I like the fact that it not only takes down the tall stuff, but if you run it over that material once it is down, it pulverizes it. We have an acre, with three outbuildings, a large fenced area, and 16 raised bed boxes, so this would be better than a push lawn mower for us! Plus, we are both 70, and with the large wheels and its ergonomics this is better than a weed whacker for us! Thank you for your demo! Very helpful!
Yes. Please update with more tips and tricks. I ended up getting the earthquake only because it was available locally. I needed to start now and not wait another week to 10 days. I will also try some of your strings which I'll order tonight. Thanks again for your vids.
I love my machine. I do find the weeds wrap around the spindle and are very difficult to get out. Do you loosen the nut on bottom to help remove the weeds from the spindle?
I did a video this summer to follow up on all this and covered how I found to reduce tall grass from getting wrapped around the spindle: ruclips.net/video/0t7nPooL-v4/видео.html It doesn't eliminate it entirely but definitely reduces it. No I don't loosen the nut, I just use long needle nose pliers to pull out the grass.
I just use non ethanol gas in all my small engines, works a treat. There is a search engine online for non ethanol gas available in your area. There are only 2 shops in my local county where it can be found. I'm still experimenting with different types of string to find what works best.
Niiiiice video. Thanks. Question: how does it handle a straight line trim next to a fence.... Just grad. I want to use it in place of a normal weedeater as i have 6 acres of straight line GRASS Weedeating.
If the weather will cooperate here, I will try to do an update video. I have a few things to cover/go over and I can put some footage in of me trimming along a fence and rock wall.
Thanks for taking the time to review the mower/trimmer. Also, thanks for your comments on the different lines you used. Question: Why did you pick the toro over the other brands? I'm looking and hard to get a read on the reviews. They all say theirs is great. I'm about to order one very soon and appreciate your review and tips. Thanks.
I am backed up on videos but am working on a 2024 update video for the Trimmer Mower and what I have learned and experienced with it since I dropped the original video and some tweaks I made. Why did I get it? I've had a great experience with a regular Toro lawn mower. Probably the best mower I have owned or used for a long time. Cost was factor, along with size and weight. 70 pounds I can lift and transport around the farm. I have a big DR Brush Mower and it's so big, it almost requires it's own logistics operation to support it and as a result I rarely use it, unfortunately. The Toro, it does have some limitations though, it's not a brush hog and a few other things. I just used mine tonight to clean up along a rock wall, which it excels at.
I have an older Craftsman with the same design for the spinning reel. Grass gets caught up inside and i have to use needle nose pliers to clean it out. I was hoping this didnt have that same issue but i guess it does. Now i have to spend twice the money on a DR Power Pro.
Yes, well that is the dilemma, not only is the DR twice the cost but it is also heavier. This is just about the weight and size I can lift and put in the back of the RTV and take it around the property. I have a DR brush hog and it's so damn big I have to walk it everywhere and walking it over a mile over a mountain is no fun and a job in itself. I have grass that seemingly can grow up to 4ft high, so I think the best option is to try to keep it cut back to reduce any of those issues. I'm also experimenting with some new serrated twine here soon.
As part of the asymmetric warfare battle plan on weeds, I find it very convenient. It's perfect for trimming along rock walls, fences, around buildings and other stuff. I still have hand held trimmers for un even terrain and other stuff, but this works great for that other stuff. And I don't get covered in grass either. To each his own, everyone has a different situation.
Yes it shouldn’t be doing that. I had that issue earlier this year and took it to the local Toro dealer and turned out some cable got out of adjustment. Once he fixed that I was back in business. I’ll be covering that in my update video. Mines working great just did a big trim job around a bunch of rock walls
Yes, I researched it further. I have been mega busy this year and just took it to the dealer without looking into it, but looks like it's in the owners manual and is user serviceable, so I'll be including this in the video coming up.
Not sure if you’ve tried it yet but how did the .130 stuff work? Also, for the stuff I’ve done with a echo 2620t with .155 ugly line, it lasted a while. Might b worth a try once u diminish the line u have.
Winter closed in so I had to call it a day before I tried to use the .130 line. I suspect on some of the thicker stuff it probably would not last as long. My problem is I live rural with a constant encroachment of all sorts of vegetation so I have yet to find one single shot method to take it all down efficiently, which is why I have multiple tools to tackle it.
Check you don't have any grass jammed up in the spool and look underneath to check the belt is on. Mine slowed down this year and I took it to the local Toro dealer and they fixed it up, something wrong with a cable out of adjustment. If you are unsure, I would take it to your local small engine repair or Toro Dealer.

My trimmer line, new or old, lasts much much longer and sharper when soak overnite before re-spooling. Amazing difference. Hygrophorus material rejuvinates easily with water.

that walk behind string trimmer is a beast in tall and heavy weeds using the 155 string. Add stabilizer additive to ethanol gas

Not Convence... I will continue with my trimer and lawnmower 😎

Mine came in the mail today. Sending it back. Thing is weak as water. Boggs down in light grass.

Also I can revisit it in the spring with another video and try some different line out.
I love mine, but it just stopped working. It doesn't turn the string around anymore. Suggestions?

You sound like Ron Desantis LOL. Thanks for the review.
That's funny, maybe so, first time I have heard anyone say that.
Great video
Much appreciated, glad it was useful. I’ll try to do a video or two with it this spring testing out some new line.
Good thing a did not go for a hand held brush cutter.
They have their place. Every tool has it's limitations which is why I have ended up with a wide selection of tools.
