    I've been using a cheap Black & Decker corded electric edger, which is basically a circular saw on a stick, for the past 5 years. I don't have a lot of edging to do, and I've moved completely away from gas yard machines since moving down here to Florida from Minnesota, so this was a good alternative to using my string trimmer which just doesn't work as well. I like that it has a guide in the front and a little fin behind the blade that keeps it along the edge of the concrete, as well as three wheels to help keep it stable. The 50' cord I use is a little bit of a hassle, but since I don't have much to do it's easily manageable. I did have to re-solder the wires to the brushes in the motor to keep it working (I did say it was cheap), but since then it's been a real trooper.

      I also have a Black and Decker. A friend didn't need it anymore and gave it to me. I wonder if its similar to yours. I don't hate it. It does the job well but it can be tough to use in some areas and the cord can be a hassle.

    • @djdawso
      @djdawso Месяц назад

      @@SVW1976 Yes, it's heavy, and the fin in back can keep it from getting close to corners sometimes, and it's super loud (exactly like a circular saw), and the cord can be a little bit of a bother, but aside from that it's kinda OK. And it doesn't need gas, which is a huge thing for me now.

    I’m buying the kombi pieces from Echos Shindaiwa line because I like red 😂. They r a remarkably affordable setup . If the spindle part on your weed eater needs replaced it costs more than the kombi weed eater attachment on my kombi . I found that interesting . I don’t like that they aren’t selling them with zerk fittings but you can buy them and install them yourself . Idea for a video 😂. I like the red armor

    I would tend to go with a traditional edger over this tool. WAY better at both power and accuracy. The only advantage I can see is on internal edges where you can't ride on concrete... but those edges are rarely straight anyway and are thus better off to be done with a string trimmer that is better at following curves. I see this more as a power-head tool where it saves me from having another motor to maintain/take up space at the sacrifice of quality. Maybe i'm missing something? I'm told it might have happened once.
    I do the exact same protocol of starting the 2 cycle then finding my PPE etc while it warms up. ALWAYS let 2-cycles warm up and they'll not betray you.

    Straight edger (Milwaukee M18, with a head that changes from edger to string trimmer) for the driveway and sidewalks. For the flower beds (concrete with lots of curves) I use the string trimmer held upright. The Milwaukee is light enough that it's easy. Still haven't gotten good, though, as my circles around my trees, but I'm getting there. Thanks for another great video, J.B.

    After trying to edge with a cheap trimmer with edger attachment I was afraid to get a lesser powered edger so I skipped over the PE225 and went to the PE2620. It's a beast but it's loud. It can edge anything. If I get mud I just wash it off before putting away. I also wanted the metal guard on the 2620.

    That's good advice for starting any small motor like that. As soon as it tries to fire even just once, take that choke off. Otherwise you're gonna flood it , and it won't start for quite some time no matter how many times you pull that cord !!

    At 6'8" I have to bend down a bit no matter what tool I use. That being said, my Stihl string trimmer came with a shoulder belt I can attach to the trimmer to make it easier to handle and neraly be able to stand straight up and use. I can operate the trimmer one handed while wearing the belt which also makes walking forward a lot easier. You might check and see if Echo makes a similar shoulder belt. If not, get one from Stihl and connect it to your Echo. Just a thought.

    Thanks for helping to bring out the classics this week, JB!
    AND... I've used both a string trimmer and an edger to do my lawn edging. It depends on the situation. Usually, an edger is better suited for the first edging of the season or after long intervals. String trimmer is good enough for lighter edging jobs.

    Great review JB! You definitely have a lot of edging to do! Echo is a great product. Is there a shoulder strap that can be used on that? It may reduce fatigue and stress on your back. Cheers my friend! Any weekend plans?

Could probably even rig something up if needed. Not a bad edger though! How was your weekend my friend? Feeling alright lately?

      Hey Kanye I composted the lawn last fall and it’s booming right out of the gate! Light dose of fertilizer in November. I always fertilize as soon as the ground is no longer frozen with something organic and the lawn is firing on all cylinders right now. Love this time of year for it. How’s your lawn looking?

    EGO done with the fuel....EGO weed/edger combo is perfection. Match the combo with their 56v blower and you have 3 units that use the same 56v battery. Simple.... case closed.

    What’s the difference between the red armor and the regular Echo oil?

    • @Athonite
      @Athonite 2 месяца назад +2

      The regular oil (powerblend) is a solid JASO-rated fuel, no problems with it. But Red Armor is truly better - the easiest starts I have ever had with my OPE. Steve's small engine saloon's demonstration was really convincing, he used an endoscope to show it removing existing deposits from the piston and spark arrestor. It does smell kinda funky when it burns, but performance wise I can't complain. Oil is cheap, engine rebuilds are pricey, after all 👍

    I don't have that much edging to do, so I use my Ryobi battery (4ah) trimmer to edge. I does have a small wheel and the head turns 90 degrees to make things easier. For what I do, it's fine.

      Usually I drain the gas out and fill up the gas tank with a whole small bottle of 50:1 oil mix. And then prime it until i see it in the bulb. That way the carb diaphragm stays lubricated!👍 in the spring drain out the oil. Fill it back up with 50:1 gas/oil mix and she starts right up. Might smoke a for a minute but she runs great!

Idea for a video 😂

    Motors for echo assembled in Japan, then the entire thing is assembled here. Why they say assembled in USA and not made in USA. Then you have the old ones and the current 3020 that is still made in Japan.
