    Was literally just at the range 10 minutes ago. Was slicing driver about 20 yards off line.(Which was my normal miss from a few years ago.) Started thinking about getting my right shoulder under my chin at follow through. Striped 10 drives in a row right down the middle. I was keeping my shoulders moving through the whole swing.

    Oh my God - this is EXACTLY what I look like when I'm swinging the club. I've been trying to fix this forever and no matter what drills I do - and I perform the drills perfectly, by the way - when I go back out there to swing for real, that "flick" thing comes back just naturally. This "shoulders" tip is wonderful and another affirmation as to why your channel is the best golf instruction channel out there - bar none. And what makes you really special is that you make me laugh out loud with every video I watch. Thanks so much!

      I sincerely appreciate your kind words, and I'm very glad to know that my lesson content and teaching style are resonating with you and providing clarity in the muddied, overly complicated, oft-conflicting realm of golf instruction.
      With regard to that "flick thing", those "ghosts of swings past" are stubborn and they don't give up without a fight. One suggestion is to spend some time working on your swing rhythm. There are two things at play here: 1) Discovering and dialing in our ideal swing tempo, and 2) Feeling that transition - or the change in direction - so we don't rush our downswing from the top and thereby lose our sequencing to the "hit" instinct (a very common affliction within the amateur golfing realm, and perhaps related to your "flick"). Our perfect tempo/rhythm - which is unique to each of us individually - thereby enables us to gather and unload the various components in proper order for seemingly effortless, powerful ball striking bliss.
      Thanks for your message, keep up the great work, and keep it fun out there!

      Beyond that, if you'd really like to get on the fast track towards properly learning this swing system in a comprehensive, sequential platform, please consider my online school. It will make for a far more efficient, superior, and enjoyable learning process rather than haphazardly trying to piece things together through these channel videos that jump around randomly from topic to topic. The school is where you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish, along with diagnostic and corrective tools for resolving common swing, contact, and ball flight issues, and much more. Thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result, and their unsolicited testimonials tell the story quite well: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. At just $14.99/month or $149.99 per year the value in terms of what you get for that price point is beyond comprehension, and based on proven results it represents by far the best golf instruction deal on the planet.
      And if you'd like to first "dip a toe in the water" prior to diving into the school, then here is a link to my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ It's a great way to further your familiarization of this swing system and be introduced to the structured learning method that is delivering the referenced results.

    People forget that the entire body is connected. Imagine that. Try turning your shoulders completely while your hips stay stagnant. You're lower back will be destroyed. Shoulders move, hips move, chest moves. Isolating every specific movement in swinging anything is the definition of counter-productive. Tom has just given the only swing thought to have. And from there you can start gettin freaky with it.

      Unfortunately, such sorcery from this dark underworld of golf instruction rarely finds its way to the mainstream because if too many folks found out about it the mainstream would then be rendered irrelevant....... 😎
      Consider that despite all the advances in equipment, technology, golf course grooming, etc. the average golfer still struggles to break 100. Epic failures within the realm of “conventional” instruction, perhaps??? So many misconstrued and/or misguided teachings - such as taking the club straight back, turning the shoulders level while independently lifting the arms, shifting into and torquing against a firm trail side, firing the hips, actively rolling the hands through impact, etc. - have relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of inconsistency and chronic frustration (and chronic back/knee/hip pain as well). I’m doing my best here to clear these up one by one and put an end to this madness, and I sincerely appreciate your validating remarks in this regard.
      Thanks!!

    Such gold. My thing is when I get in front of buddies or want to "show off" at the range, I try to use to much power and don't create those crispy shots and honey mustard divots. Instead I am taking broccolini off the shelves and dipping it in week old blue cheese. Its just no good. Tempo is the key!

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  Год назад +1

      LOL!! No no no - that broccolini needs to be gently sautéed with some garlic and olive oil and served up with some crispy Italian bread!
      Instead of thinking "show-off" in those situations, change your mindset to "slow-off". In other words, feel as though you are slowing your swing tempo so you can concentrate on making a full turn and feel the transition in your big muscles instead rushing down from the top with the hands and arms. This does not mean that we’re going to be slow through the zone. We are simply dialing in our tempo for grooving the correct path and achieving consistent sweet spot contact (i.e.: maximizing our “smash factor”). Think in terms of Els, Couples, Matsuyama, Cam Young, Morikawa, for example.
      So yes - tempo is THE key!!

Following three or four of your simple instructions I gained 30 yds and hit the ball crisply. It has given me hope for beating 100 again. Your instructions are genius and has renewed my appetite for golf again. Thank you.

      @SagutoGolf Hi Tom,
      your videos are so simple to follow and to enjoy. You break it down nicely in digestible chunks in a very common sense way, explaining the science and physics behind it. I have seen many golf tutor channels, but by a massive stretch, yours is the best by far. you simply take your time in a humours way, with your 'food referrals', which are hilarious, and you explain so well, my game improved massively after following your tips, still a lot of work in front of me but with your help I sped it up massively. I've been playing only for 4 months, had a lesson which helped a lot but even my live tutor was unable to, for example, explain the relationship with the ball and standing distance, which is critical! you did it effectively and effortlessly, big THANK YOU FOR THIS! 😊 🙏

    Started playing for the first time last May and I've played every other sport left handed. For some reason I could not correct my bad baseball slice left handed so I decided to swing right handed. I started watching you and progressed quickly then...I watched other instructors and then digressed quickly. About a month ago, I decided that you are the only RUclips instructor that I'm allowing in my brain! Shot 92 with 7 double bogeys. Thank you for simplifying things and making golf fun :). One thing that I would enjoy watching (even though it is not where you've decided to reside on RUclips) is a round or 9 holes where we can watch every part of your game. Personally, I feel like I would gain so much more by watching you drive, approach, and chip. The best clubs in my bag are 7 through wedges. I've literally put my driver in a long timeout, however, I've been watching your old driving videos with the slight hip forward approach and need to practice that. Anyways, long post but Thank you for all you do! And would consider playing a couple holes?

      With regard to watching different videos from different sources, your personal experience is case in point that we must be careful about navigating the muddied, overly-complicated, oft-conflicting realm of golf instruction. That is not a dig against any other teachers out there. It's simply best to commit to a system - whether it be this body-friendly, powerful, consistent, low-maintenance method or another - put your blinders on, and stick to it. And if the system I teach appeals to you or at the very least stokes your curiosity, then here is a link to my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker” where you can learn some key aspects of it in a more structured manner before fully committing to it: go.saguto.golf/

      Yeah that 92 was also with 7 double bogeys so I know I'll break 90 soon. There are no slights towards any other instructors for sure. It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion. Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built.

That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step from setup to finish. Tom … I truly believe your “keep your shoulders moving in a circle” is one of THE TRUE FUNDAMENTALS. So many things in golf are taught as fundamentals… but they are actually latent reactions to an actual fundamental. I do believe that “keep the shoulders moving” must be combined with “ROTATE AROUND A STABLE ANCHORED SPINE” … at least for me. Your shoulders turn in a circle imagery keeps the club on plane , sequences the body, keeps the head/spine behind ball at impact, creates lag … so many things that are taught separately as fundamentals… but are actual latent RESULTS of the true fundamentals. If a person takes your advice … and learns to set up AND ALIGN PROPERLY (another fundamental in my opinion) … they will hit it consistently solid in their intended direction
    Please keep up the great teaching and thank you!!!

      This swing key also applies to the driver. To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some practice range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: ruclips.net/video/o0xscMyN3v8/видео.html Beyond that, if you search the word "drive" on this channel you'll see some related content.

      Go easy on your, posterior, James - it's not your fault! 😎 Sadly, many well-intended yet misguided teachings of widely accepted "conventional" instruction - such as excessively strong grips, taking the club straight back, turning the shoulders level while independently lifting the club, shifting into and torquing against a firm trail side, firing the hips, actively hinging the wrists and rolling the hands through impact, etc. - have relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of chronic frustration (and chronic back/knee/hip pain as well). I’m doing my best here to clear these up, put an end to the madness, and get folks on the path towards consistently crispy, powerful, body-friendly ball striking bliss.

    What to do if you don't have that much flexibly. I'm pushing the 70 mark & can't seem to get that much turn in my shoulders.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  Месяц назад

      Simple solution, Dave! A significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion. Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built.
      For example, the outward flaring of both feet 10-20 degrees in our setup facilitates the proper amount of body-friendly, free-flowing hip turn back and through. This is a major power source, and it also keeps the club traveling on the correct path. If you were to square your feet so that they were perpendicular to the target line, then your hips would be impeded from turning sufficiently in the backswing (which would then inhibit the shoulders from executing a full and effortless turn), and from releasing properly in the downswing to propel the club through the zone. Restricting this action can cause a variety of path issues and/or also place strain on the lower back, lead knee, and the hip joints as the hips will "want" to move laterally and turn through into the finish but will be fighting the body in the process.
      Have you looked into the comprehensive, sequential learning platform of the online school yet? That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish. The value in terms of what you get for the low price point is beyond comprehension, and based on proven results it represents by far the best golf instruction deal on the planet.

      You don't need the flexibility of a Romanian gymnast - or even of this far less pliable golf instructor - to execute this swing, experience great ball striking, and reclaim - or even exceed - yardages from years past. I hope you'll give the school some thought.

    Hey Tom,
    This is Gabe, not sure if you remember me but I’ve commented a few times before. I just wanted to thank you so much for your instruction. Today I played in our high schools district tournament and helped our team qualify for the state championship. We thought that we had been beaten by another team by ONE STROKE. Turns out they can’t count and we actually were tied. So I shot a 97 through 18 holes which placed me in second place on my team. The top two from both teams go to the playoff hole. I hit my drive down the middle, pured my iron shot to the left of the green by putting weight on my lead foot, tucked in my elbow and chipped up to the green, and made the 15 FOOT PUTT FOR PAR
    I can’t thank you enough for helping my golf game and I can’t wait to get better from your videos! Wish me luck at state!
    Gabe

    I like your teaching, but every lessons changed from what you preached from one to the next. In one lesson, you said to glue your elbow. In this lesson, when you are using your shoulder, you don’t tuck no sh it. Too conflicting!!

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  3 месяца назад

      It is all part of the same swing system, Nick, and thus there is no conflict. You see, I do my best to convey multiple “feels” or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible. We're all different physiologically and psychologically, and something that resonates effectively with one golfer may not necessarily work for another. As such, it is important to understand that the lessons on this channel - while fully aligned with the swing method I teach - address a variety of topics, issues, feels, and/or common flaws/fixes from one episode to the next. They are certainly not intended to be taken as a comprehensive, step-by-step, position-by-position learning platform like the structured curriculum of my online school, which I strongly recommend to anyone who truly wishes to get on the proper path towards owning this swing as it will make for a far more efficient and enjoyable learning process rather than haphazardly trying to piece things together through my RUclips content. The lessons and drills provide the guidelines and set the boundaries, while allowing ample leeway for each individual golfer to infuse and exercise their own uniqueness. Thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result of the school, and their unsolicited testimonials tell the story quite well: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews.

    A little over a year ago I watched one of Tom's videos on focusing on driving the shoulders, not arms or hips at the start of the down swing and it changed my golf game forever. I literally went from 125yds to 145-50 on my PW. Great contact, no more fat shots. Went from a 14 to a 6 handicap in a year! It's my only swing thought now, start the downswing with the lead shoulder and GET the trail shoulder through. That's it! Nothing more! The arms are only a long for the ride just like a trebuchet. The hips will drive and lead without having to think about it. The only thing I have to make sure to retain tilt, not just turn shoulders horizontal.
    Thanks Tom for changing my golf life!!

    More Notes to Self:
    To begin with, there is nothing straight about the golf swing, it’s organic, and naturally created by the human form. The fact that the ball goes straight is incidental to the swing. The ball simple happens to be, if it does happen to be, in the right place at the right time as your swing passes through; it’s up to the golfer to put it in the right spot. Perhaps one of the greatest obstacles to a proper Hoganesque swing is Hogan himself, or Sam Snead, Bobby Jones or Rory McElroy. These solid ball strikers appear idealic swinging a club in films. Even in real life a golf partner who always strikes the ball well appears relaxed and easy when they swing so much so that it leads one to believe the golf swing is a beautiful dance of moving parts when in fact it is one brutal and concise maneuver. Keeping the arms straight and close to your sides at take away is essential. Tipping your weight forward ensures your shoulders turn on the correct arc ( I say arc because just as there are no straight lines in the swing there also is no circle ) when your straight arm and shoulders carve the arc your hips will automatically complete the turn. Once you have completed your turn the rest is momentum. All of this that seems brutal to enact, and feels square and awkward at first, becomes a pure joy when the ball suddenly distances itself from you -it’s gone, split, departed-- taken off on a glorious flight down the fairway, sailing into the distance getting smaller and smaller until finally, gently coming down, landing on a soft bit of grass far, far away and close-ish to where you intended. The golf swing is an aspiration.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  6 месяцев назад

      .....But it should not feel as though it is a fleeting aspiration or one incapable of producing lasting rewards and enjoyment!!
      The golf swing is indeed overly complicated in particular by one part of the human body - the brain and all the swing nonsense and misguided instruction it has been fed. Garbage in, garbage out; and countless golf swings have sadly been trashed as a result. This is not saying that golf is "easy" as it most certainly is anything but. However, the perceived and overstated complexities of the swing itself can be greatly simplified to convey motions that are body-friendly and physiologically sound, and which simultaneously and effectively harness physics and geometry to produce a most satisfying and sustainable experience. That is what my instruction content and teaching style are rooted in, and unsolicited testimonials from some of the countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - who are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result tell the story quite well: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews

    yes, i guess we're all on a journey with this game. the shot played from a deep divot in last weeks pga tour event demonstrated the importance of trail shoulder rotation thru the shot ; and, the key- as you demonstrate- is to turn it thru towards the target. this ensures that a player uses the correct muscles in their shoulder. the clavicle leads; but, it is not physically possible to actively turn the clavicle thru until the club starts to move back round to the ball. in the start of the downswing the club moves away from ball; and, then it starts to move back round to the ball. it is at this point that the hitting area begins and the clavicle turns thru. the left side of the right forearm is key to clavicle rotation thru the shot. when muscles in the left side of the right forearm are fully activated, in the start of the downswing, it loads the muscles around the clavicle.

    How do you start the swing?? Moving left shoulder back, pulling hands away ??

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  Год назад

      My own personal "feels" are not relevant to you, Mike, because they are unique to me. 😎 Beyond that, they do change quite regularly as I'm always thinking about new possibilities for my lesson content - sometimes it's the lead arm, sometimes it's the trail arm, other times it's both arms, and even others it's no arms and just shoulders or chest or hips... 😆 (Although as long as my setup is good and I've pre-established the necessary connections, I can trust that no matter my "trigger du jour", it's going to get me moving properly into the takeaway and backswing.) This is why I do my best to convey multiple feels or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible. We're all different physiologically and psychologically, and something that resonates effectively with one golfer may not necessarily work for another. However, no matter the variety of suggested feels/thoughts offered for a particular element of the swing, they are all directed at getting different golfers to achieve the desired positions, motions, and ball striking results. This is one reason why the comprehensive, sequential learning platform of my online school is so effective, and why thousands of folks across the globe are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result (and I'm happy to let their unsolicited testimonials tell the story: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews ). The lessons and drills provide the guidelines and set the boundaries, while allowing ample leeway for each individual golfer to infuse and exercise their own uniqueness.
