could get to the part where I'm not fired! Yes! Good luck with leveling out your house. Sounds like a project for not just any 'ole average joe! Joe :0

They really didn't do that mickey of a job. The house settled over time & caused the door to sag. It's a normal occurrence over time. I come across sagging doors all the time. Joe :0
I'll bet your friends are impressed with your newfound knowledge. You did tell them what your new trick is, didn't you? Or did you keep it for yourself?!! Joe :0
Well not really. I just figure the more I talk the more viewers will learn. I have a ton of other videos where I show how to fix sagging doors as not all sagging doors are created equal in the way I have repaired them but I have to warn you....I talk in all of those videos too! Just go to my main RUclips channel page then click on playlists then scroll down to doors & you will find them there.
Why go through all this nonsense? This is a good way to make to ruin the hinges. The proper way to fix this is by loosening the door and adding a predrilled shim.
Wah wah whaaaat? You are the first person to tell me that. It might have been your computer connection for some reason> I will wager if you try it again 5 years later it might work fine. Let me know. Thanks for stopping by & hope you learned something from watching this video anyway. Keep it going...
You are absolutely the best teacher! I love that you anticipate all of my questions by explaining things so thoroughly. I always go to your videos first for a wide variety of do-it-yourself fixes. I have learned so much from you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Wow. So cool of you to send me your message. I very much appreciate it! Make today great!! Joe :0
Fixed our front door that we'd been having issues with for a couple of weeks... trial and error, as you said, but it was done in less than an hour! Thank you so much, Joe!
James Nichols Awesome that you got'er done. Way to go! Thanks for letting me know! Joe :0
I’m also having the same problem with my room door it’s a big gap at the top but I don’t have a wrench

Thanks!!!
So glad you watched this video & learned something new! Thanks for your message.
Thank you so much! I was able to fix 4 doors that were just a little off in 30 min. I particularly appreciate all the small tips throughout the video to keep the work area clean, like warning us about the grease on the pins and using a smooth crescent wrench so as not to scuff the hinges.
So awesome to hear that you were able to adjust 4 of your doors in just 30 minutes! Way to go! Joe :0
We fixed an exterior door that had been rubbing for years. Found your video by accident but glad we did. Door works perfectly now. Didn't take long. Thanks.
Wow great job for doing it yourself! & for finding my channel too! Joe :0
Thanks for trying this technique! In some cases, this way will not work, depending on your gap behind the hing, or not. Sometimes other things might have to be done to the existing door jamb in order to make the needed corrections, but I have used this method on numerous occasions & thought I should post it. Glad you found this video! Joe :0
Thank you so much! Your video is very informative & helpful. Very professionally done!

So awesome to hear. Nice going racer X!
great video, Rick. You really have kept your audience in mind, and walked us through the process nicely.
Thanks for your message!
Thanks Joe. I appreciate you. Big help.
Try it!
Nice going!
Joe :0
Wow even a middle aged gal could do it with your great instructions, thank you for the time you took to make the video!
Ha! You're welcome. Glad to hear you feel you can do it too! You CAN! Joe :0

Thank you Joe, an excellent guide, cheers
Thanks so much for your message. I appreciate you!
Thanks a bunch this was easy even for me, and I don't do hardly anything technical around the house (my wife left the house in horror seeing what I'm attempting to do, I can't wait to see her reaction at the smoothly closing patio door when she returns).
Did she like your house of horror trick? I'll bet she did. You can take all the credit this time......! Jeo :0
Great tip, but while the door is off, shoudn't you make sure the pin goes straight through the two parts you just bent????
It will if you bend the knuckles all the same. I've fixed lots of doors this way but there are other ways to fix a sagging door. Do you want to learn more? Just go to my main RUclips channel page then click on playlists & scroll down to doors & they will all be in there. Thanks for stopping by.
I have a pretty big gap on the side where the lock is some at the top of the door too.
Thanks for your message!
you seem like a good guy, thank for taking the time to do video,
Dude thanks so much for your message.
Can this be done without taking the door off? Top hinge done 1st, removing the hinge pin etc.
Actually I guess you could......
Much gratitude!
I have lots of sagging door videos for you to learn more. Go to my main RUclips channel page then click on playlists & scroll down to doors. Thanks!
The hinges were tightly in, so putting a longer screw did not solve it for me. I found that this it was sagging/catching at the bottom vertical edge. The trick was actually to make the top hinge slightly looser (so that the door twists slightly clockwise) - this did the job.
+Ketan Varia Good job with figuring out how to fix your particular door situation! Thanks for your message..... Joe :0
Awesome tip Joe! Worked perfectly!!!
Thanks for your reply!
Joe :0
Very helpful video. Great idea to bend the hinge. Thanks!
Looml k long h uhh him uni h :)
Andy Dixon I like your thinking!
Thanks great video. maybe now I can align our front door which is sagging and catching the frame when you try to lock the dead bolt.
LOL.
LMAO yes the flip flops were just to make sure you were watching the whole video! Well how did you do with the repairs to your sagging door?
Thank you for making this video Awesome tip. Keep up the excellent work.
So glad to see your message here....thanks!
your explanations are amazing

Gazooo29 I have same problem did you find solution to it ?
What did you end up doing in order to make it better for you?
Joe :0
I have this problem and my door frame is leveled. I cant figure it out. You think this happens because the door is too heavy?
+Alex Abarca Your house could have settled a little & caused the door to not close properly. The weight of the door should really not be an issue but because the door is not brand new, the door jamb could've loosened up, the hinge pins could've worn a little causing the door to sag a bit, could be other issues as well like if you have a paneled door the door slabs could be moving around since the door is not brand new. Check it out a little & you should begin to see why your door is doing what it's doing. Let me know how it goes. Joe :0
Any suggestions to fix a sagging storm front door? I see it catching on the bottom plate.
Does this rod thing sound familiar?
btw, the door with the issue is a screen door, the storm door is fine. Just to clarify.
What happens if you bend one a little further than the other one?
Then you will have to bend it back to line up.
Thanks for stopping by!
good video, well explained, easy fix
+s wilson Glad you liked the video. Thanks for your message!
How about backshimming the hinges...?
Yes you could back shim hinges & I used to do that but I found it's easier to use little screws then I can screw them in or out for right amount then put the hinge back over. works pretty good!
Great tips!
Thanks so much for dropping by. More door tips for more learning...just go to my main RUclips channel page then click on playlists & scroll down to doors & have at it. You will learn lots!
Why take door down when you can just remove pin and bend? So much extra work.
Tweaking the top hinge doesn't always work I've found. I tweak them when all else fails. Thanks for your message!
Thanks Joe!
Thanks for checking out this video. Of course I have more sagging door videos for more learning. Just go to my main RUclips channel page then click on playlists & scroll down to doors to find them all. Thanks!
I think that the top hinge stopper fkd it in the first place; those things cause a lot of spring-sproing! to a hinge; give them what they want and keep coming back and fix it again! good show!

i have a very large, very heavy, front door. tried replacing the screw and ordered 4" ball bearing heavy duty hinges on amazon. gonna try when they come it. the misalignment became so bad, it destroyed my deadbolt and door wouldnt close on its own
Did the hinges end up making a difference?
Sounds like your door might have sagged & needs to be adjusted too. I have lots of sagging door videos for more learning. Go to my main RUclips channel page then click on playlists & scroll down to doors & they will all be in there. Thanks for stopping by & how did your door reinstall with the new hinges go? Are you ok with how it looks now?
I was wondering that too....
Yes it fix my door, thanks
Awesome to hear...thanks!
Almost always this is due to the screws in the hinges are lose. Don't bother with the hinge pins unless you absolutely need to take the door out of the frame. Just tighten the hinge screws.
I would agree lots of times you are correct but then again every sagging door seems to be different in the way you have to go about fixing a sagging door. right?
Well that correct misaligned door knob strike plate
It should
Yes once you fix a sagging door then the door latch should fit into the existing strike plate again. I would suggest trying to fix the sagging door the best you can then if you need to minor adjust the strike plate still then do it then & not before. Thanks for stopping by!
Awesome good repair.

Appreciate this video.
+Isolated Prodigy Thanks for letting me know you liked this video! Joe :0
so what if someone's already adjusted the door so many times the door will no longer stay in place. they adjusted it to the point of no return. do I need to replace that part of the door frame?
Of no return? How bad is the door jamb? I have never had an issue where I could not repair a sagging door before. I have lots of sagging door videos to see. Go to my main RUclips channel page then click on playlists & scroll down to doors. Thanks
*I just use cardbaord on the low hinge. It's even.*
Simple
I guess you could do that but I have lots of ways to fix sagging doors if you want to learn more. Go to my main RUclips channel page then click on playlists & scroll down to doors & they will be in there. Thanks!
excellent video and process
Thank you
Thanks for stopping by with your message!

Joe :0
Thanks Joe
My friends can enter without throwing their shoulder into the front door.

Who ever installed the door did a mickey mouse job, and probably did it did it to the whole house as well.

Have you fixed your sagging/rubbing door yet? :0
This guy like to hear himself talk
Well not really. I just figure the more I talk the more viewers will learn. Just go to my main RUclips channel page then click on playlists then scroll down to doors & you will find them there.
Why go through all this nonsense? This is a good way to make to ruin the hinges.
The proper way to fix this is by loosening the door and adding a predrilled shim.
There are many ways & different techniques for fixing a sagging door as all sagging doors are not created equal. Thanks for your suggestion though!
