To be fair, there are different ways to do it and levels of cringe. I personally do not like The Office, but I loved Parks & Rec., which is really just because the latter was better at establishing the characters well enough within the first few episodes that I could enjoy anything about them, but they probably didn't go as cringey as The Office did.
This sketch is also different, as it is a relatable situation and we don't really need the characters to be established
Jan Christoffersen The Office had issues establishing their characters because they were copying the tone and dry humor from the UK version.
It wasn't until season 2 where they found their own identity and distanced themselves from UK The Office. And it really shows with how Michael develops as a character, not to mention Jim.
Vanessa and Kyle, both are masters of awkwardness. Couldn’t b more perfect lol🤣

I lived in that building, Ivy Tower, for two years! It's a real building right in Midtown on W 43rd St. They actually used it too--can confirm that the hallway and laundry room are all within the north tower of the building (though I was on the second floor, and these guys were on the sixth). Love how truly NYC this sketch is!
