    its kinda funny how i slept through a lesson of this a few days ago but now am so interested in it, its either funny or sad how bad our school system is in america.

      +Bryan Cornejo, My recommendation.
      Don't worry about how good or bad the school system is. Your job as a student is to extract information from any and all sources.
      This only applies when you don't have a choice as to where you go, and don't have the ability to improve. This is just how I got through school.

    Hey! I'm really loving all of your videos and the amount of effort you put into them. I recently programmed a program that simulated a naïve form of evolution, and it was really interesting to see how things formed and died based on a few simple rules / the environment. Your videos really helped me solidify what I needed to do. Thank you :)

    You forgot to mention a thing most people get confused about,
    While producing an egg/sperm, the chromosomes trade each others genes, making a brand new chromosome.

      This actually only happens with the X chromosome, the Y chromosome in males is the same Y chromosome their father had, which is the same Y chromosome his father had, and so on
      Any differences that arise are entirely the result of mutations

    • @TheYokiMoki
      @TheYokiMoki 4 года назад +2

      @@Deathnotefan97 I know this was a long time ago but.. whatever. Trading the genes to make a new chromosome actually happens with every chromosome except Y, and sometimes it even happens with XY pairs but it is very rare. There is one gene living on the Y chromosome that is responsible for making males males, and sometimes it gets passed over to an X chromosome while making sperm. This is the cause of XX males and XY females.

    I am pretty sure that the problem with inbreeding isn't dominant genes, it is broken dna... you can have a damaged genes, cause you have the whole dna twice the damage bits can be overwritten by the counterpart, but if you have inbreeding you have less replacement dna, because the second set of dna is too similar to the counterpart, so you have a higher risk of having the damaged part twice and no replacement.

    Please help me understand why recessive phenotypes can generally be detrimental!

    • @ThisPlaceChannel
      @ThisPlaceChannel  7 лет назад +4

      I think it's only because dominant detrimental genes exclude themselves. If they're dominant and detrimental they go away. While the recessive ones can hide and reproduce, survive and not be a problem until there's two of em in someone.
      I think that's it at least

    Your explanation about the offspring's genome is completely wrong. You don't simply inherit your grandparents' chromosomes! There is gene swap between the pairs. Look up meiosis in Wikipedia.

    I want to like this channel... but all the sprinklings of this Woke hypocritical bs is off putting. 🥺 "African and white people" - not Black people, because it's OK to call one of those groups by a dehumanizing color, but not both equally... no, one of those groups is deemed more deserving of a Cultural History.

    I'm fed up with the hypocrisy!
