Hey, I just wanted to tell you that I love your video, I started figure skating at 17 but I took a break because I couldn't continue but this year I'm going to take lessons again and you motivate me so much ! Love from France
Hi, I'm considering starting figure skating myself at 14 years old! You definitely are my inspo to start cause I've been holding it off since I'm older than most. I have one question though before I start, was wondering if I should get some good skates before my first lesson or if I should start w/ just rentals and eventually get better ones?
hey!! it’s definitely up to you when you want to buy skates! for me personally, i bought my own skates after my first 2 lessons just to make sure I was going to commit to the sport. the sooner you can get your own skates the better, as long as you know it’s something you 100% want to do! 💗
I would recommend getting used profesional skates (maybe edea) they really help you move to jumps as soon as possible and make sure you are comfortable while skating. You can get good used edea chorus or edea overture with the blade for about 50-100$
hi! i’m not sure if you’ll see this, but i am also a figure skater and i also teach lessons!! i was just watching your vlog and thought that i could try to give you a tip that really helped me when i couldn’t hold a spin either. but when you spin, open your arms out shoulder height and pull in from there. if your arms are more towards the ground, it’ll pull your balance in front of you. you’re doing great and i love watching your videos!! hope this helps :) 4:30
sort of rounding your arms before you cross them!! i tell my students to image you’re holding a beach ball and then you want to delete it by squeezing your arms
I'm going to start having figure skating lessons when school starts back up and watching your videos makes me so much more excited, also, you're kind of like a role model for this so thank you :]

Hi, enjoyed your video. I can relate except haven’t don’t any jumps…waltz toe loops…still in adult basic 3-4. My question is do you do off ice training? I know how important it is as well as on ice training. If so, do you have any routine or warm up exercises you could post. The tutorials are great and your process is too. 😊
i really want to start skating but i still have to wait till next year and i'm getting impatient. my little sis was just born last december, and because of that i have to wait. i wish i started earlier rather than putting it off so much lol. oh well, karma.
I have to get up at 5:20am for my private lessons! But my coaches insist that I have a good chance to go pro… so lots of practice to catch up! I’m 9 and I just started 8 weeks ago. But I did gymnastics before figure skating. Hopefully it will help.
Hi! I also want to start ice skating, but I'm not sure what skates to start with. Before I start though, the type of ice skates are on my mind. What skates do you recommend, and which ones are you wearing in this video? tysm!
I definitely recommend looking into Jackson ultima, riedell, or risport for skates :) my first skates were Jackson artistes! In this video, im wearing edea chorus boots and John Wilson coronation ace blades
I mentioned in another video that It think you look really good wearing glasses But in this video for several minutes you have your glasses as you're applying eye makeup. And without glasses you really are quite attractive. I'm sure you have been told that before by others as well. You really should consider getting contacts just for when your in skating competitions. Other wise continue wearing your glasses.
I can’t get my prescription made into contacts, so contacts aren’t an option for me sadly. I have a few other videos explaining this more in depth if you’re curious! :)
@@sofiafigureskates First of all, thank you for your reply. And yes I would be very interested in hearing the reason why your prescription can't be made in contacts for you. I can only think of one reason off the top of my head. That would be if you have prisms in your glasses. I can tell by looking at your glasses that you have a slightly strong prescription, but not excessively strong to the point where you wouldn't be able to get contacts in your prescription.
yes, I do have prism in my glasses :) I have strabismus and nearsightedness. my eye doctor told me I could get contacts to help with either the double vision (caused by strabismus) or the nearsightedness, but not both. my strabismus gets worse every year or two, and my prescription is constantly changing and we keep having to add more prism. im currently at 7 prism total (3 on right eye 4 on left) and about to bump it up to 8 because it’s getting worse 😵💫
@@sofiafigureskates I had a feeling that was the reason you aren't able to wear contacts. Sadly, that there just isn't anyway of making contacts to do what your glasses are able to do for you. I'm sorry to hear that is continuing to worsen. I wasn't aware that they even have contacts that can help with double vision. But because your also rather nearsighted as well even if contacts were able to fully correct your double vision you still wouldn't be able to see well enough to go without glasses to skate or do much of anything really. When ere you first prescribed glasses with prisms in them? I have a feeling it wasn't all that long ago was it? It's really very normal for a doctor to start at the lowest or lower possible point and then increase the prisms as necessary until they find the perfect stopping point. Sort of a trial until they find that point. Then I think it won't change much if at all again. Actually anything less than 5 per eye isn't really all that bad when it comes to prisms. Are your prisms base out or base in? When you take your glasses off are you able to see if your eyes go inward or outward? Also the closer you get to being in your twenties your nearsightedness should also become stable for you as well. Generally speaking nearly everyone's eyesight will become stable sometimes as early as 18 and usually not later than 25 years old. Are you still needing increase in your glasses to correct your nearsightedness and if so have you noticed the changes being smaller increases in your recent eye exams? So I guess your just going to have to show the world that a girl wearing glasses can be a world champion and gold medal winner. Like I said to you on another video you posted. Back in 1976 a young attractive girl named Dorothy Hamil won the gold medal that year and she was a fulltime glasses wearer. But she was able to see well enough without her glasses to skate. So she went without glasses on the ice but off ice she was never seen without her glasses in front of her eyes. Sadly your not able to skate without your glasses. But I watched several videos of you skating and you are very graceful and you look like an angle on ice. Since so many people now wear glasses which should include at least a few of the judges judging you, they should be able to judge you and not consider your wearing glasses at all. Something I just had a thought about. You might want to ask your doctor if he or she thinks you might still be a candidate for lasik or one of the other types of vision surgery could be an option for you? Now it wouldn't be a fix for your strabismus, but it could fix your nearsightedness and then maybe contacts would then help enough that you wouldn't need to wear glasses all the time and at least be able to skate without glasses. But just so you know, you first need to get to where your eyes are completely stable for at least a year or even 18 months before that might an option. It doesn't hurt to ask your doctor about it now because if it is an option it might be something to start saving money for since insurances don't usually cover much of the cost of it. That's because they consider it as being cosmetic surgery which it really isn't of course. .

As a figure skater who started skating 4 years ago, I say this to try and help you not criticize you. Your technique is raw I understand, but you are 17 and instead of just learning the element, once you know how to master the technical side of it, try and make your skating look a bit more beautiful and artistic, since right now it looks like you are a small child skating. I am being honest and if the truth is too much for you, you need to toughen up because if you were skating elsewhere like Russia, you wouldnt last a day here. Best wishes.
