    A lot of it is also marketing. According to Ivanko in the old days for a lot of the photo ops they wanted their brand to show, only way to do this was by turning the first plate in. It became tradition, which eventually got written into the rule book.

    I've just been laying the plates on top of the bar. It's a great method and it's amazing how light the bar feels as I complete my lifts. Downside, it can be noisy and I have to reload after each rep. Upside I'm deadlifting 2000 pounds now.

  • @Raoki
    @Raoki 6 лет назад +2

    I enjoyed this video even in it's goofy simplicity. When I first started lifting I had an old high school acquaintance politely tease me by saying "they're heavier when the numbers face out" as he went by. From then on I always loaded them facing in, that same guy is now my personal hype man and best bro.

    Also, always use the lowest number of plates possible is a competition rule. So for 75 kgs you have to load a red plate (25kg) and a collar on each side, but not a blue plate (20kg) and a white plate (5kg) plus collars :)

    One thing that's rlly overlooked is how to take the weights off the racks when you want to load em on the bar...so often u get lazy and esp. if its a lower one can hurt your back. i had a highschool coach who hurt his back bad doing that and every time he saw someone bending over to yank up a plate he would scream and say "thats what your back is saying when u do that"

    At the gym I go to, every plate is loaded with the numbers facing inward. The owner said it is so you have a better grip when loading and unloading the bars. And heaven help you if he sees you loading it any other way.

  • @MeepMeep88
    @MeepMeep88 6 лет назад +3

    I was taught the "correct" way in HS. Front face facing inside. But tbh, I don't think it really matters.
    Do a double blind test and see if people can really tell which side the face is pointing, doubt anyone would be tell.

    • @meganlovesdisneyandcrafts4780
      @meganlovesdisneyandcrafts4780 6 лет назад

      Have yet to make it the racks but looks better.... think oreos.

    • @MeepMeep88
      @MeepMeep88 6 лет назад +2

      Lol if you really want to make it pretty, put just the facing sides towards where there are most people.
      Put the left side facing inside then the right side facing outside. That way everyone on your right side can see exactly which plates are on the left side as well as the right side =D.
      But the people who are on the left side won't be able to tell which plate is which since none of the plates are facing anyone on the left side =D

    • @meganlovesdisneyandcrafts4780
      @meganlovesdisneyandcrafts4780 6 лет назад

      Not looking for pretty or validation, admiration. Just effective and less noise. I appreciate your view though :)

    • @MeepMeep88
      @MeepMeep88 6 лет назад +1

      Ah the noise issue, only way I was able to solve that is to buy Spinlock Olympic Collars like the ones she showed at 1:39
      But they're pretty spendy =/. And low HOLE tolerance of the plates is very important too.

  • @sachae321
    @sachae321 6 лет назад

    Think my gym is built for simplicity - weights and brand marking both sides of the plate!! What I see a lot of is people one handing a plate off the mount and then briefcase carrying it to the bar then slinging / swinging it up to two hands to load it. I think that takes away energy from the lift and definitely puts load into your back before you even start. Is that bad form when the next thing you’re going to lift is like 5 to 10x that weight?

    When you have three plates on each side, is every play after the first one facing out?? Like let's say there was a 25 in between your 45 and the 10 pound what did 25 be facing in like the 45, or out like the 10-pounder at the end?

      No, everything except the very first plate faces the outside. If you had 115 on, the 95 would be in, and the 10 would be out. If you had 275 on, the first 45 would be in, the next 45 and the 25 would both be out, etc.

    • @synchronium24
      @synchronium24 6 лет назад +1

      The heavier weights further toward the edge of the bar should actually make the bar harder to lift.

    • @ryane2552
      @ryane2552 6 лет назад +1

      Heavier plates to the outside make the bar easier to break the floor - more flexion on the bar. Depending on speed you can get more whip through the lift, but that can add instability mid lift

      Alondra Galvan Not Meg, but lifting (and building muscle) is a great way to spur weight loss. The only caveat is there is a tendency for appetite to increase as your physical activity levels increase. Determine how many calories you need daily to maintain weight and adjust accordingly.
