- The start of the first L&K of the year 2000, indeed the first children's programme of the 21st century. Live from 9am to 11am in the BBC's 2000 Today mammoth broadcast - I wonder how many of the crew and guests hadn't been to bed?!
Look out for an awkward silence after the phone jingle, and CD:UK getting a bit of a pasting...

I bet you were a right laugh on New Year's Eve 1999...
That hand action Steve does when telling the web address. I remember a lot of CBBC presenter used to do that in those days, when the internet was still new and exciting, particularly for younger viewers

At least they've got a set & Audience here- if you see the Jan 1st 2000 edition of SM:TV (which is up on here), you can see it's just Ant, Dec & Cat in a bed with no audience! It was at least live though, as they do a Wonkey Donkey at the end (and ask people to call in for it during the show).

I had no idea L&K went on so long. Where did all the cartoons go?
I don't think they had any on this special new years edition, they had to link up with a few live midnight broadcasts from America as part of 2000 Today, so they probably didn't want to chance it by airing cartoons.
But according to Wiki they had Rugrats, The Simpsons, Kenan & Kel, Smart Guy, The Wild Thornberry's, Monster Rancher (loved that as kid, probably not good now) and Roswell Conspiracies as cartoons between 2000 and the end of the show in 2001.

childrens tv has gone soo downhill now... i feel sorry for today's children. This is from when they actually had a budget, now its like a presenter in a cupboard...
You can see why it didn't last much longer after this.
SM:TV must have been killing them in the ratings. This just looks so dated (even for 2000), turgid, and self-congratulatory. Literally the most boring kids TV I've ever seen.
Yea the show had totally lost the plot by then, On this clip when Mitch talks about Hit Miss and Maybe, and says that’s going to go all wrong then, that is how the show was like then,
How did people find that thing hilarious for so many years?
I think it's the fact that it's just too forgettable and not catchy enough! Just what was wrong with 0181 811 8181 eh? ;-)
