  • In this video, we're demonstrating what an initial sensorimotor psychotherapy session looks like, to give you a feel of what it involves and what it's really like. We discuss the topic of Christmas and how for some people it can be a difficult time of year, and Catriona explores how this impacts and shows up in the body, and how you can begin to get a better understanding of what's going on with your body.
We had some technical issue with the sound when filming this - so please accept our apologies on this, and we hope it doesn't detract from the content provided!

It sounds like she loves Christmas and the therapist is trying to let her know that Christmas got those commercial hyper things up that might make people couldn’t feel her love that she is pouring her complete body into; I kinda feel the girls want to celebrate Christmas as a kid but also feel that the experience might feel very culturally framed and stagnant

It sounds like she is denying herself the things she used to do when she was younger because she feels guilty about not doing what is expected of her as an adult. Maybe she can replace one tradition or expectation for something she misses doing and make that a new tradition. Maybe divide the buying of gifts up and get everyone to write down one need and one want, so that you won't have to guess as much or worry if it's the right thing. teach your kids how to make stuff and then make it a day of baking. Have each one prepare a different dough, pie, cake, cookies, etc. and bake them at whatever house that you are having Christmas at. Do it at a different house every year. This is her chance to make new traditions and share or bring the old traditions that she remembers with the new generations. My guess is she is feeling alone and pressured instead of being surrounded by those she loves and is just allowed to enjoy it one day of the year. If Christmas feels commercial then have everyone make gifts for each other. This way you can include everyone (kids).
