I just started studying for my Appraiser and Adjuster licenses for CT. I have been in the body shop admin side of the business for over 8 years and now decided to go the next step. I hope to gain experience in auto claims while working towards CAT IA. My fiancé is an auto body tech and painter and he also wants to change his career path to IA, we would like to work as a team doing CAT IA.

Great Video, I am currently in process of getting my DHS license and eventually the top 5. I have over 20 years experience in the automotive/transportation industry and wanted to know would you still get the same top 5 state licenses. I will be doing home and auto but mainly focused on auto to start because that's where I'm most comfortable.

I've been doing desk reviews for 8 years now and thinking of switching to field work. I've closed over 26,000 claims. Looking to make more of the profit for all of the work put in. I have 4 state licenses and I-car platinum certified. I am worried about starting up and getting my name out there with client's not having many contacts..

I just passed my test for my license. Here in New York what would you suggest would be the better route to dice into my new career start with the company as a staff adjuster or branch out yourself as IA and do daily claims
That's a tough call because if you go staff first you'll kinda have to stick around for a couple of years at least. If you're young enough, it's not a bad thing to consider getting on with a good big company and then taking advantage of all of their free degrees (MBAs, CPCUs, my dad even got a PHd paid for by the company he worked for). Most of the guys I know who got on with State Farm or Liberty Mutual when they were in their early 20's are looking at retiring in their mid to late 50's with a nice cushion.
But in the NE.. NY and NJ in particular, you can do REALLY well on daily. Everybody I know who runs claims up there are pretty busy year round.

Staff is not a bad way to go. You can make pretty good money if you hang in there for the long haul.

What if you’re on 4-5 rosters and they want you to work claims simultaneously, can this present a problem with being unreliable to one company to the other ?
If you're running daily claims, in most places you must run claims for more than one company if you want to earn a good living.
However, for cat work, NEVER work for more than one at a time. Ever. Nothing but big, bad trouble if an adjuster tries to run claims for more than one firm on cat at the same time.
If you're asking "what happens if I say yes to one and no to 4 others?" You just say, "sorry, I can't on this one, but thank you for thinking about me. I'll let you know when I'm available again." And leave it at that. You don't have to say, "oh, well, I just said yes to Pilot, sorry." Why? They only want to know IF you can go or not, not WHY.
If you never work for a company because they are always the last to call, eventually they'll just stop calling.
Finally, it's not that common to have 5 firms call you at the same time. For me it's usually just one who has claims in Omaha for carrier, for example.

Hello, I’m very interested in becoming an independent auto adjuster. I know many body shop owners all around the town I live through family and friends, is there any way I can benefit off that? Or is it strictly through applying to firms and then them sending me to a claim? I don’t remember exactly how it was but a family friend (owner of a repair shop) actually hired an independent auto adjuster and paid him a flat fee of like $100. I’m not sure the circumstances or the situation but is that also a way to make money and is it good for the repair shop as well? Thank you so much!

Is an auto appraiser legal required to physically go out and view the vehicle before they total a car out or can they do it based off photos from an online Auction house " staging area"?

I am a collision repair technician who can write estimates and being a service advisor at my prior job how would I get into auto apraising here in Missouri. Not sure if I want to be independent but what about for a big insurance company. What training should I seek out?

I live in Florida. I was told to work for pilot catastrophe start as an auto adjuster and later property appraisal. I do not know which site to get started. There are so many. Please direct to the right site

You can start as either auto or property, it’s up to you. And sign up with several IA firms, Pilot Catastrophe is only one of many. There is Eberls, Alacrity Solutions, GRS, CNC, Claim Consulant Group, Crawford & Company etc.
Chris Stanley try to slow the hand movements when speaking to the camera. I noticed on several of your videos you are very animated with your hand movements. It becomes very distracting when trying to focus on your points with so much movement. Just a tip

I used to be an adjuster and it sucks. I was making $100k/year but it was not worth it.
What kind of adjuster, im thinking about getting into auto insurance but i only need partime to get to know how the industry works.
Alex G auto claims. You work with difficult shops. Both the customers (shop and car owner) hate you. Imagine negotiating with shops and coming to an agreement, only to have your supervisors and/or QA come from behind you and tell you to make changes to your estimate and chop the estimate down. It’s pretty hard to work with shops when your company doesn’t want to pay. You work thru lunch breaks, you are micromanaged and the customer service survey is against you.
Turnover is high. Many people get stuck in the industry and become “lifers” because this is all they know.
Stay in school and find something better.
My wife is a doctor and I went to one of her big Christmas parties .. a group of doctors met me and asked what I did. I told them I was an adjuster and then all I heard was crickets... a few moments later they went about their conversations.. felt like I was a low life piece of sh*t.
I, along with many others left the industry and would never go back, even if they paid double. .. and I was making $100k/year
@@gmoneygnice1546 wow thanks for the response , the reason i want to try it out is because i have been doing body work for a long time and im planning on buying my second property in a commercial zone with enough space to setup a small body shop. I know nothing at all about the business side of the industry and i though this would be a good way to get a foot in learn and get out a yr or 2 later. What do you think would be a good way to get to know the ins and outs?

Who pays for your deployment during auto claims? How much can you make doing auto claims a year & per claim? What is recommended auto claims per day?
Generally, IA's are responsible for paying their own way on a deployment.
What you can make is based on how many claims you can close, at least on the property side.

Can I take my heavy mechanics skill to adjuster. I heard people getting certified and not getting a job
People come to claims from many different backgrounds - most of them having nothing to do with property or auto. As for getting jobs, this is a merit-based industry so the adjusters who do the best work will be the busiest.
So move forward post coronavirus , I've been and independent since 2012 and made decent money, now 2020, I have 13 appraisal firms not one of them are loyal, its turned into a cut throat business and I specialize in HE. Having to give up miles now and only making $54- $60 on auto claims and everything is going to photos, the appraisal firms and insurance companies only need us for hail,theft recovery and supplements when an agreement is not obtained with a shop. I would not recommend changing careers to do this at this time. Let's not forget most states you need to be licensed and bonded.
Desk reviews are the way it's going. I've been doing it since 2013 and getting burned out. It's an up and down business for us to. Shops either love or hate desk reviews. I come from the shop so I know both sides. Still thinking of making a switch just because i want to work for myself.

What are some daily claims companies to look into?
Hey, Kameron.. Most if not all of the big IA firms also have a lot of daily stuff they do. Along with Pilot Catastrophe, etc. you might check out Midamcat.com vanguardclaims.com primeco.com
Do you need to be honest and have moral standards to do this? If the company wants that you only offer at best 80% of damages when you know that you should offer 100% damages, would you agree? Is there a training to overcome remorse or guilty conscience for lying, cheating, deceiving and in short words stealing from honest people that you know should get paid more?
Interesting comment. I think it demonstrates that you don't really understand the job. And that maybe you've got a preconceived idea - and not a fully informed one at that - about what insurance is and what it's for.
@@AdjusterTV I have personal experience with auto claims adjuster and yes he told me, that it is not about being fair, it is all about making your employer, the insurance company, pay the less amount of money possible. That is what they trained you for.
@@Quixotepr I'm sorry to hear that. Either he misunderstood the training or he's giving you his personal opinion on it - I can tell you unequivocally that no training I've attended or heard of includes anything like that. And I've personally trained at a third party institute, several IA firms, as well as at a top five national carrier over the last 20 years.
What your friend must know is that the insurance industry is tightly regulated by state and federal agencies. Carriers are bound by what's known as Fair Claims.
What he may have misunderstood is that the whole reason for an adjuster is to act as cost control on claims. In other words, it's important that the reasonable and customary amount for a claim is paid, not what contractors or auto body shops want to try to charge. If adjusters didn't exist and insurance companies just paid whatever the contractor or auto body asked for, then you can imagine that things would be a lot more expensive than they are. And your insurance rates would be a lot higher.
So no. I'm afraid your auto adjuster friend has the wrong idea about claims. And to be honest with you, the way you framed your question indicates that you're either a PA or you have some vested interest in cultivating this misconception about insurance.
@@AdjusterTV For the record. The claims adjuster is not a friend of mine. He is the same individual who was trying to rip me off by offering only 80% of damages when the police report stated that their insured was 100% at fault. After several arguments I told him that his offer was very unfair, immoral and basically just a way to get a big production bonus for stealing from honest people that only wanted his car to be fix. He said that his job was not to be fair, but to make his employer to pay the less amount using any means starting with the three D´s and then wear me out until I quit. Maybe I am confusing the auto appraiser with the claims adjuster, in which case I apologize for the mistake if you felt offended, however by the actions of this claim adjuster and for what I researched on the internet what he said and my opinion are not far from the truth, especially if the insurance company is Progressive.
Well, that sucks that that happened. If you search for that on the internet, you're going to find a lot of noise out there and a lot of misinformation from folks who stand to make money by making you believe that they're on "your side" against the evil insurance companies trying to rip you off. No insurance company is going to sink to that level and put out an opposing view, they'll just let it sort itself out in court.
The truth is what it is and I can tell you that while people on all sides will make mistakes and that there are certainly bad apples everywhere, my experience as a claims professional doesn't support the claims of fraud on the carrier side like this.
We are told to pay what we owe as fast as we can.
And keep in mind that the reason your auto and homeowner's insurance rates are as high as they is not because of greedy insurance companies.. it's because of fraud on the other side.
I'd counsel you to do balanced research on this.
