Man I miss the dragon. I really hope when he comes back it won't be something like "here's the video, but sorry, I seriously can't do this anymore, I've decided to become a rice field farmer now, byeee"

i miss all of yall, cant be mad tho I feel like we've all been here before waiting for joe to return. whether he does or doesnt tho legit one of the best communities ive ever been a part of, I would give 1000 marbles just for the regulars streams to return
Don't worry, Joes is waiting for Witcher 4 to release so that after he release the Witcher 3 Video he can instantly stuck working on the Witcher 4 Video for the foreseeable future
Been working on this for the past 3 days to make sure it was released today. Not 100% happy with it, specially with some redundant stuff that could be cut, but it would delay things another day. Enjoy the not-witcher-video.
Having read the entirety of Witcher series in Polish, Joe's analysis of the books feels on point. Around Tower of the Swallow and beyond, it feels like Sapkowski isn't interested in writing Geralt anymore, so Ciri takes over as the main protagonist. In Lady of the Lake this tendency goes even further, and none of the main characters feel very prominent. And then the book starts feeling a bit all over the place, because all the best parts aren't really relevant to the main plot of Geralt/Ciri/Yennefer, but all the plot parts feel rather weak. For instance, the chapter focusing on Dijkstra trying to get Kovir to support the Northern Kingdoms is extremely entertaining. It has awesome character dynamics, fun scenes and very quotable dialogue. It is also completely extraneous to the main plot, and it could have been omitted entirely. It really feels that Sapkowski got sick of his own protagonists and started writing whatever he considered fun at the moment. Or just flat out went into metafiction and made fun of the fanbase with Codwiramurs and NImue, who spend most of their screen time nitpicking the story and speculating about the ending. Yeah, Sapkowski was really odd at the time, and he has only gotten weirder.
This is the closest we’ll get for a while to the actual video huh? (Gotta admit I actually haven’t read/seen anything about the Witcher series, but I hope “Joe” is able to do whatever makes him happy)
BTW I'm polish, i said this in twitch chat when he asked but ill say it again. YES! Geralt also does twirls and hideous smiles in polish versions ALL THE FUCKING TIME LMAO
4:50 I feel like Joe's characterization of soft magic in this discussion is unfair. The terms "hard" and "soft" magic originate explicitly from Brandon Sanderson's laws of magic, the first of which is, "An author's ability to solve conflict with magic is directly proportional to how well the reader understands said magic." This rule is essentially about foreshadowing: if the reader understands how the magic works (hard magic), then when it is used to solve a problem, it can be done in a satisfying way. Joe's criticism of soft magic is basically, "I don't like it because it isn't satisfying when when it's used to solve problems." But that isn't soft magic's fault; that's just bad writing. A resolution not being foreshadowed (which can make is unsatisfying) can be done in any work, in any genre, with or without magic. The point of soft magic isn't to solve problems. It's to give the world a sense of mysticism and wonder, or to CAUSE problems in an interesting way instead of solving them. If Joe had said, "I like hard magic more because I like it when magic is used to solve problems," then that would have been fine. Soft magic done well definitely has it's place.
I'm glad this video exists cause I always felt too dripfed by streams when it came to talking about W3, but I just hope bad willed people won't find it and start arguing with Joe about his points about the game
@@robinlarin69 I mean it's really easy to interpret his arguments because he can't give away examples he uses in the video and if, let's say, tryhard Witcher 3 fans from Reddit find out early on about his thoughts, it might turn ugly
2:54:40 Its kinda sad to hear him say he in envious of this, and i see he is frustrated of the game a lot because certain things aren't incentivized enough. But a lot of these things depends if you go for it in the first place. He mentioned earlier in the video that he didnt need a single healing potion because he just got the gourmet perk... but in my playthroughs I usually purposefully go for an alchemy build, making gourmet redundant, and even bad to waste a slot on. Oils are useful, concoctions are insanely strong. But Joe didnt get to appreciate it because he didnt see an initial push for it. It's a shame. Its partly a developer flaw because they made potions, bombs and oils unecessary if you focus on another build and also a player flaw because you can just decide to not go for that build. Seriously, it is fun to hunt for materials and recipes to upgrade bombs and potions, it is a witcher-like experience, and more tangible than just "get perk, do more damage"
I gotta say, joes understanding of literature and storytelling is extremely simplistic and limited. He only cares about plot and discards themes and meaning as being irrelevant to the story. Dismissing the ending of Disco Elysium as being “some guy who lives on an island” entirely misses the point of the ending and what the game is actually about (the fall of the soviet union, and the sense of yearning and dissolution that follows, ala the disco and elysium metaphor)
To be fair I think he grew on the ending of Disco and liked it later. What we watch on the streams is usually his first impressions, and he himself says he needs to play a game/read a book/etc at least 2 or 3 times to really appreciate it
I think this happens when you're known as a critic and so your audience expects you to have strong opinions about things on the spot. The ending of DE is meant to make the player feel like it was all hollow and to make them mull on that. Which doesn't work out well if you have a thousand people watching you, expecting you to voice your opinion the moment the game ends.
@@CecilyRenns thats fair, and to give credit to Joe he also changed his mind on the ending of outer wilds and appreciated it as a reflection of that games themes. That being said, I feel like a gut reaction of “the story is bad” to a deliberate lack of narrative closure reflects a sort of immaturity in terms of interpreting stories (also this all comes from a place of love for joes vids, hes a really funny dude who is genuinely great at picking apart gameplay and stories, his vids on botw and elden ring are some of the best on yt)

Honestly at this point feels more like "if" than "when". Which is a bummer, was excited for the announced stream games.

the funny thing is a good chunk of people including me doesn't even care about the witcher 3 video and won't watch it when it actually comes out lmao
damn bro got the receipts of joe leaking 10% of the video
I honestly can't imagine a world after Joe releases the Witcher 3 video. Like I fully expect life to go into credits as soon as it releases

Due to the upcoming REDkit, The Witcher 3 video has been delayed indefinitely so Joe can take into account the upcoming gay sex with Dandelion mod

My man doesn't want to delay video by 1 day. You're like a distilled opposite of Joe's personality
Thank you Mr. NODJA for your work during the Joe drought
Thank you for doing this video
This is a legendary compilation! Hats off to ya
Do you and avarisi have transcripts of all the streams or something? How do y'all even
chatter: says literally anything
joe: i actually talk about that in the witcher 3 video
The first clip is hilarious because he could just actually do it with the same child now
This is our Avengers Endgame
More like the Infinity war, the setup for the actual endgame - the video itself
I always wondered if anyone would make a video of this each time Joe would mention the W3 video.
Thank you for making this

The funniest part is that he doesn't say it in the video, because the video doesn't exist :^)
holy shit this is brillant and yet I am so sad now
Was the bit about Disco Elysium's ending ironic? I almost couldn't believe that you characterized it like that
Wait, why is he for real reloading to try to open (actually impossible) door in Disco Elysium at 10:33?
Thank you very much!!!!
