Lightweight is good and what did I use it for it’s a lawnmower ruclips.net/user/postUgkxTPN04aT-Qdjr_KS3ql7ng8wnU3wwsCqk also recommend Yes it is lightweight so hence not as robust as our old one. But if you take care it does the job really well.
Thanks for the video Pete! I just snagged a used one for $50 since I've got 4 acres of abandoned field/yard to tame before I go and buy a rider. And thanks for keeping the info accessable to even us women out here living the dream! Upstate NY near Lake Champlaign and the Adirondacks.❤❤❤
I have been really looking for the right equipment to handle this kind of brush and growth in southern Texas...and you taking the time to post a video like this really helped seal the deal for me that this is absolutely the right tool to have. Appreciate the time and effort you made to post this !!!! subscribing !
I bought one of these not too long ago and love it! It came with a Briggs and Stratton engine that starts with one pull, although it has one of those "no oil changes" gimmick which isn't that big of a deal because I will just change the oil yearly anyways. Once the engine is "broken in," it will be getting the Amsoil engine oil treatment.
Thanks for video, After working on my craftsman walk behind string trimmer for years now breaking down all the time I think I need a new DR like yours.
Thanks for the video. Must be a struggle to keep the vegetation at bay in a humid, subtropical climate. Gives me a bit of appreciation for the arid high desert here in the Northern Rockies. We have an old Sears high wheel trimmer that knocks down the occasional foxtail and thread-grass.
that bush around 7:00 there looked like multi flora rose, with the come-along thorn that hooks you and makes you come along with it ! I think one thing that gets forgotten about is, the first time you use it you're going to have those bigger bushes that the trimmer won't handle well but when you mow it a second time, they will be smaller and more tender and will cut easily, that is unless you wait like a year between mowings.
Thanks for the information. We just got a trimmer for our South Texas buffle grass. My husband had a difficult time turning it off. I'll show this to him.
Thanks for the info Pete. Slaying vegetation in shorts, GET SOME! Looks like a good piece of gear for new land owners to knock into unknown obstacles when clearing out new/overgrown areas vs a push/ride on mower
I've had my Husqvarna trimmer mower for over 10 yrs. now. I am definitely not advertising it over the DR or many other high quality trimmer mowers on the market. The Husqvarna has since been discontinued anyway. What I am saying is, a good quality trimmer mower is a Godsend to anyone that lives in the country with a lot of grass covered area. I've used mine extensively along fence rows, along creek beds, and any place where the grass is too tall and too think to use a regular hand held trimmer or places a mower or tractor with a brush cutter can't get to.
I have an old school dr trimmer, with a 6hp Tecumseh. $30, at a thrift store. Probably $50 in easily found parts. It is amazing. I feel like a DR commercial every time I fire it up. Probably gonna trim the path through the woods out back today. These things seem to stand the test of time. I grabbed a roll of .105 string, because that's what was available. It seems to work fine with that, so far. I'm going to find a spot to carry a pair of loppers on the machine, instead of heavier string or blades. Thanks for the video!
Great review. I bought this same mower/trimmer last year. Love it, it's a powerful machine though! Tried to use it to weed eat around my storage building, it busted right through the PVC conduit! It's a little cumbersome to maneuver in uneven and rocky terrain but other than that it's well worth the money. I bought the beaver blade but haven't used it yet.
That bush is Privet hedge we have it here. PITA to get rid of. It runs and makes a node and that is a new bush. Have to dig those out to get rid of it. If you like a hedge row they do make a nice one but you must trim it.
My Dad got the DR trimmer when they first came out. It had a plastic shield mounted above the motor. Got in the way so he took it off. It does a dynamite job and saves your back from the weed eater swing.
Looks like it did a good 👍🏾 job!!!!! I can see it being way more efficient.... for an area with alot of tall WEEDS, over using a hand held weed wacker.
Husqvarna makes a titanium inserted wire/plastic cord, It'll cut bushes as thick as your finger. (Lowes, Tractor supply or Home Depot.) Wear eye cover though. It's bad ass stuff!
Great video! Thank you. A couple of questions for you. When do you change the cords? Do you wait until they break? Or how short can they get before you change them? Also, did you get their extended warranty? Thank you.
Hi Pete, It looked like it was fairly easy to handle in rough brush. How about on hills? Is there an advantage to getting the self-propelled version of the trimmer?
good video have one in my cart wanted to check out a few things note; to change oil may i suggest a handheld vacuum syphon pump, I use one to change oil in my power stroke 7.3 high pressure oil pump.
Only problem with trimmer mowers in general is that they're way overpriced for what you get. I bought the "Pilot" model which is the cheapest one. The only thing I don't like is also the only thing that makes it the cheapest model. It doesn't have any clutch control so the strings are spinning all the time when the engine is running. Just an FYI, but I find it works best to go around the edge in a counter-clockwise direction. Just like a lawn mower, it ejects material to the right so you want to feed in material on the left with open space to the right.
Im looking to get one for about 5 acres of various weed whacking. Any reason you went with the DR? I dont see them on any list, which is weird. I guess because they dont sell them on amazon maybe?? I dunno. Did you look at the earthquake? I dunno about briggs engines anymore.
hi pete! hello from east texas, also. We must have bought the machine at the same time!😅 What an awesome.machine. I went ahead and got the spool of orange cable. Plus, the beaver blade(havnt tried yet). Enjoy your channel. thx larry
I have this same model. Used it for 2 years now. The first year it did great on our 10 acre property with a large pond, a creek, and a pasture. The 2nd year...not so great. The belt started slipping quite a bit and the battery for the battery start died. I will say it starts up with one pull every time. Do not..and I repeat, do not get the blade attachments. The instructions are missing essential information on how to install and remove and the kit was missing the main bolt that holds the head in place. A call to DR that lasted nearly an hour finally got that bolt identified (their instructions did not match mine, and my parts list didn't even show the bolt) and mailed to me. After install, the blades were virtually indistinguishable from the string. They could cut through small 1/2' trees, but that was about it. Weeds would easily get wrapped around the head when using it. On top of that, it clearly puts a lot of stress on the belt as at one point, the belt actually smoked. Last, there is a design flaw in that weeds can get inside the head where it attaches to the underside of the frame and wrap around the turning shaft, causing more stress on the belt. I spent over an hour digging these weeds out of hole in the side of the head that is used to lock the head down from turning when putting on a different attachment. It is about 1/4" so you can imagine my frustration with this. Overall, I would select a different brand if I had to do it all over again.
The new motors are designed to be disposable. Without oil changes they only last 2 years or so. The internals are mostly plastic. They are garbage with a high price tag
❤thank you. I have 5 acres in Arizona and I hv to cut down the obnoxious weed chamomile/stinknet. As a woman who does most of the work on my property by myself and I girl rig it a lot I do appreciate your advice, and the look of your property is similar to mine so you have convinced me to purchase this Weedwhacker again thank you.Dawn
Hi Pete! The DR trimmer is excellent. I recently showed the TroyBilt one. These machines are amazing to take care of what a normal trimmer just cannot withstand or where the brush hog cannot get too.
Thanks for taking the time to make the video. I'd be curious to see how it performs with the other blade options. I have a area that's full of stumps that makes mowing impossible. Also becoming overgrown with small saplings.
My 2012 Home Depot's Coleman powermate Weed eater high wheels mower .155 inches long 22"inches cutting widths,6 horsepower Briggs Stratton 2 cycle never started up and never had been smooth engine never had smooth cutting hays and weeds and tall Johnson Grass always have been stopping power cutting every time in one roll of ever 5 feet cutting and quit running.
Terrific! I just decided today I was getting one, the same model actually. We have right at 5 acres in Arkansas. Very humid and hot summers. I have a pacemaker implanted so swinging that gas weed eater around kind gets to me now. I think, especially after watching your video, that I made the right choice. Thanks for posting this video.
Hello Pete!!!! Nice to see you again, GOD bless you and your family and many thanks for sharing your videos. My son is interested in this mower and he is in town picking it up today. He just purchased 80 acres in south Texas close to me. He and his family, plus his in laws left the city life. Lots of brush to mow and clean up of the private country roads on his property that are overgrown from the rains we had. This machine is a monster! Lol
Awesome 80 acres is a nice amount of land. He will definitely have to have a tractor with a brush hog implement and use the trimmer mower for the tight spots.
Great video, thanks for going in depth, very interesting to hear that the twisted cord is so much quieter. It doesn't sound like it bogged down at all, pretty cool!
I have the premier model and I got the tree guard and the cord caddy. I would highly recommend getting the cord caddy for it so you can make up extra lines and not have to walk everywhere.

I am wondering how this DR Pro trimmer has held up for you and also how did the aluminum 6 blade trimmer work on those shrubs? I have both woody vine, wild roses, brambles, huckleberry saplings, poison hemlock and you name it, if it grows in the Ohio Valley, I have to cut it down. So, because Im a petite, senior female its gotten out of hand along my fence rows and a couple pasture have 7' tall p. Hemlock. I digress, how did that multiblade trimmer work and have you tried the beaver blade?
A Stihl FS 240 bike handle trimmer with the brush knife would make easy work of that type of brush. I just cut 0.4 acres of those kinds of bushes mixed with 3 foot high grass in about 5 hours. Then switch out the cutter head for the string trimmer and cut miles of fence line. I've always thought about getting a string mower, but a powerful bike handle trimmer with the proper cutting head seems to be faster and more versatile.
I have the same trimmer and it works well with heavy thick grass and weeds. I have a lot of roots where I use the trimmer and the wheels seem to get hung up on those roots. Other than that it works great. I would like to add that if you leave it stored for any length of time you will want to put treated gasoline in it or it will not start when you want it to.
Hi Pete, I love my DR Trimmer, I have mobility issues so having a trimmer that I can push and not have to carry it great, I also upgraded to to the quick lock head, it makes installing line much easier with arthritic hands. One big plus to the quick lock head is that you can use the 225 Mil saw tooth line and even larger 255 Mil
I agree. Where I live in Deep East Texas on the south side of the lake, we call that yopon. And you can't let it get out of control. Put you a Bush Hog brand mower deck on that tractor and go to town on that stuff.

He'll have to adjust the cable so when you push the throttle to off, it actually pushes the throttle on the carburetor all the way off.
Oh I thought you meant he enjoyed it Soo much that he decided to mow some more. LOL 😂 and can't put it down. LOL
Thanks for the info Pete.

Great video! Thank you. A couple of questions for you. When do you change the cords? Do you wait until they break? Or how short can they get before you change them? Also, did you get their extended warranty? Thank you.
I change the lines when they either break or get too short, you'll know when it's time. No I didn't get an extended warranty.
Hi Pete, It looked like it was fairly easy to handle in rough brush. How about on hills? Is there an advantage to getting the self-propelled version of the trimmer?
Self propelled would be better if you have hills but otherwise you really don't need it.
What's better the Trimmer or a Toro. i can't make up my mind.
Thanks for the video!
thanks for the video, i would appreciate if you get and make a video with durablades.
Isso é para andar sempre para a frente que é melhor que andar para trás e para a frente
think id rather get a brush mower if i ever had a need for something like this?
good video have one in my cart wanted to check out a few things note; to change oil may i suggest a handheld vacuum syphon pump, I use one to change oil in my power stroke 7.3 high pressure oil pump.

I'd like something electric so I don't have to worry with gas and oil. The small gas engines are a pain in the offseason.
Im looking to get one for about 5 acres of various weed whacking. Any reason you went with the DR? I dont see them on any list, which is weird. I guess because they dont sell them on amazon maybe?? I dunno. Did you look at the earthquake? I dunno about briggs engines anymore.
There’s another thing that works better on those little bushes than that DR trimmer. IT’S CALLED A BRUSH HOG!!!
Dang that thing eats!
Also Walgreens has a face shield
My Craftsman would slice through that stuff that broke your line I was considering buying dr but idk now
hi pete!
hello from east texas, also.
We must have bought the machine at the same time!😅
What an awesome.machine. I went ahead and got the spool of orange cable. Plus, the beaver blade(havnt tried yet). Enjoy your channel. thx larry
oh yah, what about the chiggers?😉
No chiggers.........................yet!
Seems like the handle is to short? You’re hunching over a little…
The handle is adjustable, I had it too low.
Is it still working from you?
Still working great 👍
No lo veo muy rápido, avanzas más con una desbrozadora
Damn “music”
Looks like it could take on John Henry himself.
CURIOUS AS TO WHY YOU DON’T USE A BUSH HOG BEHIND YOUR TRACTOR..
Because the driveway is about two to three feet higher than ground level and I also have culvert piping there.
Brush hog ! 😅

I've had a DR for many years. Tip: since it throws cut material to the right, if you make runs with uncut material to your left it works much better.
I have this same model. Used it for 2 years now. The first year it did great on our 10 acre property with a large pond, a creek, and a pasture. The 2nd year...not so great. What did you end up doing with the dr ? Did you keep it or buy something different?
10 acres
Dang looks like you would bought a real beast.
10 acres is Tractor time.
The new motors are designed to be disposable. Without oil changes they only last 2 years or so. The internals are mostly plastic. They are garbage with a high price tag

Thanks for taking the time to make the video. I'd be curious to see how it performs with the other blade options. I have a area that's full of stumps that makes mowing impossible. Also becoming overgrown with small saplings.
Thanks for the details on this machine, you did a great job explaining how to even maintain it! 👍🏻👍🏻
That's all I needed to see! Thanks for the review video and showing "Realistic" high weed examples (not just 5" grass trimming) :)
Did you do a video with the blades on it? I'd love to see how it does on those wild bushes you have!
No I haven't, the only option they had for blades were plastic ones and that won't work.
The small shrubs are privet and very invasive. Nice machine.
Yep that's it, Thanks
Excellent review........how has it held up? Would you recommend this or a different brand? Thanks in advance.
Great video! I have the same model. Very happy with it. Thanks for posting.
I had the same issue when I tried the spiral twisted cord it broke off when mowing saplings. The green cord seem to stand up well on everything.
Can you comment on DR's spare parts availability and service? Thanks
Bike handle brush cutter with a tri blade would make short work of that stuff.
Hello Pete!!!! Nice to see you again, GOD bless you and your family and many thanks for sharing your videos. My son is interested in this mower and he is in town picking it up today. Wear long sleeve shirts and pants, juice from the plants can irritate the skin
WOW that's nice! Would love to see how it works with the blade on it some time! GOD BLESS YOU & YOUR FAMILY!
to much Plastic in nature ;-(((( it´s just stupid.....
Great content! Great presentation!
Where is available in 'india' ??
Wish the wheels were wider
I have the premier model and I got the tree guard and the cord caddy. I would highly recommend getting the cord caddy for it so you can make up extra lines and not have to walk everywhere.
How easy is it to push with the smaller wheels?
Great review. Thank you.
Ciao. I checked yesterday to see if I had missed a video.
Isn’t there a special bush tool that would go with your tractor?
Yes I have a brush hog that goes on my tractor, but this mower trimmer is better for tight areas or places you just can't go with a brush hog.
Handel looks a little low. For us tall people, another 4 inches or so would help the back.
I forgot to mention that the handle is adjustable.
Hello Pete.. hope you can recommend me the driving type next time...so that I dont feel so tire.....
Honestly I don't think the self propelled model would be good for me because I go back and forth a lot with it the trimmer mower.
Hi Pete new sub...enjoyed the video... Nicely done with great info!...Take care!
Thank you 👍
Hello my friend !
Good to have you back !
I like your boots I like it from the beginning. Can you tell us what kind they are or make review or something about them.
Greetings from Germany ! 🇩🇪
Thank you, You might be able to find them. They are made by Wolverine and are called "Wolverine Men's Ingham W06682 Work Boot" Just search them online.
Thank you !
I found them !
For Europe are currently unavailable. I found them on the website in US but the shipping it’s almost the same price with the boots. 🤷🏻♂️
Scusa, ho controllato i prezzi e costa molto di più. Caro.
Vi auguro, che lo sponsor guarderà i vostri video e ve ne offrirà uno. Come succede a volte.
Grazie, e spero che DR power me ne offra uno
Pete and repete
That machine sucks! I bought it and the chain blade and it’s like a damn toy.
How tall are you? I'm looking at getting one and I am 6'6". I didn't know if it would be tall enough for someone my height.
Do they have electric start
Yes they do
I am wondering how this DR Pro trimmer has held up for you and also how did the aluminum 6 blade trimmer work on those shrubs? I have both woody vine, wild roses, brambles, huckleberry saplings, poison hemlock and you name it, if it grows in the Ohio Valley, I have to cut it down. So, because Im a petite, senior female its gotten out of hand along my fence rows and a couple pasture have 7' tall p. Hemlock. Send it back free returns and get a DR Field and Brush Mower instead! It will increase the happiness ask me I know!!
Man wouldn’t in be easier to just get a bush mower attachment for your tractor???
I also have those bushes on my property I believe it's native to Japan
Been using a 16 year old DR and it’s taken care of plus no problem at all
How do you think this compares with a high end brushcutter?
wearing shorts? really bro? 🤦🤦
I don't think you understand how hot it gets here in Texas 😩
@@petebeasttexashomesteading ayyy.. that's risky business tho
The 155 has been great for my work area, bigger the wheels the better
I just got a DR from g landscaper for $10.00 workers great
How about a brush hog mower!
I agree. Where I live in Deep East Texas on the south side of the lake, we call that yopon. And you can't let it get out of control. Put you a Bush Hog brand mower deck on that tractor and go to town on that stuff.
Brush hog mowers are great for large open areas but the trimmer mowers are good for tight areas that a brush hog can't go.
It's $2 thousands dollars more than regular DR 7 horsepower Briggs Stratton non-propel non-battery start trimmer mower of $900.
Hi Pete. How did the grafted pear tree turn out? I've been looking for an update or did I miss it?
Why can’t you use your brush hog.
Hey Pete! How's Lily doing?
Now, spray it. 😅
Is the bush Yaupon?
I really need one of these
