✋🏼I am one of the people who absolutely love Grease 2 more than the first Grease movie. I know all the songs and enjoy them for what they are. I grew up with this movie and always felt it was unfair that it received so much hate.

I'm one of those people too! Grease 2 is infinitely more enjoyable than Grease when you watch it as a tongue in cheek comedy with songs made of nothing but sexual innuendos instead of a romantic high school musical.

It's good to know there are others out there like me. The first one has a reputation that I have never understood. I will not besmirch the name of the late Olivia Newton-John but the, thankfully now finished, attempts at getting stardom for John Travolta began in earnest with that first film.

It's too bad people couldn't look past the first movie. The sequel is SO much fun. Great music score, quirky and endearing characters, good cinematography, great choreography and actors that I'd want to see again and again. And most of the cast seemed to have great chemistry between each other, not just the two leads. Danny and Sandy had good chemistry but Michael and Stephanie's romance was more haunting and beautiful. It was something that sticks with a person.

Critics hated films like Grease 2 and Xanadu but those of us who were kids when those films came out could more easily suspend disbelief and go along for the ride. Here is the fun thing. I did see Grease 2 BEFORE I even knew there was a Grease movie and it became one of my favorite musicals of all time. When I saw Grease a few years later because I knew Olivia was in it who I first saw in Xanadu (yes, I know quite anti chronological and always watching the "flops" ;)) I did like it and enjoyed it mostly because of John and Olivia but it never gave me the feeling Grease 2 gave me. When I saw Grease 2 I did not know that it has been flopped - so that came as a surprise to me. So if you never saw Grease the experience with Grease 2 might be completely different ... it was for me.

I saw Grease 2 before the original Grease. I like it a lot, especially with Michelle Pfieffer, and I thought Max Caulfield was dead gorgeous. However, when I finally saw Grease with Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta, it blew my mind as their songs were already popular on the radio. However, Grease 2 still affects me as Michelle Pfieffer just exploded onto the big screen after many iconic roles, such as the slinky leather-clad Catwoman in Batman Returns.

Stephanie was the complete reverse of Sandy. Instead of starting out the film as sweet and wholesome then changing to leather clad greaser girl, she starts the movie as a greaser, then gradually turns into "good girl"
Also, her voice seems to change. At first she seems to speak in tough pseudo-New York accent. As she gradually turns softer it sounds more like Michelle Pfeiffer's real voice.

Even though I like the original in its own way, I have to say I am one of those people who likes the sequel more. The love story is SO much better and way less toxic. In Grease, Danny is constantly screwing things up with Sandy and acting like a jerk, despite being so desperate to get her back. It gets really tiring to watch. He doesn't respect her boundaries or once stand up to his friends, and constantly humiliates her by having to be cool all the time. Michael, by contrast, doesn't so much as look at another girl besides Stephanie and literally risks life and limb to impress her. He also takes the time to tutor her, and he's not one of those "nice guys" who whines that she won't go out with him. He figures his only chance is to create a cool biker alter ego, and in the end she confesses she had fallen for regular Michael at the same time. It's the healthy love story we needed! Also, hot take; John Travolta cannot sing despite being a great actor and dancer, and Michael's song "Charades" is twenty times better than "Sandy". It's such a shame Caulfield's career suffered so much after playing probably the most chivalrous dreamboat of a character in a musical I've ever seen. 😩💔

This movie is such a pleasure of mine, no guilt whatsoever!😁 Yes, it's basically the exact same concept as the first with the genders reversed, but Stephanie is more upfront and proactive than Sandy was, the songs are catchier, and Michael is more likable than Danny, in that he's kind to Stephanie, and doesn't act like a tool towards her.

While my family (mother, older sisters, myself, and even my father) all loved Grease, Grease 2 was the one we all loved more~ I think, for me, it was the way Stephanie was a replacement for Danny without the more negative aspects of Danny's personality; I liked that she knew what she wanted, and in the end got that and more, which she acknowledged. And I also loved that Michael was sincere, gentle, and intelligent. Hell, I liked that you can see little sparks of independence and wants in most the female characters, by the end^.^
Some of those deleted scenes I hadn't heard about, and I'd really wish the footage would be found and released. I think the scene of Michael going to Stephanie at the end of the talent show wouldn't be too shocking, cause he's supposed to be playing the piano for the talent show, right? My sisters, mother, and I joked about this last time we watched the movie during a game night. If the audience is supposed to think Michael died, who is the audience supposed to think is playing the piano? If the camera panned over to the side of the stage, Michael would be right there, right?~
Paramount apparently has some Grease things in the works... I'm... interested~~~ I'm hoping that if the one series is a sequel that it draws from *both* movies; really hoping it gets the full loving attention like Cobra Kai gave The Karate Kid franchise...

I was almost 12 years old in June 1982. I watched it endlessly for about a month, when it came on Cinemax or some cable channel in the early 80's. I had never seen the first Grease. I LOVED it! And you gave Adrian Zmed shit for his high voice, but this was supposed to be the early 60's. Have you listened to 60's music in this style. Frankie Avalon, Frankie Valli, and a number of others. It was appropriate for the time period (60's, not 80's). AND, I loved the 'Reproduction' song (I was about 12). Also, I think a bit of the problem was the boys had to change and not the girl (you did mention this in passing). Being that I was, and am, a female, I think that part of the story was awesome.

I used to do some ad-hoc work with a video shop. Had a mum storm in screaming at the filth of Grease 2 LOL. She thought I worked there but I did film transfers on the side as needed. Bit of a let down I thought but to each their own I guess.

I'm in the category that likes Grease2 more than Grease. Probably because I saw grease2 1st and when I saw the original it didn't have anywhere near the same feel to it.

In Thailand, Grease 2 was not huge, but well-known. By the time I came back to the US, no one spoke of it. The song A Girl for All Seasons stuck with me so much that I looked it up decades later after my husband said there's no Grease sequel. (He wasn't even aware of the movies' existence.)

I think Grease 2 is the best Grease film. The songs are more catchy and the characters were more likable in my opinion. I believe that it is underrated and judged too harshly.

Nah, it's judged as it should be. It's a pile of dog shit and always will be.

By itself, it's a middle of the road musical, but Grease's shadow was wayyyyy to big for it. To musical lovers like myself, who grew up in the 80's listening to both, it's a super campy twilight zone version of Grease with some good songs and alot of nostalgia.

I was 10 years old when this movie came out. I was a big Grease fan, and saw Grease 2 at the drive-in when it was released. I counted the days til I saw it. It brings back such great memories for me ❤
