hearing that you felt like you were too old to skate even before 15 just shows how we should really ignore that doubtful voice in our head. Im 27 and suddenly grew an interest in figure skating, and I know most professionals retire at my age... I skated on ice one time when I was 18 and I keep thinking if only I started then, I'd be so much younger!! and yet people much younger still have these doubts. Im sure the same way people older than me wish they could be 27 again and start. I'll do my best as if I'm ageless, I'll get where I get!
I am 11 and my parents won’t pay for my lesson or skates, I am kinda of self taught and right now I know how to do Waltz jump , scratch spin and salchow, and the basics, you inspire me and when I am older I can hopefully pay for myself❤
@@Notsophieofficial1000I think my parent would but we’re kinda low on money but I might try self teaching myself too! How did u self taught yourself? :)
I started at 10 and now I can do waltz jumps and salchows and this coming Friday I have my first private lesson!!! And also at my rink the lady in charge of LTS started at age 33 and she was super good!!!!❤❤❤ that just shows you CAN do anything so start figure skating!!!❤❤❤ thank you for reading this!!! Love y’all ❤❤❤
I'm 27 and I'm about to start my figure skating journey next week! I currently do aerial hoop & pole and was looking for another sport that's more focused on leg strength. I'm super excited and I've been binging figure skate content, your videos are so motivating! Can't wait to start!
I started figure skating over 2 years ago, however due to having such a busy schedule with other sports and traveling for a long periods of time where I couldn’t go to an ice rink I am a bit behind. Right now I am learning T stops, backwards cross overs, and backwards storking, I’m still trying to persevere and get better! You are such an inspiration.
I’m currently 11, turning 12 this year. Im inspired to figure skate by you, Sofia. I’ve gone to the rink a couple of times i started with a skating aid then slowly worked my way to skating without it. Im considering starting lessons at my local rink and I’m very excited. Before, I never seemed to find the perfect sport for me, but because of you I did, thank you so much Sofia. ❤❤ - Summer
i'm almost 18, skated for fun since around age 6 and recently decided to give figure skating a try. don't let the numbers fool you - i know nothing except how to skate forward/backward. it's really complex for me as i'm panically afraid of falling - any head injury could be fatal for me. and i'm epileptic. anyways, good luck to me and everyone else just starting!
Have you ever heard of a manga called Medalist? It's about figure skating, and one of the main characters also deals with the issue of starting the sport later in life. It's an incredible work, and it was the main reason that sparked my interest in the sport. I highly recommend checking it out.
I was scared to start figure skating because ive seen videos that say you need to start very young. Thankfully I came across your account and noticed that figure skating doesn't have an age. My first class is going to be this Saturday and I'm so excited I can't wait
I started figure skating at 11, and i’m turned 12 just a few weeks ago in December. I’ve been doing figure skating for about 7-8 months and i’m only able to spin (but i usually always slip) and skate backwards (slightly). I’m still training a lot but since i’ve moved up a grade theres a lot more homework so I haven’t gotten as much training as i usually do. But i’ve caught up with school and now i train about 2-3 times a week, if its break, sometimes every day or just every day free skating for fun
I started when I was 9-10 years old and I’m 14 now, my progress has been going really fast and I’m able to do a really low sit spin, but I worked really hard for it and I was always too scared to do it, so one day I pushed through all that fear and here I am today! I’m not planning on competing or preforming i like figure skating because it’s fun!
This motivates me so much! My biggest mistake in life was thinking that i‘m too old for new hobbys especially for those where i need so get flexible but i have my trial lesson on saturday. 😍 i want to start with ice skating in October this year bc this season is over in two months here and in germany there is no rink that is open the whole year😔 btw i‘m 26 and if your older or younger and want to start : please try it!!! Don‘t do the same mistake as i did.
I've been watching your videos forever and you helped me get over a mental black an I started skating at 11! thank you so much you your videos you are a great skater and a great inspiration!!!!❤❤❤
I started figure skating when I was a young teenager, like for two years, I was around 11-14 years old max, then stopped for a multitude of reasons. I had health issues, was bedridden for months, then had a wheelchair... I had to re-learn how to walk, and then I went back on skates. So I'd say I'm an adult beginner because I had to start again and even though I had memory of a few things, I lost almost everything body-wise. I started ice dance though and not figure skating because I wasn't allowed to jump by my doctors (but the basics of skating are the same in both disciplines). So I put on my skates back for the first time in 2021 (at 26 years old), started with group lessons in 2022 and a mix of private and group lessons since January 2024. I'm French so the system is a little bit different here, and not all clubs have the same "program" or stuff. I've had a good time picking up the basics but I reaally struggles with anything involving going backwards. I've been stuck on backward skating, crossover, on turns, for a whole years. And the last couple of months I had a sort of a break through, and now I'm doing it ! I've done my first one foot turns, backward crossovers, and I even almost made a spin two weeks ago (another big block for me). Most of what I struggle with is mental. My brain is just frying up as I try to escape the "I'm going to DIE !" phase of any novelty in my life (which usually makes my muscle go all tense like I'm fighting for my life), and I struggle like I'm the worst skater that ever lived, and then somehow I manage to go through and my brain realize it was not that bad... and I can do it. It still needs work, but I can do it. So I guess that's the journey so far. I'm going back to university (at least I hope) to study sport science. Going on the choreographer / coach path, because I also discovered ballet dance and I'm in love with moving bodies that do beautiful stuff (sadly my uni doesn't have a ice dance specialty (and I can't move) so I take the ballet one, but I intend to pursue both in the choreo world).
I am a figure skater, and I started at 15 ( last fall) This fall I moved up to figure skating from learn to skate. I am SO LOVING IT!!!!!! Though I do find it very hard, as I am from a small town and there are only young girls at my level. A lot of them are half my age and better than me. I sometimes feel that I have to prove myself since I am older, and it puts a lot of pressure on me, which hurts my confidence. I am currently learning 1-foot spins, backspins, waltz jumps, salchows, footwork, and stuff like spirals, spread eagles, and shoot the ducks. I am going to start learning a solo soon...I am literally SO excited!!!!! Even though my age makes it hard, figure skating is so amazing no matter your age! You are the BIGGEST inspiration to me!!! You literally make me believe in myself and my abilities. Keep up the amazing content, and happy skating to all my fellow skaters! Thank you!💖⛸
Hi! I'm also currently 15 and trying to learn some tricks on my ice skates that I bought with my own money^^ But I have a question, and that is how much did you pay for the starter course?
Hey Sofia! Love the channel, but just a quick question. My rink doesn’t do freestyle sessions, only public sessions, but I’m between each public sessions, you can pay a bit more to stay on the ice in that time. So should I just go to those instead? Because there aren’t any other rinks in my area 😅
Hi I started when I was 13 and it’s been about a year I wasn’t able to skate during the summer but I started again I can still only go like once a week tho I’m in pre free now Is there any tips you have for at home training Love u so much ❤
Love your videos! I just started in June at 13! 😊❤ Also, would you reccomend gently used edeas? I really want them, but i dont want to pay the $750 that they cost.
Sofia, do you take any additional classes besides skating to work on your flexibility, body strength, ballance and artistry? Dance, Gymnastics, Ballet for example?
The closest ice rink to me is like 2 hours away but u still go to it but it’s so far away that I can only go twice a year or more so I usually practice off ice skating by roller-blading and dancing
can you please give me some examples of short and medium term goals? i don’t really know how fast i should be advancing but right now i am in learn to skate 2&3 and everything in it is really easy. idk if that helps but please lmk ❤
Everyone progresses at a different pace. My daughter was 9 1/2 when she started skating and has skated about a year and a half. She competes with skaters who have been skating 3-4 yrs. She competed after less than a year. It only took her 3 days to learn/land the Axel jump.
Really want to learn figure skating as a hobby and if possible compete but my country only has like 3 ice rinks and they are all too far away from my home😢
