They banned the movie because one woman complained! Shame on the school for allowing this woman to control every student’s ability to view it.
That is exactly what all the "parents rights" bills are doing all over the country! Pay attention to local politics.
So what would happen if a parent complained that her child couldn't watch that movie? Would the school then reinstate that movie?

@@nadinepals4810 my opinion, keeps child home the day the movie is being shown. Another option, the child is placed in another classroom or library (with fun activities or book) for the duration of the movie with supervision. Yes, reinstate the movie, it should never have been pulled.
The school got each parent’s permission or denial of permission for their child to see the movie. Her kid didn’t see the film 🤦♀️

What I don’t like is that one parent objecting can override all the other parents who support or want something. That one parent needs to set limits for their own child only.
It's really unfortunate that children, their education, and whether they live or die from going to school, are being used as political pawns.

I've hunted many times and never needed a thirty shot clip, I am a sharpshooter who can hit a bullseye almost every time, and I don't need a automatic weapon, designed for war to hunt, that's total nonsense.
When we were kids we had to worry Abt how far we had to walk to school not if we were going to get shot when we got there.
@@princesstiarra8071 Yes, I remember. It was uphill, both coming and going, in deep snow and sub-zero temps... Even in September and May! Or at least that's what it seemed like. Also, 20 hour school days, starting at 8am, and ending at 3pm. Except for the backpacks which only a healthy mule should carry, the kids have it so easy these days (not).
It's a nightmare, and trying to explain it to our children and make them feel safe is also way beyond what should be going on. Somehow this has got to stop.

You don't resolve a line parental complaint about a movie by scrapping the movie. You resolve it by removing the student from the room and assign some alternate activity. Like reading a banned book, for example.

Library policies on challenged books always start with the question "Did you read the entire book?" This parent should be sat down with the teacher and principal to watch the entire thing.

I worked for her on a concert about 30 years ago. She's an incredible person. Super nice.

When I was in a Catholic elementary school we sang rainbow connection at one of our concerts.
We also created a speakeasy singing Frank Sinatra songs, selling fake cigarettes and mocktails as a fundraiser. Our priest was the bartender. Good times.

My mom was super strict, and her religion banned tons of stuff. When my class did anything not approved by the church, I simply went to the nurse's office. I ended up helping out so much, I considered a career as a nurse. (I didn't, but my brother did.) Never ONCE did my mother EVER think that her beliefs warranted stripping other children of the right to do something.
@@rhov-anion I respect that, as long as a parent exercises censorship only over their own kids I don't mind, might suck for their kids but it's more understandable than restricting a whole group of kids. My mom was an 80's goth animal rights activist, vegetarian and atheist so I was lucky enough to not really have movies or shows restricted besides obviously explicit stuff. And books were given even more freedom since my mom figured as long as I was reading I was fine, and I turned out alright, and was pretty mature for my age since I was able to consume content other than strictly kids shows.

It is my very valid opinion that if people don't teach kids about the LGBTQ and race and we let them have their own opinions it would make the world much better... Schools r supposed to be a safe place for all kids. My gay kid couldn’t safely go potty at age 10. If parents wouldn’t teach hate, he wouldn’t have tried suicide at age 16.He is happily married to a man and my sons job is in helping all ppl.

When Congress asked for testimony, Pence was part of the executive branch, when the DOJ asks for his testimony, he's part of the legislative branch. Some lawyer need to present to a judge the argument that Pence is lying to at least one of these courts by offering contradictory statements.

When the VP is serving in her role as the president of the senate, she's in the legislative branch; the rest of the time she is part of the executive branch.

My kids go the school where the one parent complained about the Ruby Bridges movie. The school sent a permission slip home like they do for other movies. This parent opted their kid out of the movie. Not sure why they went and complained on behalf of all other parents and students after they were given a choice and made it. Perhaps because they wanted attention? If that was the goal, mission accomplished. One individual parent that doesn’t represent the school made the national news and the late show.

@@Shortkingharry I think they do this because the movie is rated PG. I’m not 100% on that - just a guess. My kids are able to watch G rated movies without permission. But I take your point - as parents we need to rely on educators’ expertise. There are great teachers at this school. It just really sucks that politics have taken over the school board and that individual parents with an axe to grind can run a community through the mud like this.

Yeah, when I worked in a small Library I had the children create a giant rainbow on the wall. The woman that owned a shop across the way and was on the Friends board said I should take it down immediately because it was a gay symbol. I said rainbows have been around long before any group made it their flag and left it up for 3 months🤣
Which is truly ironic since one of the earliest records we have of rainbows is when God left it for Noah as a promise that He would no longer destroy the world with floods. One of the most powerful symbols in Christian theology and they're decrying it with all their might.

Actually, rainbows are simply a diffraction of light when seen from a relative vantage point. So in a very real sense they didn't exist until there was a pair of eyes to see them.

The worst part of that one person getting the film banned for next year is that parents were told the movie would be shown and they could choose that their child not see it. Her kid didn’t see the movie, but mom saw part of it and now has tried to make sure that no one else’s kids can see it either - ever 🤦♀️
