    When would you plant for a deere food plot

  • @AFreeThinkingDawg09
    @AFreeThinkingDawg09 2 года назад +3

    This is awesome but unfortunately we’re too afraid to hunt our plots now bc wardens have given quite a few tickets saying we’re hunting over bait bc some of the seed doesn’t always take or get completely covered when we plow it 2-4 weeks before season start so if they find just 1 seed on the surface on digging thru the top soil it’s considered baiting and you’re DEFINITELY getting a ticket

    • @manyhatsentertainment8685
      @manyhatsentertainment8685 2 года назад

      It's a gray area bc if you have legumes and they are already growing and then you turn a small section of that 2 weeks before season they will come in a scratch up the rest and that is completely legal in most states even though there is technically bait there

    • @case8987

      They’re tyrants. Hunt your plots and don’t worry about what the states henchmen says.

    Im new to this and I would like to start a food plot.. we got a small propriety of a couple of acres and we would like to feed for deer and turkey. And I live up north in Canada so if you see this could you please tell me what you would choose to plant , the absolute perfect would be plants that would give deer food until late in the years and for the turkey in the spring. Thank you

      Jim Sobota got it off amazon. 12v DC 5gpm pump. Was about 80 bucks a few years ago. Comes with a inline screen as well

    Thanks for the video Dave keep them coming. Amazing work!!! When you first planted this food plot did you set up an electric fence to keep the Turkey and Deer out of it to give the seeds some time to grow?

      Thanks appreciate it. And no I didn’t not with these. All of these I planted in the fall. Now if I was planting soy beans or something on the spring then yes I would fence them off because I’m only working with 3 acres.

    From Michigan and think we just lost our turkey season today. Gov just made it illegal to visit a 2nd property, local travel only...Choose 1 spot and that is where you live until this passes. We are about 2 hours away from our new farm, so waiting for the official DNR response on what we can and can't do, but pretty sure it is over. Same thing applies for all the guys trying to fish on the great lakes...Can't fish with someone you don't live with, and cannot drive a distance to get to a state launch.

      @@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors I was looking to take my first turkey with bow this year. I bought a new bow with all new accessories which is great. But amidst this virus, I cannot find anyone to get my arrows setup. So it may just end up being 12ga again this year. Regardless, I am stoked as always!!

    I planted winter rye last fall with brassicas and not sure if I should put in clover here soon or wait until the fall and turn that plot into a perenial clover and chicory plot?

    • @Whitetailobsessionoutdoors
      @Whitetailobsessionoutdoors  3 года назад +1

      You can frost seed clovers into that. Let them establish and then just mow the rye and you’ll have a clover plot

      @@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors do I have to fertilize with the clover seed if I do that? The temps here in Iowa are 60 to 70 in the day and 40 to 50 in the eve. Will that be too cold for frost seeding. Snow just recently melted away in the last week and it's the first couple weeks at these higher temps

    • @Whitetailobsessionoutdoors
      @Whitetailobsessionoutdoors  3 года назад

      No that’s great temps to do it. With those warm
      Temps I woods fertilize when you throw seed out according to a soil sample.

      @@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors would you use just the liquid npk or pellet fertilizer? I wonder how good the pellet fertilizer would be if it's not worked into the soil

    • @Whitetailobsessionoutdoors
      @Whitetailobsessionoutdoors  3 года назад

      There’s pros and cons to granular fertilizer. Your soil can only hold so much according the the CEC. Also if not worked in there’s more chances of run off. Also is ph is low plants can’t utilize the fertilizer.
      Spraying the NPK is Instant. It makes it available 100 percent to the plants because you are bypassing the soil

    My family’s land once had turkeys, we haven’t seen any in around 15 years. Is it possible to re-introduce the population? Trying to figure out what I need to do.

    • @Whitetailobsessionoutdoors
      @Whitetailobsessionoutdoors  2 года назад

      In that situation you would need the habitat first. I don’t know much about reintroducing them I would reach out and search dr grant woods on RUclips for that. I think you can even email him and ask. He has lots of info on that/

    • @Whitetailobsessionoutdoors
      @Whitetailobsessionoutdoors  3 года назад

      Lol. So I spent my time and money to drive 5 hours one way to spray for a commercial? Lol. Get over it man. It’s not about attracting deer it’s about giving them what they need. It’s 3 acres of beautiful winter wheat that the deer are hammering of course I want to spray it. Busted by deer turkey hunting sure who hasn’t. Who cares. Sometimes you do sometimes you don’t. At this particular spot we haven’t. Turkeys come out first thing at day light we shoot and go home.
