I switched to this spec not too long after T5 was released and I'm pretty happy with it. Converted the other destruction locks in my guild to it too. Currently 96.6 average and trying to pick up some more 99's.
This is the best specc since like 2008 even on p1 vs fire/locks you dont need immo just spam sbs forever and you get to life tap less.the only bad thing is if your tank sucks as raising threath you need to stop and go for corrup/immo in the downtime to not pull agroo.
I like the 1 point in Improved Searing Pain better than Emberstorm. ~30% of the time I cast Searing Pain on trash mobs/bosses when they're about to die. Extra 4% crit comes in huge.
Can you share the syntax for the aura you use? Have you tested this with tanking? The warlock discord has had chatter about this a couple of times but the folks involved in those discussions seemed to have trouble getting the macro to work, or complained that even with cancelaura he'd briefly target someone else and begin his cast during the instant you're invulnerable, which would enough to wreak havoc and blow people up. Did that never happen to you?
@@Jivewired It will drop threat for half a second. But it's the same as when you bubble cancelaura as a paladin. Even if the mob targets someone else it will come right back.
I had a warlock in a hardcore guild call me retarded for playing this spec the same week I got multiple 99s in TK/SSC back in phase 2. Have stood by this spec since. It’s so OP. The reduced spell pushback is huge unless you have a pocket resto shaman to earth shield you or something. The number of times it’s saved my life or let me pinch out one more shadowbolt is too large to count haha.
Did a sim for my gear (4set t6, vashj vest, zhardoom) on a simulator found on the warlock discord. The values are not that big but essentially the highest dps is immolate build with fire mage. Followed by about 10 dps less with cataclysm build and another 20 dps lost if immolate with no fire mage. So tldr if no fire mage definitely cataclysm build
been running fire since p2 with a fire mage, can confirm it still smokes shadow easily and is alot more fun - if youre parsing 90+ as shadow, you'll go 99 as fire with a mage no problem
@@dwatson761 Me and the other destruction locks in my guild are all shadow despite having a fire mage since the beginning (he does really great dps despite not being arcane), and I've been saying to another lock we should trial going as fire for a couple of upcoming raids just to see because we are doing really well but we're looking to get a few more 99's. What do you think?
@@TomAndrews91 100% you will do more damage as fire, keep up immo, spam incin and finish with conflag. at this stage the gear is virtually identically to shadow anyway so if you dont like it, simply cast shadowbolt :) but yeh i went from basically all 95s to almost all 99s instantly after switching, its alot more consistent and less crit reliant for 99s too
So for the opening rotation, would you just cast your assigned curse, corruption a single time and then just shadow bolt spam the entire time? Would you also reapply a dot/corruption for bosses that threat drop like the final boss in ZA? Also whats a good crit and haste range to shoot for while we are chasing our current bis and filling spots with ZA gear, new crafted gear or badge gear? Currently have 84 spell haste, 22~23% crit unbuffed.
You pretty much never ever want to hard cast corruption. Only time you use that spell is if you're affliction since it's insta-cast. You throw on your assigned curse and then shadow bolt spam. If you have mana and are moving then you'll want to throw out a shadowburn. For threat drop bosses you can spend that few seconds life tapping.
Maybe I missed it but did you talk about Soul Leech? I'm wondering if 3 points in SP is better for finishing or if the Soul Leech is actually useful going forward.
Saaaaame getting double vanq on mother last week crushed my spirit, I am 3/4 pieces with just shoulders left its so tilting haha. This is with like 5 locks and 3 palys that too haha
Can't you still take nether protection and Make a macro for certain bosses that you got to tank to remove the aura while spamming a certain ability? If so that still might be worth
But what about all the fights where you have to move and stop casting SB ? Ideally you want to have a dot on the boss at all times to not lose any dps no ? I'm thinking about Illidari Council or Supremus for exemple
It might seem like a better bet, but I think the SB/Mana saved might be better - I'm going to try this spec out :) I'd love to be able to play DN but I think it ain't as good as DPS as this
If your raid is co-ordinated and really trying to pump, they would be actively trying to remove movement as much as possible. For Supremus, if your tanks are chads they will take the threat back on the focus phases so dps can zug zug. And on Illidari Council mages using the kite or AE melee tank strats for Zerevor will reduce the amount of aoe casts, thereby reducing movement and more zugzug.
For the sole purpose of casting, is Intensity 2/2 a better option? Meaning you have a 70% chance of not being interrupted while casting, all the time. To me it seems huge. In some fights it even keeps casting through knockbacks.
Hi n.n Incinerate build have more dmg, but need a mage fire with scorch X5 (15%) + passive talent fire lock 10% and 10% faster cast time ( 0.25) + destruction pot+ burst flame cap... Fire lock > shadow lock ppl fan service warcraftlogs u.u
If I have a fire mage in raid is it still worthwhile to be fire? I think i'll stay fire until fire is worse, but I wasn't sure if that is already happening
Imagine getting your FG/Succ killed by trash mobs that sneeze in a cone, then falling behind mages and hunters in damage. -This post was made by the destro gang.

Thanks for all the info! Good luck with the ZA trinket!
I actually got it lol.

Now we just need a tank that can hold aggro

Searing Pain macro with cancelaura nether protection fixes the threat drop issue, just spam that macro and you don't have to ever spec out of NP.

how tf can fall asleep casting shadowbolt when youre dropping 9k bombs every 1.3s
Would it not be a better idea to move that one point from Emberstorm to Aftermath? Seems it might benefit more.

Is the rotation curse then pretty much spam shadow bolt?
Yes lol
Yep lol
Couldn't we make a macro that removes nether protection? For warlock tanking. I don't know, I've been an affliction main forever.
/cancelaura - I have one for my Searing Pain just in cade I tank something
Nether prot is sick on Archimonde
Any video coming soon for affliction spec?
Yep!
what about affliction?
my cancelaura macro doesn't work ;(
I thought Nether Protection doesn't proc from Chaos Bolt / Fireball.
fire or shadow proc it..
it would be really good for ppl if you did a lock log review, so ppl can know what to look for when reviewing their own logs.
Tbh you can pretty much look on cosumes used and shadowbolts cast on most bosses.
does nether protection screw up when you're tanking a mob like illidan demon phase? I thought when you go immune you drop agro
